I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Well after years of Amex giving me the middle finger I finally had a biz gold offer pop up in my account. Not great 125k MR for $15k spend. I tried a few higher offers first for the biz gold and biz platinum but got the pop up. Went with the 125k offer and was approved. Hopefully this will help Amex realize that it's not so bad letting me have a welcome bonus every now and then.

Hey All! LONG time since I've posted on this thread, but I've been lurking over the years. Lot of life changes have happened and I'm on the upside of it all finally and looking to do some travel. I see lots of new names, but see so many familiar names still!

Just got married and now looking for a nice cruise, we want to go up the Alaska coast. Thinking Princess at this time as they have some nice 10 day itineraries that work for us. If anyone wants to message me with some advice I would really appreciate it, don't want to tie up this thread but so many questions like is Princess Premier worth it??

Anyway, the question for this thread, I have the CSP and around 800k points, I hear changes coming to the CSR and with the CSP 100k ending before my 4yr mark I am thinking up PCing to CSR to book the cruise with Chase. I originally wanted to PC to the CSR, book, PC to a non Sapphire card and grab the 100k in Aug but that sounds gone. :confused3 Now I want to PC to CSR, book and grab the two $250 credits and go back to the CSP next year when the higher fee posts... I will admit that I have not read much of the past thread here, but is this still doable?

Welcome back and Congrats to you and your wife on your recent marriage!

I'm no help with cruises but I'm sure a few here have some info.

I have booked a few cruises with Chase CSR. Has save me a lot of $$ doing this. You can upgrade to the CSR and pay the annual fee (for some reason they don't usually charge the fee for a few months). Then the following year you can downgrade back to the CSP. Once you upgrade - the benefits take effect immediately. You should be able to get the $300 Travel Fee twice within the timeframe. Unless they make changes to the card - which is being talked about...

My first princess cruise is in September so I don’t have first hand experience. I also pretty much only drink water but I’m taking my mom who likes her Chardonnay so I’m going with princess plus (Reserve Collection mini suite). But now I’m second guessing not going with premier because I’ve already booked one specialty meal. So the difference is down to $290 for 7-nights. Princess is so weird compared with Disney. The prices move all over the place (with dcl they pretty much only go up) so you have to watch them and rebook or request a credit. I rebooked once and saved $400.

It's not just here, it happens in the US just as much. And if they aren't going to allow the ac to get cold enough they really need to have more than just a duvet. Most people don't need that heavy of a blanket if you can't get the room below 68. I'm of an age and I like to sleep not roast 🙂
When we were in Germany it was freakishly hot and the duvets were too warm. Luckily the a/c went down to 65 at 2/3 of our hotels. The other one it was toasty at night

In Paris now at the HR Etoile and am 1 for 3 when it comes to flat sheets, wash cloths and bath tubs. I didn't expect The Westminster (hilton curio) to have a tub, kinda thought the Etoile would but no. Neither had flat sheets or wash cloths, only the WA Versailles had them and a nice tub. Still annoyed about the flat sheet but get it, but why also take our wash cloths?

I liked Westminster being by myself. I got upgraded from a standard to whatever the next category up is. I wouldn't want to share the room with a friend, it was smal but not unexpected. It's furnished well so it's workable. Breakfast was ok, scrambled eggs were way too salty. Had dinner in the restaurant one night, great mac & cheese. Got a few bottles of coke and a snack at the attached "starbucks". All to use my quarterly Surpass credit.

At WA I got an upgrade and the room was great. Had a balcony and it was nice enough the 1st day to open the doors. It was so peaceful here and even being on the 1st floor, until the 2nd night. There was a party downstairs and it sounded like we were all in the club. It was all old club music too because I could hear the lyrics, sweet dreams aren't made of these 😂 I called down a little before 11 when I realized it wasn't stopping. I wasn't the only one complaining, no idea how but it seemed they weren't aware it was going to happen and there was no manager on duty to deal with them. I don't know, I felt bad for the guy having to deal with it.

They moved me up to the 4th floor and at least one other room with a kid. Was glad I'd showered and everything as the 2nd bathroom left a lot to be desired with the shower in the tub and no curtain. They did apologize and offered to refund the nights points which is more points than I expected. I didn't want to ask but I didn't need to. Already have an email saying it's processed.

Breakfast was great, croissants were so good. Room service was ok. Had dinner both nights to use the Aspire credit since it's on thr resort list.

So I'm watching the app for that and to see if the points for the Westminster ever come out of my account. Back when I booked they took them and then a bit later put them back. It's currently sitting at 0 and I checked out on Wed so maybe it's still too soon.
That was one thing I noticed about Paris- and France in general. I stayed in 4 different hotels and none of them had wash cloths!

