And my older DD spent the night sleeping on a (padded) bench at JFK. Her connection was missed due to weather issues.

She immediately started trying to get an airport hotel but ran into 'no availability'. Her next flight was at 8 this morning, so she wanted a hotel with a shuttle.

Finally found a Wyngate by Wyndham supposedly with shuttle and booked it. Stars =3.3. Eww? Off to call the hotel and get the shuttle. I fell asleep. This morning I awoke to a text that she didn't make it to the hotel due to there was no shuttle.

This is a woman with a Plat and a CSR. She was in an Amex lounge until 9 and then the Delta lounge opened at 5am with showers available.

After conversation with the Wyngate and no shuttle, she got refunded. She didn't want to deal with surge pricing on uber, and I have no idea how she booked her flight or whether she had any flight delay protection, but it's Delta to Aruba from JFK. She's boarding now.

I'm almost relieved she stayed in the airport. She said it wasn't bad as she bought ear plugs and an eye mask, used a packing cube full of tshirts for a pillow and her backpack filled in the table space between the connected seats.

There were rooms she could have had for points further from the airport but no shuttles and whatever. Over the years she's roughed it a few times so is pretty savvy, but also knows how to enjoy the comforts of a nice lounge and good hotel.

Time was a factor as she just felt uncomfortable getting out of the airport area.

Anyway, she will spend a long weekend in Aruba and be back Tuesday.
I'm super picky about hotels, so I probably would have preferred the bench at JFK than a questionable hotel.

I got myself in a pickle on a business trip where I exited my flight at night, but then business required I return home almost immediately. There weren't flights out until morning and I wasn't able to sleep anyways due to the stress. But, I found MinuteSuites within the terminal and it's an individual room you can use, almost like a mini-hotel, with a bed, tv and desk space. Was part of the priority pass program (not sure if it still is). I think there may be MinuteSuites at JFK. Glad she was able to lounge hop a bit and get a shower in!

Well, I have a large expense coming up in early July, ~ 18K (solar panels). What card should I get?
My most recent was CIU almost 3 months ago. So I was thinking CIP or CIC but wanted to check with the collective in case there are other recommendations I'm not thinking of.

Recent cards
4/22 - CIU
2/22 - Amex Biz Plat
12/21 - SW Biz 2
11/21 - SW Biz 1
9/21 - Amex Plat
6/21 - CSP + CSR MDD

I worry about my velocity, just had so many home improvement projects that ate up all these SUBs during the past year, but spending should slow down considerably now. P2 has gotten fewer cards but needs more convincing... but it can be done if it's too soon for me. Thanks!

When you travel, where do you go and what hotels do you use? Looks like with the $2k and your regular monthly spend you can do up to 5K on a 3 month sub.

I was considering the Premier, but wasn't sure if there was something else that might be better.

Travel has been within the continental US and I usually fly with United (based out of EWR unfortunately, otherwise would probably fly Delta). Next trip will (naturally) be down to WDW. Hotel wise I like Hyatts but typically find myself in a Hilton or Marriott property based on how prevalent they are.

I could always put this spend on an existing card like my DoubleCash for the 2x points, but again, wasn't sure if there was something that might be worth churning for a year.

I'm trying to take advantage of the 5% off with my Discover card (it doesn't stack so I can probably just use my Redcard anyhow) but at any rate... I bought one $500 gift card and another $200 the next day. But the orders sporadically get cancelled. Target just sends some vague message about "we had to cancel your order". I'm not getting a fraud email from Discover or anything.

Is there a certain number of e-Giftcards you can buy from Target.com in a certain period of time? Or am I just unlucky? I called discover and they said they aren't seeing anything on their side that indicates they are cancelling -- it must be Target.

(Sorry if this should have gone in another thread -- I searched and most Target cancellation threads seemed to be about a Target circle promo and I didn't want to start a new thread just for this issue since it was credit card cash back related!)

edit: wow... "bot" instead of "bought" haha

The MinuteSuites are still part of the Priority Pass. Just used one a couple of months ago in Nashville. Much better place to wait out a delay than in the gate.

I would have stayed on the bench rather than go to a hotel I wasn't familiar with and hadn't read any reviews.

I actually thought of this but she booked the Wyndam so quickly I didn't get to say it. Then forgot it. I'm going to google to try and see if they have them.

edit: they were supposed to arrive at JFK in 2020. Looks like that didn't happen. They do have them at LaGuardia, DFW, DTW, CLT, ATL, BWI, and Nashville. They are not inexpensive but would certainly be convenient.

Any tricks to using the MinuteSuites? Do you need to (or can you) reserve in advance? A limit on how long you can use them? Everything at the airports has been so crowded recently. I was in Phoenix in May and Denver just last week and the restaurants and lounges were packed.

The one in CLT you can book ahead or when you show up if they have space. You get 1 hour, and the Priority Pass does not apply after 10pm! I learned that when I spent 12 hours in CLT overnight. UGH.

They'll let you have 8 hours for $175 from what I read.

If paying cash they start at $40, but then you can do 15 minute increments for $12, I think it was.

So, an hour free is nice on the priority pass to get a little peaceful time.

You can usually reserve them ahead of time but I've had luck doing walk-up at times. Sometimes they can also squeeze you in for less than the hour around others or move you from one room to another if reservations necessitate. I've found that if you're up front on how long you need it for "my flight's delayed an hour and a half" and be nice to the agent they will do what they can for you. I've never planned on using it ahead of time, it was always due to a change in plans. You do get one hour but again, sometimes they will let you stretch it depending on how busy they are. Didn't know about the after 10PM rule.

Amex Biz Gold? Click a few Biz Plat links on Dischurners and switch to Gold and you should be able to pull a 130K MR for $10K spend. Unfortunately I don't remember who's link I used last week, but it was someone from here. I just kept opening them incognito until I pulled it up. Combine that with a CIC/CIU for the rest of the spend if you can split it.

Ah, I never thought to try opening referral links in incognito. I thought they were set and wouldn't change the amount.

Hey Qatar Airways experts. Anyone know the specific hour/time award availability opens up directly on Qatar? I understand it to be 360 days in advance, I just haven't been able to nail down the time.

I got my SW Premiere Credit Card in 2019. I upgraded it to the Priority Card in 2021. I did not get a SUB with the upgrade which I realize now was stupid on my part but oh well. Here is my question: Since I upgraded would I be eligible for a SUB for a new premiere card in 2023? Or am I already eligible? What if I applied for the plus card? Am I currently eligible for a SUB since I have never held this card before? TIA!

Yes, you are eligible for the subs. You can double check the terms, but Southwest cards you are eligible every 24 months from when you earned your last bonus. If you’re getting the same exact card it’s recommended you wait approximately 30 days until your new application just so your old card is clear from your account.
