I have a number of Samsung apps appliances and no problems with any of them including the fridge. Ours has an ice maker but it’s not hooked up, we are just not ice people. Lol. LG is off limits for us, my dead would roll over in his grave and likely haunt us for buying LG.
While we haven't had issues with our LG fridge, we've had issues with our LG range and drier. All were recommended on CR. I feel like there aren't really any "great" appliances these days, not really built to last or parts are so complex that a repair costs almost the same as a new appliance...

We have a GE french door. I am fine with it. I really don't like a bottom freezer, but the top fridge portion is HUGE. It is 8 years old. We had to replace the fan earlier this year. My big annoyance is the ice maker. We have to take the ice bin out and shake it hard, a few times a week, to get the ice to dispense, as it clumps up or something. Other than that, it's fine.

There was a GE here when I moved in back in 1989, lol. It was 10 years old and the ice maker was dead. Those days a new ice maker was about a hundred bucks and was easy to install. I did it myself. It lasted until the fridge died. That was sometime in the 90ties. Meanwhile I had a second fridge in good condition that had come to the house with me (not sure what brand). It lasted until 2005, but the ice maker died after a few years. Whirlpool - 2005- 2020 - ice makers dead after a few years.

My experience tells me ice makers don't last. Doesn't seem to matter what brand.

I read the reviews about bad ice makers in the Samsungs but didn't worry about it too much. I had one experience where the motor was trying but no ice coming out. Figured it was done for. Pulled up a you tube video on how to open it - I hadn't really looked before that. The ice was jammed up and not coming into the pan. The outlet for the pan was also jammed when I got the ice to let go. Got it unstuck and it's doing well.

I do think that if I'd continued to just make the motor run it would not have been good for it.

Good luck with whatever you buy!

Our icemaker works, and has never stopped working, just for some reason the ice clumps and I have to shake it up.
Our old house had a 20 year old Kenmore, and the thing worked great. The icemaker did stop working after about 16 years, but yes, super easy affordable fix.

Kenmore! That was the brand I couldn't remember when I wrote 'second fridge in good condition'. Lol, as I get older I lose names.

I was going to agree with the LG fans on here. Did you go with ice and water in the door? I thought that was a must have but I ended up getting a model with water inside and ice in the freezer and I really like it.
We ended up doing ice and water both in the door and just a single ice maker. I’m hoping we don’t regret that decision. There was one that was a dual ice maker but the ice made in the freezer was “craft ice” and apparently only makes 3 cubes a day which is stupid to me lol. Dh wanted a dual ice maker but we didn’t see any LG ones we liked

The ice maker is the problem in our fridge. It constantly freezes over and the fan stops working. We’ve had to defrost it too many times to count. Today it said our fridge was 36 degrees and it absolutely was not. Things had spoiled. We opened the freezer and all of our popsicles were melted. It’s been one thing after another with this fridge. We have friends in the neighborhood with a Samsung and they hate theirs too.
I originally bought a Samsung range because it had the best features and I loved that thing. Too bad that was sold with my last house. I looked at other Samsung products because the range was so great. The fridge that came with current house was tiny and after 2 weeks I was ordering a new fridge and Samsung had the best combo of price and my desired features. Since we don't use the ice maker I have no experience with that. Also ended up with a Samsung dishwasher because it again was the best priced with the right features. I have no real loyalty to Samsung it just worked out that way.

I agree. None of the brands last like they used to. My parents have a fridge and stove in their basement. Fridge was from the 1960s and worked until 10 years ago when it was unplugged. Might still work if it was plugged in. Gas stove was from the 1970s and still works AFAIK but the gas to it is turned off. Used to love Kenmore but they don't make any of their own products anymore.

