Glad you had a great trip! I love parks! I'm curious how dificult the hiking is? DH and I walk quite a bit, but we aren't what I would consider "hikers", so I'm curious if this would be too difficult for us?
Sorry to jump in.. I'm not very fit but was able to do most of the hikes that interested us at the Utah parks and I didn't feel like we missed out AT ALL. The NPS has wonderful informational brochures for each park with comprehensive information on the hikes and their level of difficulty. As a family, we did Easy, Moderate, and a few Challenging - some made us work hard and I considered quitting but was able to complete and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. The hardest part is - Surprise! - the elevation changes, something so obvious and expected for most hikers, but something we just don't experience in Florida. My 10-year old did the hikes as well but my 3 oldest, fit, young sons did more of the challenging ones some of which really pushed them out of their comfort zone. The most important piece of advice is to go very early and later in the afternoon. Midday hiking in the heat is a killer for all ages and fitness levels. This trip was an unexpected 10/10.

So I went back to like page 8 of this thread and found the "rules" when it comes to paying my taxes, LOL. I can do 4 transactions every 5 days. And I have to wait 10 min in between each. So I won't be able to get them all paid off using the VGC I bought. But somehow I did 3 on Sunday, and 2 on Tuesday. So I'm not sure, LOL. I don't want to get screwed and be late. Taxes are due by 9/14. I guess I'll try on Friday to do 3, and see what happens. I guess I can always just push the rest through FD instead.

I was at WM tonight trying to do a $200 Five Back card from OD. The first card worked fine. The second kept giving "error reading card". I guess if it doesn't want to play nice tomorrow at a different WM I'll just use it online. UGH. Sometimes getting the 5x URs on the CIC isn't worth the work. LOL.

I'm near the max on the CIC I'm working on the MSR for. I've paid down twice this week, and I've asked Chase to transfer some of the CL from the other CIC over so I can be able to spend more. I guess they require you to have at least $1k still (the braces downpayment is sitting on there, LOL. So I have a balance, plus it's 0%). So I'm trying to pay that down too, LOL.

I pay my Property Taxes with VGCs. I have found with my system that I have to do 198.50, then 198.00 and 197.50.... so it isn't the same amount each time. Not sure if yours is like that. Then I put the small remainder in my Amazon account or like yesterday swipe at costco - 16 cents! I used 4 VGCs at Costco yesterday to use up small amounts.
I figured out the magical amount to spent $200 total. It's not having it be the same amount. But that does make me wonder if I should try other amounts, LOL.

She turned 20 in May. She will be in a dorm room at Dalhousie and had her own apartment for the past year (which we will be paying for until the end of April).

I think my heart is telling me to go and she seems okay with it now (last week she wanted me to stay). My son said "GO"! The Al Maha said they would waive the cancellation penalty (1 nights accommodation). They would like me to cancel right away but I just can't do it. I don't want to book the trip again.
I think she'll be okay. Go! Enjoy it! Someday she'll truly understand, LOL.

Got an email with a 20k mr pay over time offer on my gold card. Hadn't gotten one on this card before. Will turn it back off once the mr post.
I got the same email, only I'm pretty sure I have done this once or twice already. I'm not sure if I should try it again since 20k points aren't worth angering Amex (or is that even a concern with this?)

It'll tell you it's not available if they don't want you to have it. A few on r/churning were the same as you and weren't able to activate it.

Thanks for the heads up. There is just too many posts on reddit and I struggle to find the info I need. I appreciate that you share some of what you read over there. :goodvibes

I thought about this for a while. On the one hand, it's not that many points. On the other, how many times can you rebook this trip? As a parent of a young adult, I will say that, barring any special needs, most of them learn how to be capable and independent adults by having to take care of themselves. It's by doing that they learn what they can do, and this often leads to increased confidence and independence.

My DD went to a college that was about 6 hours (by plane) away from home, and other than her first year she managed to move herself into the dorms each year, she traveled home to visit by herself, and she traveled to NYC and Europe without us. So I guess my vote is that you should go. If she is in a dorm, I don't think it's fair that she ask you to stay home so you can feed her. However, I also agree with everyone who says that if you will feel so guilty that it will ruin your trip then there's not much point in going. I hope this helps.

