Update on my Amex hotel credit. I got two $200 credits that stacked. One was the hotel credit and the other was the travel credit. We will see what the $100 incidentals credit does when I check out tomorrow.

I am trying a Venmo credit card for double rewards until the end of the year so 6% off at highest category spend such as groceries, like BJs…still waiting for the proof of double rewards. They say it will kick in within 2 cycles but I sure hope that means 1st cycle still counts.

Note to self: Check what outdoor activities are allowed before visiting. We are not enjoying the skunk smell in Chicago. It is giving me a major headache.

I smell it at a lot of hotels lately. Definitely at the one we met at in Clearwater, The Sheraton Sand Key. At first I thought it was a skunk because our balcony faced that little park. But then after smelling it at all hours of the day I realized what it was. The Confidante in Miami also had it. Just in the hallways, no balcony there. A few others we have stayed at also.

I had to google, but I quickly found my answer.

Very interesting article! lol The first time I smelled the skunk smell and knew what it was was at a Music Festival about 6-7 years ago. I went with my friend and our older kids, they were 15-17 at the time. I was like man they need to find that skunk and get rid of it, it is ruining the whole festival. They laughed at me and told me it was pot. I am like, what, are you sure. why would someone willingly be in that smell?? (And how do you know what it smells like??) I thought I knew what it smelled like and it wasn't that. But recently I have been smelling the "old scented" pot too. lol And I was confused again thinking wait, I thought it smelled like a skunk. I thought maybe the different ways to partake smelled differently. So I am somewhat naïve I guess. I know the smells now, just would not know how to participate myself. But now I know why they smell different.

My employer owns the building we work in. Above us are apartments. It's an old building from the mid 1860s. Every once in a while our office smells like skunk. It's gross. It's also smelled like cigarette smoke, a meth lab (or what I imagine a meth lab would smell like), and Long John Silver's (there's a restaurant below us). But skunk is nasty.

Our hotel room in Atlanta stunk. I'm old fashioned but just don't love the current trend. But if you are going to smoke pot, how about pot that smells like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies?

a couple of years ago I learned about that 'skunk smell' when we got new neighbors....the first couple of times I smelled it wafting thru the treeline, I kept asking my family about the skunks.... :rotfl2: Now I'm smelling it almost everywhere I go and I've been educated (thanks neighbors) - the mom would come home from work, the garage door would open....and man is that stuff pungent!

I have a question about Chase product changes. I would like to downgrade or change my CSP. Hoping to get a new SUB later. I am currently at 0/24 and have the following Chase cards:
SW premier and plus
Chase Freedom
CSP
Disney Visa
Marriott Bonvoy Visa

Any advice on what I can change my CSP to and still get the SUB for a new CSP later?

Yeah, the first time I smelled it was actually when I was here (Chicago) for training in 2019 and we were watching fireworks from a park and I mentioned the smell and a co-worker told me. They have since expanded to recreational being allowed as you walk the city streets.

It’s funny that I’m seeing this convo. We just had my kids in NYC to do touristy stuff, and the smell is EVERYWHERE. I had to have an interesting convo with my kids about what the smell was 😂

I would product change your CSP to the Freedom Unlimited card so that you have a card that offers 1.5x UR on non-category spending. It also has the new 3x categories on dining and drug stores. You might also consider changing your Freedom to the Freedom Flex -- same 5% rotating categories, but also has the 3x on dining and drug stores (in case you forgot to bring your CFU or choose not to PC to that product).

Me also. There was plenty of it in the dorms in college back in the 70ties. And for those of us that didn't partake, the old smell was plenty disgusting. I also was not a cigarette smoker as many were in my day and came from one of the few completely non smoking families so for me the whole idea was gross. Now, I just go about my business but rarely does it bother me or do I actually smell it.

Some of the young adults (still living at home with their parents plus have babies - all the same family, and their friends) will get outside and I know they are smoking not because I smell it but because I pick up the litter later on when I'm putting out my trash. Teeny little zip bags maybe 1 and 1/2 by 1 and 1/2 with residue and old, cheap cigarillos plus butts. Yucch. I put on my garden gloves and grab a plastic bag. It blows along my property line, that and snack size baggies and empty plastic water bottles. Guess they are on a health kick cause it used to be beer cans or bottles.

Any Chase Freedom product, including the old 'Chase Freedom' that you can't app for because it is no longer offered, the Freedom Flex and the Freedom Unlimited. Keep a healthy amount of available credit on it in the event you need to change it back to CSP or even into a CSR. And, you can hold more than one Chase Freedom, which works nicely if you value the 5% categories and just want to apply for the others and get the SUB and other perks.

Note: Your Chase Freedom card is the only one in your list that I wouldn't close and churn again under current rules.

Has anyone put a deposit on a Carnival cruise using Paypal? I am unable to complete a booking using Paypal as the payment method (to get 5% back through Disc). I'm wondering if this is a normal problem for them if anyone has tried in the past, or if it's just a glitch and I should call?

OMG....I am getting a letter in the mail that I can see in my Daily Digest today from the Funeral Home closest to me. Looks like it is making me and my family aware of it's services. I got a card from some company a few years ago, but this is my first from the real deal.

Add to that my ex brother in law passed on Saturday night from a rare skin cancer. He was a year younger than me. I am grieving along with my kids and the extended family as he was a great guy and I feel so bad for his wife and kids (20ties). From start to finish it was just a few short months before he was dead. His younger sister died just a year ago. So my kids have lost an aunt and an uncle in just 1 year.

I really don't like to be reminded that life is fragile. I want to live until I'm about 90. Wonder how I'll feel about it then?

I also have a letter from Amex...wonder what that is?

Oh, I'm so very sorry:(

And when I was first divorced and refinanced my mortgage on my old house, I had to have my dad co-sign. I sometimes receive mail addressed to him at my new house because of that (I think) including mail from cremation places. Ugh, no. My WASPy Connecticut upbringing does not allow me to think of such things while the living are still alive!
