Hello! I haven't posted in awhile since bringing back our Air Force DD and family on a chartered flight (Atlas Air) from Germany to BWI. Hubby and I got to fly with her as standby (he's retired military) so our only cost was $37 pp. We used SWA points with a CP for me and hubby to continue on to Houston. DD and family's tickets will be reimbursed by the military. She is now in San Antonio until February, then on to Travis AFB in northern California for the next 3-4 years.
I am currently 2/24, with another card dropping off in Jan 24. So looking for a new card.
I just renewed my SW priority and am planning to get a SW biz card in the newt few months (hoping for a better sub).
I also have the Venture X and CSP. And a United Gateway. Last card was an INK in Jan.
I am considering the Chase Freedom Unlimited to take advantage of the 5% cash back for gas and groceries in the first 12 months. I currently hold a CF with the quarterly 5% bonuses. Am I allowed to have both at the same time? If so, I'm a P1 so if someone has a support link, let me know.
Also, when looking at total credit, are they just looking at Chase personal cards or all cards including biz cards?
And if I want to reduce credit on personal cards, can I do this with a SM or do I need to call?
Lastly, can I close a biz card thru SM or do I need to call?
Sorry for all the questions! Hope one of the experts on here can help me out! I feel like I have been out of the loop and caught up from page 500 this weekend! Still have 20 pages to go! Loved seeing everyone's trip reports too! And reading about trip planning. My goals for travel for the next year or 2 are in the US. A DCL cruise in April 2024 out of Port Canaveral, and regular trips to Sacramento (closest airport to Travis). I figure the 5% on the CFU at grocery stores plus the 4X fuel points from buying Disney gift cards at Kroger will offer a nice savings! Always open to other suggestions for saving money with DCL. I always book thru Costco for the 7% back Costco gift card after the cruise so there's that too!

I don't consider myself an expert, but I can answer some of your questions. :) Yes, you can have multiple Freedom cards. Chase looks at total credit they've allocated (both personal and biz). Yes, you can close by SM. Just be clear about which card. I usually mention the last four digits. I "think" I've reduced a credit line by SM, but I may be remembering wrong. As for support, all of the links are on our reddit page for you to choose from. You may need to figure out the timing if you're planning on going for another card before the SW biz card.

You can reduce credit lines via SM.

I would recommend going for another Ink. You can't beat the huge sign up bonus. You can have more than one Ink. Save the SW biz card then for 3 months from now and hopefully there will be a nice bonus then.

You can close a card by SM…if you want to PC a card you need to call….
Chase looks at total credit across both Chase business and personal cards…you can reduce via SM
Recommend pacing is 3 months between applications for all Chase cards, not sure when you got the SW priority and when you were planning on applying for a SW business card….the business SUB have remained pretty constant at the 80k URs

I got the SW visa in Nov 2021 and earned CP in 2022. Since the CP is expiring next month, my goal is to earn it thru the biz card and support for the SW elevated offer. I think the offer goes thru Dec 11, so my plan is to get some support then, and hopefully those support points will post in 2024. I've only applied for 1 card this year and that wan an INK in Jan. So if I get the CFU now, I'll apply for the SW biz in Jan or Feb of 2024. Do you know if a personal SW card holder send a support for a biz card if they don't have a biz card? Hope that makes sense.

I got emails for 3 of our Chase cards (IHG Premier, IHG Club, and Amazon Visa) for the following offer:

Receive a $15 statement credit when you spend $100 or more in select categories between 11/14/23 and 1/15/24 with your card.
The categories listed are Fitness Clubs/Gym Memberships, Utilities, Transit, Insurance, & Phone/Cable/Internet.

Since I'm not currently working on an MSR at the moment, this will come in handy for my electric bill. Should be able to use all 3 offers if I pay my January bill a little early... so a nice little 15% savings. Thought I'd share!

We're looking at a cruise on NCL for next fall - unfortunately I don't have an NCL offer on any of my AmEx cards.

I got quotes through cruise compete and one of them mentions a $300 OBC if booked with AmEx card. I remember reading somewhere about benefits with certain travel agents if you book with AmEx. Is there anything else I need to do through this travel agent to get the AmEx benefits other than booking with our AmEx?

I'm probably going to cancel our Platinum cards unless we get really good retention offers. Would it matter if I don't still have the AmEx card open when we actually cruise next fall?

The deposit needs to be paid with the Platinum. The rest of the balance should be paid with an Amex, though I've paid a small portion with a CSR before and nothing happened.

You should also get dinner for 2 at Le Bistro.

good to know, thanks
I put the deposit down for our ama cruise and was thinking I had to keep platinum open. I'd rather use my hilton amex t get to my fnc spend!

