Need Chase advice.

I already have Disney Premier Visa, just recently got Sapphire Preferred. Closed IHG recently, not eligible for bonus on that one yet.

I only have 2 new cards in the last 24 months.

I was looking at what Chase card to get next. I was thinking one of the Southwest cards because I like and would use Southwest. However, it is only a 40k signup bonus right now. Should I wait?

Also, saw that the British Airways cards had a 100k sign up bonus. I live in Memphis and not sure how many opportunities I will have for international travel where these points could be more valuable. I see American and Alaska are travel partners with BA. We don't have many American flights out of Memphis and I am not sire if we have any Alaska flights.. Any thoughts on how I could use those points? Is that a good sign up bonus?

I personally have the CFU and CFF along with the CSP. The URs I earn with the two Freedoms get combined with the CSP URs monthly. I then transfer to SW (or other travel partner) as needed. I like the diversity of URs that can be transferred or used in a variety of ways. That being said - I did briefly hold the Chase SW card(s) in the past and Chase United- basically got them for the sign on bonuses and cancelled. But I did get the Freedoms first.

I also hold one no AF Amex - MRs can also be used in a variety of ways. And finally I have the Discover IT - can't go wrong with earning cash. I use the cash back for travel and to pay the AF on the CSP.

I would totally wait on the SW cards, they have a history of higher bonuses in the Sept/Oct time frame.

I can't comment on BA, it sounds like a good bonus since I know you can get some decent redemption. I can fly to Chicago for 7,500 + $5.60, but they do have high fee for international travel.

Have you thought about the United card?

United doesn't have many direct flights out of Memphis. I prefer direct flights for convenience and points savings. I think I will wait on the Southwest card, like you suggested, for a better sign up bonus.

I looked at some articles online and see that the BA partnership with American looks pretty favorable for a lot of destinations from Memphis. So, I think I will go with that for now.

Memphis is one of the biggest fedex hubs... great if u want to ship yourself anywhere in the world!
All jokes aside, AA short haul is a really nice niche. i flew my parents and I for 50k BA miles from DEN to LAX. The only other options i can see is if u do the CFF with the 5% bonus on groceries for the year if u can make that big bonus. currently is 9% with the quarterly bonus. that will open u up to all options, ie United, hyatt, SW, etc.

Keep in mind that the usual recommendation for Chase is one card every 3 months. You can do two close together if you haven't gotten any other Chase cards for a while before, but if the third one after that is also close, approval odds will become iffy. Also, a more hard rule, is that you can only be approved for 2 cards every 30 days.

No interest in business cards? That will prolong your 5/24 status. (But velocity rules still apply.)

Definitely wait on SW. Citi has really been stingy on approvals for the 80k Citi Premier bonus but you can try that one. I was approved early on after the increase but my wife was recently denied. Although she had already applied for the CSP and we did a refinance recently. I also like doing small business cards. BoA has a $750 statement credit for $5,000 spend in 90 days. Chase also has some nice bonuses on their business cards. Although the spend is $7,500 on two and $15,000 on one. You could also go for the Chase united for another airline option.

I took a tour of the FDX hub when I was a kid. After seeing the boxes fly around the conveyor belts (and sometimes off the conveyor belts), I promise I will never ship myself anywhere! 😆 🤣 😂

I know I can use my UR's but I like to hoard them and use them sparingly, so if I can use United Points for most of the flights then I won't have to use my UR's. I will have to look at tour Itineries - that is a great idea.

Oh, if you already have airline points, then definitely use them first. I've been sitting on a couple hundred thousand AA miles for a few years, though, and have not found a good use for them so I prefer the flexibility of collecting MRs and URs. We did have a great trip to Europe once in AA First, but I wasn't able to duplicate that deal again.

Can someone remind me about transferring AmEx MR points to Marriott--do the names on the accounts need to match, or could I transfer from my AmEx card to DH's Marriott account? (I suspect that this is not a great value, but I only need a few thousand points and this seems the easiest way to get them.)

amex plat or gold Work? They have good redemptions for business or first for international travel.

We were able to do this with Flying Blue, but I'm an AU on one of DH's Amex cards. I think they wouldn't let us do it otherwise, but it might be different with Marriott.

The name needs to match. You can add him as AU, then you'll be able to transfer to his account. A MR earning biz card would be best, so you don't have to worry about adding to his 5/24. If you do it from your biz plat, the green AU is free.

Not exactly what you asked but there is a bonus of 50% on Marriott transfers through end of August using URs. Might be something to check out if you have URs.

You can always add them to your account and then transfer to him.
