Remember to give something to chew on during take-off and landing. The pressure can be painful on their little ear drums.
I had awful ear problems as a baby/kid. I would cry the entire plane ride. I’m so nervous he’ll have that happen too. I’m planning on bringing teethers, pacifiers, his sippy cup with maybe some juice because he’s never had that before.

I wouldn't give him food/drink he hasn't had before, unless you mean he hasn't had the sippy cup before. Without knowing if he'll get airsick, I wouldn't want to add anything else that could cause issue, even with as well as he does with new foods.

I feel you about our little boys having a hard time not running around. Luckily for me, mine is happy as a pea in his carseat so I'm hoping the harness feels the same way to him. We are going to practice right before on a chair at home. I'm looking to download a couple of his favorite shows on the iPad and bring some flip a flap books for him to go through. I've heard stickers are a big hit for little kids too so I might get a sticker book from the store for him to play with. It'll be something new so hopefully it will be a hit!

Maybe think about flying during his nap times? Maybe the motion of the plane will lull him to sleep?
We haven’t figured out why he hates the car seat so much. He always has. We thought he’d outgrow it but he hasn’t yet. He barely lasts 15 minutes without crying. The pacifier helps a ton but we try not to use it in the car unless absolutely necessary. I’m planning to take him out of the seat during the flight after we take off.

Stickers is a good idea! I have some already I should pull out. He also has some cars he likes but they’re super annoying. I wouldn’t want to bother everyone around us. Right now he doesn’t pay attention when we put shows on but maybe it would be different on the plane.

I asked Dh about planning the flight around his nap times but he said we’ll be out so long he’ll have to just sleep sometime which is true. It’s an hour drive to the airport and then the flight will be 3-3 1/2 hours and another hour drive to my parents house. Then you add in getting bags and stuff. I’m just preparing myself for a rough time

My flight is gone!! I’ve been looking for the change window on my July 28th flight on SW. I just looked tonight and my flight is not showing as an option anymore. No email yet and my account still shows that flight. Good news is they have a lot more options than they did when I first booked and good times. Bad news is the rental car situation and not sure if I get in later, they will still have my car. I don’t want to rebook my car at twice the cost of what I already have. Off to get this straightened out.
Same... our perfect flight to MCO is gone. I don’t know what to do! Our options are super early or lame 2 stops.

@wendow will your daughter get to do her CP now that they are starting again?
She applied today! Not sure when she will hear back or exactly how limited the program will be at first but I think she has a decent chance. She wasn't sure she'd want to go back because she is transferring to a different school this fall and starting her program. We were not expecting a return until Jan 2022. The news today was shocking but the timing works really well for her. She will have to give up an internship this summer and delay school another semester but feels it is worth it.

This thread is awesome, although for every 10 pages there's 1 page of info on topic, and 9 pages of facebook posts. ;) I'm sure it will be quite the unpopular opinion, but you're making us work for that value to find the diamonds in the rough.

Used to get a minimum of 20% off Disney as many of you probably did, but now sources have dried up.. Most of the 20% discounted sites have disappeared except one that I've subscribed to called Mylivetosave (Trilegiant) which I still can buy Lowes, HD, Target and some others at 20% off (limited to $2,475 per year) . However, I used to buy the Target and trade them for Disney cards, but alas, that option is gone as well. I guess the maximum discount is around 15%, and limited to about $1500 a quarter assuming you use a new sign up of Discover at BJ's or Sams. Based on what the Trilegiant sites used to do by selling monthly subscriptions to people who didn't take advantage of the gift card buying, it seems that most stores likely sell their gift cards to bulk resellers at a minimum 20% discount. Does anyone know if there are other Trilegiant sites still accepting sign ups? If I were to cancel my $9.99 subscription a month to Mylivetosave, I'd never be able to sign back up again, but they have to have other sites still around?

Here's a sample of another program that is likely closed to new sign ups.. https://www.greatfun.com/Results_New?brandId=&categoryId=all&keyword=&searchType=gift&zipCode

So many people used to call these sites scams, but if you worked them within their own rules, it was extremely beneficial, but no idea why I can't find any sites to sign up any longer.

We had an audiologist recommend Ear Planes. They have been a wonder for my lil guy. I didn’t see a specific age on the box but there were many comments about age in the Q&A section. Only needed for ascent and descent. Really does wonder for ear pain and plugging.

And well done for buying a seat for your son when you aren’t required to. You are making a great safety choice!

I can't remember what brand I got, but I got some of these type thing to try. As I get older my ears bother me a bit more when I fly. Haven't decided if I'll try them later this month when I go to SLC or not since it's at a higher elevation it may not be as bad. I remember it not being as much of an issue flying in/out of Denver but more recently the last time I was in SLC I don't remember if it was or not. I just dread having to clear my ears once we land because it hurts so much more but I also like to be able to hear well :) Chewing gum doesn't help.