Just back from a long weekend at Universal Orlando, using a variety of points and credits.

We paid 105k URs for Universal tickets. The Express Passes (included with our Portofino Bay stay) were really nice to have. We've only been to Universal once 15 years ago and this set of kids have never been. The impetus for going was that both our kids have read the Harry Potter books and my youngest is a potterhead and asked to go here, rather than Disney, about a year ago. Turns out Universal just really isn't for us. We loved the World of Harry Potter (both lands) and thought they were so well done and incredibly immersive. The rest of Universal just wasn't for us. We would have been good with a one day, perhaps 2 day pass at most. We don't really do real true roller coasters. Just had no emotional connection to Universal, like we have with Disney.

We stayed 3 nights at Universal's Portofino Bay booked through FHR and had (3) $200 credits, which brought our per nt cost down to about $400 per nt. This included Unlimited Express Passes for all four of us, early check-in, guaranteed 4pm checkout, $100 resort credit (I think x2 due to separate ressies, but not sure) and $68 in breakfast credits per day. We really liked that we could use our credit in the restaurant, Starbucks or in-room dining. We were frequently able to feed all four of us for breakfast with the credit and often never felt hungry until late afternoon.

We received an "upgrade" to a bay view which didn't matter so much, but the location was superb, just off the entrance to the water taxi. Transportation to Universal via walkway or water taxi was excellent, with no stops for other hotels. I found their boats much nicer/newer than Disney's and thought they did an excellent job with transportation. We spent a lot of time at the hotel, enjoying the warm weather and the outdoor piazzas, and Sal's deli. We ate all our meals at the hotel, had a couple alcoholic drinks per day and our bill for 4 days, after all the credits was under $200. Felt like a steal.

Paid 20k RR pts/per adult/RT for SW + 2 companions. Used our monthly $30 Uber credit plus (2) Amex Uber offers, putting our Uber cost at about $35 RT from Loews to MCO.

We tried ButterBeer, chocolate frogs, participated in the wand choosing ceremony, made it rain using interactive spells, did communal table dining at the Leaky Cauldron and rode Hagrid's Motorbike twice and I got called "Madam" by the goblin at the money exchange. We definitely enjoyed our time in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Glad you enjoyed the Wizarding World! At least your son got to enjoy that, and you weren't out much money at all while giving Universal a chance. We are part of the small crowd that loves Disney and Universal equally. However, we love coasters, so that makes a big difference. We also have become fans of the Halloween Horror Nights over the last 2 years, so we go during that.

People have asked about a good first card for college students, so I will share my nephew's experience this week. He turned 18 2 weeks ago and decided on a whim to stop by Chase and apply for a credit card (his checking acct is with Chase). He is technically still in HS, but attends a local Univ full time through a dual credit program. He knows my churning activities allow us to travel a lot, so he wanted to establish his credit and start earning pts. After I "fussed at him" (not really) because he didn't consult me first, he explained that the guy had him apply for a Freedom Rise card. The guy told him he would probably be denied because he doesn't have a credit score yet (he's currently got a score of 4 lol). So I added him as an AU on my Freedom Unlimited. Then he got the notice that he was approved for the Rise with a $500 limit. I looked it up and it's actually a decent first card. He got a $25 credit on his account, and it earns 1.5 UR on all purchases. The info page for the card says having a Chase checking acct with a balance of at least $250 helps with approval, and he did have that. I hadn't heard of the Rise, so hope this info is helpful to others with young adults in their family.

ETA: he also works part-time, so that may have helped him get the approval.

You’ll definitely be fine applying for a CFU now….Yes, your P2s SW card can support any SW card business or personal…just don’t use a self support link those don’t work anymore

Thank you for mentioning this! I am in the process of looking for a card for my oldest DD. She's in her first year of college, has been an auth user on our amex cards for several years and has had a PT job of varying degrees for several years. I was considering adding her as an auth user on my freedom unlimited just so she could have a visa for the times that she is places that don't take amex. How long was your nephew an auth on your chase card before he applied? I'd like for her to have a card of her own, so that she can start building her own credit and in looking at this card it seems like its a good starter card.

Hi what was the subject title in the email? thx * I got a whopping $5 back from Flex with offer .
I still took it though. lol

Looking at doing a Disney cruise. Besides using the payment(s) to hit MSR on a card, are there any other tips and tricks I should know about maximizing the payment and/or making it as cheap/free as possible? LOL

Use Costco as a TA if you are a member. And I pay with Disney gift cards which I get at a discount.

We're not Costco members, but use a TA to get some OBC. And, yes, you can save some real money by stockpiling DGC and using them to pay the balance.