I was always scared to get water in the door when my kid was little. I figured either the kid or the dog would end up getting water all over the floor on a daily basis. 😂

So far the water in the door hasn’t been a problem for us but that’s because ds never tries to get it himself. He always asks us to do it for him lol. Our friends with a son the same age can’t say the same 🤣 Pretty sure they have ice and water being dispensed all day long. Sometimes it makes it in a cup and sometimes it doesn’t

I love the old kenmore stuff..... I have a kenmore fridge with basic bottom freezer and icemaker (in freezer) -we bought it in (maybe) 2019 ish? still works well, icemaker is great- I did replace the little motorized fan that connects the freezer to fridge at one point (cheap and easy) the only bad thing I have to say is the produce drawers broke off their tracks pretty fast, I've just been using them as-is since and it doesn't seem to make a difference.... I love the bottom freezer

I had a Kenmore fridge....made by LG! It was a good one!

The fridges I've had you could activate a lock.

we are just not ice people
I do not understand this statement

In all seriousness though... I grew up with Amana bottom freezers and loved them. When mine finally died, we had a panicked visit to Best Buy and ended up with a GE French Door/bottom freezer.

I actually paid for a second ice maker in the freezer (in addition to the one in the door) because we are DEFINITELY ice people! Having said that, we have had to have the door ice maker repaired (shocking) and I really hate the French Doors... if i want something that's on the left side of the fridge I have to open both doors. Such a pain. And I don't even like having to pull the freezer door open... I'd rather it be on hinges and swing open. But I am pretty set in my ways and I don't like change... so I just silently seethe until someone here asks about fridges!

I outfitted my entire kitchen with all new KitchenAid appliances two years ago. Fingerprintless and blue in the inside of the oven really sold me. The under-microwave light has stopped working entirely and it's been too long that it's not in warranty. I'll have to buy a new microwave to solve that problem, and I hate the fridge because even though it's a side by side (french door) type it's really too small inside for us. That's our own fault though -- that's the one that we chose. Thankfully we have a garage fridge side by side (french door) type that we use for backup. I would say get a LARGER fridge with more room inside it than you anticipate needing because if we had gotten the fridge with more room inside I would not be having this conversation.

I really do recommend the KitchenAid brand (despite the microwave failure). I've had them in my past three homes.

EDITED TO ADD: Our Maytag washer JUST went out in our beach house a couple of months ago. That was the original washer from 1978! I told my husband last year that I wanted to move the beach house washer to our house because I hate our new washer (I'm petite and I've got to REALLY bend over and stand on my tip toes to get the small stuff out of the bottom of the drum). Glad we didn't switch washers, but man, that washer is almost as old as me and lasted longer than anyone would've ever thought!!
I need some fridge recommendations please

I agree with getting a larger fridge. I gave away my small freezer just recently because it had been unplugged for a couple of years and we didn't need it, because large costco pizza and other boxes fit in the fridge I bought. Both sides of the top french doors open independently. (I had to get up to go check this.)

MIL had kitchenaid appliances and they lasted forever. I've always considered that a reliable brand but it was pricier than my wallet.

Wow on the Maytag washer. Mine lasted 33 or 34 years - and my Mom's lasted longer but don't remember exactly how many years.
Replaced with Speed Queen. So far so good.

Again, crossing fingers not to jinx us <g>.

And I don't get ice people 🙂 when I order pop, unless there's free refills at a sit down, I'm asking for it without ice. I don't want watery drinks unless it's scotch/whisky on the rocks. I drink water room temp unless it's after a run or I'm out and cold is what you get.

We've never had a water or ice dispenser and we don't even make ice the old school way. I only have ice cube trays to make pup ice cream.

We bought a counter top water filtration thing a few months ago because our tap water is gross and it's great. The water tastes great but also my humidifier is so much easier to clean which tells me how useless the brita pitcher was.

Living in Florida, having ice is essential lol. Ds and I play outside a ton and when we come in we always get ice water. He likes to eat ice chips too. Dh and I use ice for our pop because sometimes we haven’t had time to put a new case in the fridge

When we bought our new camper this year, one of the considerations was the size of the freezer to make sure it could fit food and a whole bag of ice LOL!! Since we actually have a real fridge now, I get giddy when I go in the camper and pull ice out of the freezer. I am a mega ice person. I drink iced tea all day, can't do that without ice.

Edited to add, oddly, I do not put ice in my water.