Since I don’t carry a purse, my phone has to be able to fit in my pants pocket. I don’t think the big ones would!
Same here. I take a purse sometimes but often throw ID and phone in my pocket when chauffeuring DS around or going shopping. Plus I have small hands and couldn't use a big phone with one hand. Honestly I have a 12 mini and miss my SE. Face ID is terrible and I'm always swiping around instead of being able to use the home button.

I received an offer from Kabbage funding to set up and be approved for Kabbage Funding line of credit to earn $200. I vaguely remember hearing other people talk about doing a Kabbage bonus, but I thought it was for bank accounts. Is this a different offer? I have a “business” so not sure I’d want to sign up for this one, but just was curious if anyone has done this offer or if what I’d heard/read about was something else?
I'm pretty sure this is something else. The previous promotion (which I did) was for a Kabbage savings account.

I agree with @amcc, the park does a good job listing the trails as easy, moderate, and difficult, and for the most part we found it to be pretty accurate, as well as the time it stated that the hike would take (although we completed all the hikes in less time than stated, but if it was a family with kids then I think those times would be more spot on). One exception was an “easy” hike that we tried at 3pm, full sun, the first day. We got through it but was about to die… and that’s when we decided to heed the advice to hike early and late in the day, lol. We aren’t super “fit”, in fact my DH thinks hiking is “work”, but we were able to get through all of them that we started. I would definitely recommend the trip… and agree that it was a 10/10!

If anyone would care to chime in with what they would do I'd appreciate any advice.

Dd decided to take a semester off from biochemical engineering and apply to Bioveterinary sciences at Dalhousie U (and was accepted) in Halifax, starting in January. She was offered a job at the vet clinic (where she was shadowing the vet several hours a week during the summer) and works 23 hours / week. She is also taking 2 online courses so that she can start directly in 3rd year in biovet sciences in January.

So, my dilemma is that I booked my trip to the Maldives, Dubai and Singapore to coincide with her leaving for school (supposed to leave on September 17). Dd has indicated that she'd like me to stay home to look after her (make breakfast, lunch and dinner for her) and also she doesn't fancy being in the house alone (even though ds said he could stay or pop in for dinner whenever she wants). Dh is always traveling so he cannot be relied on to stay with her. She has decided that she wants to see her BFF in NYC (attends NYU) for a few nights and I'm not crazy about her flying there and staying in a hotel by herself (apparently Moxy East Village is close to NYU).

I can re-book for February BUT the Al Maha would be 480k points for 5 nights (I have it booked for 355k) and the Ritz Carlton Maldives would be 476,000 (I have it booked for 414k). I don't have the points to re-book, so I'd have to buy points and cut my stay at Al Maha to 3 nights to make a February trip work. I was able to get flights on points in February (1st on Etihad going there, 1st on Qatar on the leased Cathay Pacific planes and first on Oman Air to London to meet ds for an Arsenal game in early March). I just can't seem to bring myself to cancel the trip. I am so conflicted.

WWYD?
I am voting with the dont cancel your trip group. When I look back on my formative years, I am glad now (wasn’t back then) that my mom didn’t give in to me on a number of things. I actually thanked her that recently.

I'm another agree! I'm definitely not fit, although my DS is. My kids are 12 and 14, and we did several Moderate hikes in several parks - including the Narrows at Zion and Queens Garden/Navajo loop at Bryce. The heat was a factor, but I'm so glad we did them. A bucket list trip for sure!

Ugh. Booked SW flights to Costa Rica for Spring break. Terrible choices, either 5 am or 7 am. Somehow even though I was refreshing constantly by the time the flights loaded there were no Wanna get away left for the 7 am. Ended up transferring URs and paying 51k points pp for Anytime. 😭

I feel you. I only booked one way so far and that was 30k pp.

Yes, mine is one way too. I found that AA has a nonstop return flight for cheap and booked that with the last of my AA miles previously. Wish I had another 180k AA miles to get all 3 of us there but alas AA miles are harder to come by.

So for international flights and flights with plane change, how does it work on SW? Can you check in online? Does it check you in for both segments at once or do you have to check in separately for the second segment?