Those are cool! I’ve never seen them before. A lot of the reviews for kids around his age say they fell out too often or the kid pulled them out. I could totally see him pulling them out and trying to eat one lol.

We would’ve bought a seat for him no matter what because we want our own row but we’ve always planned to strap him into the car seat

Gum doesn’t work for me either. I have to pop my own ears on the plane and after and it usually takes multiple times. Otherwise I have that pressure in my ears after landing for a long time and it hurts too much

It's the "cloudy" sound that bugs me. And the only way I can clear my ears is to blow my nose, plugging my nose like some can does nothing. Thankfully I generally need to blow my nose as the temperature changes on the plane and in the airport require it, but when I know it's going to hurt so much more now than even a few years ago, it makes me not want to at all. But as my nose could be literally running, I have to.

Off topic, but all your talk about college tours got me thinking. Any suggestions for how to find colleges/universities that might be a good fit for a particular kid. DD is a sophomore, good student but anxious when under too much pressure. I want to send her out of TX, preferably a smaller school (maybe 10k kids max) with moderate level academics. She's interested in being a teacher or psychologist, likely work with special ed kids, so prestige is not a factor. $$ is a consideration but private is doable as long as it's LGBTQ friendly. I'm basically searching the internet blindly and her hs counselor is no help at all. Any websites, online forums, or regional university suggestions welcome!

I really look forward to planning one of those cross-country college tour trips...

It's a tough board (takes a while to learn who is helpful, who is just a know-it-all, and who is a 15 year old kid pretending to know what they are talking about) but college confidential has a wealth of information if you're willing to sift through it. With your preferences above, I suspect there are posters who will give you some colleges to start researching. I think there are lots of great places that will meet your DD's interests/requirements.

I LOVE Savannah. The city planning and the well preserved urban layout are perfection. If you have time, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is a great read that captures the city's personality. We also ate at Treyler Park and enjoyed it the food and drinks. Our favorite was the basement bar at The Olde Pink House - the restaurant is supposed to be one of Savannah's best but the bar was unique, you can get food there, and we didn't need a reservation. My kids favorite was an Churchill's English pub.

That's a great read. I just finished the audio-book last month.

Thank you! Too many good choices and not enough time! I think I might have to settle for the movie of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. We're leaving day after tomorrow!

The audiobook is really good, and you can probably just download it and listen to it on the drive if you're interested. I enjoyed it, and now I want to go to Savannah.

Quick question, I was helping a p3 apply for a CSP from my support link and I am getting the spinning wheel "Verifying Your Information" for 5+ minutes so far. How long do I let it go? Do we have to call or just wait and see at this point? She has no Chase accounts currently if that matters.

Call the status line 800 432 3117. If there's no app on file it's probably quite safe to try again but maybe use a different browser.

Oh, do they have alerts set up for their credit reports? If they haven't gotten anything about a hard pull makes the no app on the status line a good to go to try again. The alerts are pretty instant when applying.

Welcome. I think you’ll find this thread one of the most friendly around, which is likely why you see so much support for each other in what may appear as off-topic. Churning for many of us here allows us to live the lifestyles we want to, so you may see that we just support each other about life in general, as it comes up.

I’ve followed the board for years, but only began posting regularly in the past year. But I get the impression that most regular posters here are in it for the long run and are here daily. There’s not going to be a how-to guide or a tutorial- it just takes time to learn.

I’m sorry I don’t have a specific response to your question. My Disney GC strategy: I am combining the 10x points you receive at grocery stores in the first 6 months with the personal Amex Plat, along with $5 reward per every $50 gc at Meijier to get about a 23% discount on Disney gc.

Again, welcome.

THANK YOU! That was just what I needed. I truly appreciate your helpfulness!

Looking for recommendations on which downtown Denver Hyatt to choose. DS and I are heading in for the weekend Brewers v Rockies series in June.

I thank you in advance!
The Hyatt Regency is nice and in a great location. Pretty sure there is a light rail station pick-up there that would take you close to Coors Field. We're planning to go to some games this summer. So happy they are having fans this year :)

We have a pool and my ears are awful in the pool too. I can barely swim down 3 feet without the pressure being too much. Sometimes I pop my ears to swim down further but then they don’t pop back and I get that cloudy sound you’re talking about. One time I had that for hours after swimming. I had a hollow sound in my head if I tapped it

Brace for the worst and hope for the best.....when our first was that age he wanted to play with the dumb tray table nonstop. We try to entertain with anything. We grabbed a new magnet activity book for him to play with and pulled it out on the plane for the first time.

Good luck!
