I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Look in your business cards log in under statements and documents…then notices and letters you should see something there
Thank you! They were both there. Both letters said the same thing:

We based our decision on the following reason(s)

• Too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us
• Insufficient business revenue

Now what? I believe we put $5,000 annual revenue, but is the business revenue more likely because we have too many business cards already?

So closing cards should not hurt you especially if they are business cards that don't report to your personal credit report.

There are really two main things to think about when closing cards - 1) impact on credit utilization and 2) how old the accounts are.

Low credit utilization is a key marker for your credit score. Lenders like to see that you are not maxing out your credit which may be a risk factor for them. So if you have $50,000 in total CLs across your cards and your monthly statements total $5,000 then you have 10% utilization. If you close a bunch of cards (or lower CLs) and your total CLs are now $20,000 - then that same $5k end of month balance now represents 25% utilization. Still not terrible, but would drop your credit score by a few points.

Average age of accounts is another key metric so, for example, if your oldest card is 20 years old and all your other cards are less than 5 years then you probably don't want to close the oldest card. It becomes less important once you have an average age of accounts over 8 - 10 years.

As far as DH being authorized user on some of your older cards - those probably aren't hurting him unless any of those accounts have had delinquencies in the past.
Thank you! This all makes sense, especially about closing businesses cards that don’t appear on our credit report any way, which I reviewed and can see they’re not showing. One question I have. I have a capital one with a $4000 credit limit. It has a $79 fee. We never use it. Well, I maybe use it once a year. It’s more than 18 years old and is by far my oldest card. DH is an authorized user. I do understand the closing this account would hurt my credit, but it really stinks that I’m paying a fee and I’m not benefiting from it. I’m in a similar situation with my Marriott, but I do at least get one free night a year at a Marriott, which, in my opinion takes care of the fee. Anyway, if I requested to lower the balance on the Chase or even PC it to a card without a fee, would this have the same negative effect that closing it would have on my credit?

In terms of credit utilization, I frequently pay our balances before the statement even comes out, so I’m not super concerned about reducing the limits. Just want to confirm that if the statement shows as zero, or only a small amount, this will not hurt our utilization?

For those of you that have been, what were your favorite things to do in London? Or favorite places to go?

We have a big list of things we’re interested in but I wanted to make sure I’m not missing anything unique or cool.

As others have said definitely close the Chase business cards you aren’t using since the first reason is probably due to the open accounts with us. The second could be that they feel you have enough CL on your open business cards to cover the revenue listed

My favorite place is probably the Tower of London. Although it's sort of a disturbing place to visit! We're doing British Museum, National Gallery, Westminster Tour, and Churchill War Rooms (plus a musical) in August. All the standard tourist stuff. Last time we were there (for one full day) the city was shut down for some bike event (shoot me). We ended up very limited in what we could see so we did Kensington Palace and Harrods. Also walked by Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey. I'm one of those people who is pretty much happy walking around London aimlessly:)

We’re planning to do the Tower of London on our first day! I’m pretty excited to see it. Ds wants to walk across the top of the Tower Bridge too.

Did you like Kensington Palace? We have it on our list along with the gardens and the Diana Memorial Playground.

I found a tour geared towards kids that drives around the main sites. I think we might do it so we can at least see everything.

DD was 6 when we went. We liked Hampton Court Palace, there's a nice playground there. Shrek near the London Eye was good. Tower of London was fascinating, we did the Yeoman Warder tour. Also check out the limited time events when you are there. It was about the last days of Anne Boleyn when we were there, really well done and brought history alive.

I did a family membership to Historic Royal Palaces. It was a good deal just going to Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace.

I'm reading the Six Wives of Henry VIII right now (in preparation to see Six). Poor Anne Boleyn!

I bet you all will love the Tower of London! And yes, Kensington Palace was interesting. Probably not a place I'd go back to, but it was wroth seeing.

If you can spare the time, get out to Windsor Castle. We also did a tour of Buckingham Palace, but that is something you can only do in the summer.

I was wondering about Shrek. We have it as an option but weren’t sure if it’s good or just touristy. Maybe we’ll try it. Ds does like Shrek.

Hampton Court Palace looks cool! Might be a little far for us because we only have about 4 days there and aren’t sure how far outside the city we want to go.

Can you product change that Capital One card to a no-fee card so that you keep the history? Not familiar with CapOne and product changes but might be worth asking the question.

And yes - if your statement balances are low or zero, then that is all good for utilization calculation.

Is he a Harry Potter fan? I loved the Studio tour.
churchill's war rooms
My son said his 2 favorite things in London were the Churchill Tour, including Churchill war rooms, and a Premier League football (soccer) game. He was 13 at the time and a history lover. I'm not sure how much patience a 6 year will have for Churchhill unless he's a big history buff.

churchill's war rooms

Having just done them, it's not for a 6 yo. It's super interesting but even for adults you have to be interested in history. It has an audio guide that I used a little but skipped most (not a fan of them, I'd rather read signs of what I'm interested in.)

The imperial war museum was interesting too but I wouldn't call it kid friendly either, though there were some kids there.

@Haley R if you end up at Piccadilly circus go in the Lego store, they have some cool builds. I do hope they use ac in the summer though, a lot of places were awful and it wasn't even that warm out.

There's scaffolding up at Kensington at the front so there really wasn't anything to see. No idea how long it's there, hadn't looked to see what was happening.

We have the studio tour booked! He’s only seen the first three movies but he likes them a lot.

I don’t think we’d do the Churchill war rooms. He’s only 5 and not at all interested in history. I’m gonna be honest, I wouldn’t enjoy it either 😆

Yeah he just turned 5 and I think he would have absolutely no interest in it. I’m not sure I would even be interested honestly.

Our hotel for sure has AC but I’m worried about some of the places we plan to visit. We had that problem in Germany. It was freakishly hot and some of the museums were so hot inside. Hopefully it won’t be too hot. We’re going in July.

I’ll have to look into the scaffolding. Thanks for mentioning it

ETA: It says mid-June for the scaffolding to be down

My hotels had ac, didn't mean it cooler down enough for me to sleep well.

It was low to mid 70s when I was there and there for sure wasn't ac everywhere. The bus was bad, I didn't use the tube much but my friend said it can be bad in summer. Thankfully the theatre I saw a show in had ac, they don't all have it.

It was problematic in France too. Both were probably comparable to Japan in that you didn't cool off as much inside as you would in the states relative to the heat outside.

As long as I get some kind of break from the heat and humidity of Florida I’ll be good lol