You'll have to both pay for it for the entire duration of the cruise. Look carefully at which of the benefits you would use and figure out if you would be spending that much anyway. In our case, between the Wifi and the coffees, drinks and the ability to order food from anywhere on the ship and have it delivered to us, it was worth it. My husband would also eat in the steakhouse a couple times. I think I'd take a Yoga class or two. It comes with some other things that we probably wouldn't use, such as unlimited premium desserts. If you buy coffees, juice or any drinks, you'll pay the tips on those. With Premier, you don't pay for the drinks and don't get charged any tips.

I think you'll need to look at the individual accounts since the foreign transaction fee and out of network ATM fee varies by account type. Some banks have partnerships with other banks that might give you waived ATM fee. Maybe also consider taking cash in $100 bills to exchange. Before I got my Schwab, I did that in Japan and the exchange rate is not that bad (even in the airport). Other countries it might be hard to get a decent exchange rate though.

Can they ship your new card to your destination?
I'll bring a few $100 bills- that's a good idea. I have some currency already and was planning to get more as needed.

I completely forgot that I have a WISE debit card. That's probably my best option for atms. There are limits and fees, but they seem pretty minimal. Thanks for the advice.

I am about to transfer Chase URs to Hyatt to make a reservation. The hotel has a $29/night parking fee (it's in a downtown area so I guess I shouldn't be surprised).

It's a Hyatt Place so nothing fancy... what other OOP costs should I expect when booking on points?

Can't think of anything else. HP includes breakfast buffet.

Exactly. I was in Switzerland with no AC and couldn’t open the window due to street noise. Too hot with the duvet. I can’t sleep without some type of cover on me. Contemplated taking off the cover and using it as a sheet :P. Decided I wasn’t coordinated enough!

yep
Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska are combining in August, I want to say. so that point program probably won't exist. I doubt the amex transfer to Alaska happens because of the BOA relationship.
ok thanks....

Amex Hilton Credit DP: I had called Hawaiian airlines the other day for something and the agent said blah blah blah bonus points I can transfer you and I said sure and he transferred me to Hilton. I quickly realized it was about the timeshare presentation. The guy was super super nice and I ended up giving in even though I have no intention of buying the Hilton timeshare and I likely won’t even use the discounted stay, I was just like charity you made a sale because you’re super nice and I felt he deserved it (yes, weird I know). Also deep down I was thinking I’m gonna use my platinum and then maybe I will get that $50 credit . The charge was $149 plus tax. Just got notified that I got the $50 credit for the quarterly Hilton statement bonus!

So if you’re interested in the offers they send you in the mail for Hilton discounted stay for timeshare presentation and you don’t care about attending that presentation and think it’s worth it you can get the $50 credit. Also, since I wasnt thinking I would move forward and actually go I did the cheapest option $149, there are more expensive options $199, $699, $899 depending on what location you choose. Like Hawaii is $899. He said I can upgrade to those later if I decide, so if I do that I can snag that $50 credit again as long as Amex is still offering it.
I get those offers in email almost daily....and I would actually do it except they all say I need my spouse with me to do it, and I can't do that. Bleh- some great deals for a couple hours of my time!

So I actually did my solo trip to DC last week! 3 nights,4 days- I really enjoyed it! Booked a hotel nearish the National Mall on points (Hyatt natl mall) and had a blast sightseeing on my own schedule- it was a short flight on AA from my home airport, easy to navigate and get the metro,I did notice I needed something small and valueless to hold my table at a restaurant if I needed to get up etc, but otherwise it was so relaxing. One main difference for me was the idea that going back to my hotel room in evening meant quiet relaxation, which is different (for me) in that when I travel with friends or family, it's like a hangout, more stuff to do vibe, instead I just enjoyed movie or good tv shows.... I won't hesitate to try solo again after this!

**EDIT**

It did just occur to me that the 100K bonus is no longer in effect... hmmm

I'm so shocked! I just got an email that my CSP was approved after all!
Yay happy day because I just met the spend on the Amex Gold!
You should still get the 100k offer. They should apply the offer you applied under not the offer when you were approved. Do you see the card in your account? You can look for the bonus tracker.

I looked yesterday and did not see the tracker, but it is there this morning and it does show 100K! Thank you for the reassurance!

Once you do a solo trip, it is hard to travel with other people again! Glad you enjoyed it. I just back from 2 weeks in Italy and Switzerland solo and loved it. For the table, I think the universal sign you'll be back is the napkin on the chair; not the table. Sometimes I'll let the staff know I am just using the facilities and will be right back.

On my trip, the TV only had 2 English channels - CNN and BBC News so I did a lot of reading in my down time and the long distance trains. I got through 7 books, both e-books and audio books.

Now you can plan your next solo trip!

Is there a VPN anyone here recommends? On our trip to Canada my younger daughter couldn’t access some shows due to geoblocking. So I want something set up for when we go to Japan so she can still get to all her shows.

I had Proton VPN on my iPad but it wouldn’t let me pick the country so even though US was closest, it didn’t always pick it. Then it made you wait before you could try for another location.
