I love credit cards so much! v4.0 - 2021 (see first page for add'l details)

I will say one of the reasons why I got it and put myself at 5/24 is that my regular grocery store doesn't code as grocery with amex but it does with chase and discover. The 2% back on grocery is better than I'll do in the quarters neither of them have grocery or if there's not special deal with the CSR or Hyatt. But I also realize Fred Meyer is an outlier and unless you live in the PNW you aren't shopping there. Now I could have used the visas/mastercards I buy at Safeway when they have their coupons, which came out today, but I use those for stuff I can never get more on, like copays. Plus I'd run out before the next promo and I don't have a card with office supplies.

All that to say it totally depends on what your goals and and what you plan to do. But if you are just looking for a way to save on disney, there are better ways to do it via gift cards or collecting points to stay at the swan dolphin. Or to cover airfare.

I did wonder why you got it, but figured you had your reasons. :D

Is the Disney Visa worth it if...

-I've got two credit cards already which give me better cashback/miles
-I visit WDW every other year only
-I'm a teacher, so I need to go during school holidays (that is, couldn't necessarily take advantage of cardholder discounts at resorts)
-We don't do table service dining, only QS

I really want one, but I think it's just a want, and not something which would serve me. I'd love to hear from the impartial experts!

First, a question. What are your other two cards and if they are Chase cards, how long have you had them?

If the Disney card would be your first Chase card and you've had the other two for more than 2 years, sure. Grab the Disney card. Get the $250 offer, nothing less. Then, after a year, cancel it. You will be ahead $200, and if necessary apply again.

Now, if you have no other Chase cards, there are some valuable rewards out there.

I've had both Disney cards and those $200 rewards came in handy on my visit. For spending $500 that's a real nice benefit.

However, I would not keep paying an annual fee on a Disney card. Especially if you have better options for points and miles. There is a no fee card as well as a $49 card. I think both can get you $200 profit plus a few points.

Many on this board are collecting a lot of different points. Mostly ultimate rewards from Chase and Membership rewards from American Express. These points are super flexible and can be used for almost anything from hotel rooms to flights to ride on lawn mowers (that's what I bought.)

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with wanting and getting a disney card. Just after you get the reward, keep a no fee for the Disney feel and put your spend on some cards with more flexible points.

Decision made! I’m going to apply for the Amex Business Gold. The kicker was realizing I can get a 25% refund on points if I use the points to book a first class ticket. Since I’m earning all these points to pay for flights, that could turn out to be a huge benefit.

If you want to open a new card, there are much better choices.

If you have a Chase checking account, you can request a Disney debit card. It has the designs and I think all of the same benefits (just not the points earnings).

I'm not so much looking to to open a new card, as much as confirm that the Disney Visa wouldn't really get me anything special as I don't do table service and I can't take advantage of the cardholder discount room rates.

I don't use debit cards as I don't think they're safe-- and there are no rewards-- but I appreciate the suggestion! As much as I'd love a Darth Vader card but it doesn't seem to be a good choice for us now.

I have a Discover card, and a Chase Visa. The latter is my 'daily expenses' card that I put pretty much everything on. It's an airline-branded card, and the miles are useful as my fiancé is from another country, and we (used to!) travel there frequently.

Thank you both for your insight!

Honestly, the grocery wasn't a reason, I'd forgotten about that part until I went to apply and saw it, and though Oh! a grocery card, nice. Trying to offset the backup/actual WDW trip this fall so the statement credit was quite appealing for such a small spend. The possibility of a cardholder room discount doesn't hurt. And I'm trying to round things out a bit as to what my keeper cards will be vs what I'll churn or get rid of. With this one and the statement credit from the AS biz I'll have the room pkg paid for with gc and am just hoping for a discount and would like to buy an AP as I'd also go in May for 50th stuff, but man having to buy tickets and a room, ouch. Also not worth the $40 savings getting them from undercover when I'm not 100% it's the actual, even though it is :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

And I know I could PYB with my URs, but those are still earmarked for Japan/Asia in Sept/actually next Sept.

I'll go for the Aspire sometime in the fall so I'll have it next fall now, since I won't need it this fall.

The one bummer, and I'm waiting until I know for sure Japan won't let me in, is what my travel insurance will do. I fully don't expect them to refund me or let me change the dates to next year, but at the same time, if I'm not allowed into the country I bought the insurance for something would be nice.

The business platinum gets you 35% points back, just in case that changes your decision. Both are good choices though.

I'm not a fan of debit cards either. Ironically my BIL is an IT guy and feels debit cards are safer and doesn't believe in auto-pay. My sister and BIL use a debit card exclusively; I cringe at the loss of points. That said if you have Chese checking, you can get a Disney Debit card and not really use it. Since it wouldn't earn rewards, you could use it only at Disney for the discounts.

You may want to consider a Chase card that earns Ultimate Rewards. They transfer 1:1 to the Chase airline card programs, Southwest, United and BA and also to several other airlines. Some of them have better earning structures than the airline cards.

You would need a Chase sapphire product to do transfers. There are feeder cards that earn as much as 5% in certain categories. You can apply for and get up to 5 Chase cards in a 2 year period and hold quite a few depending on your credit qualifications.

I'm 68 and I've never held a debit card. I do have an ATM card. I've never felt safe with them either. And I've finally got all my kids to use credit cards and pay off monthly, rather then do debit.

You might be able to see if you got A-list for the flight if you try to buy Early Bird Check In. I remember when I had A-list, the website wouldn't let me purchase it for my own tickets, but I could purchase it for everyone else.
Saw this after I checked in, so couldn’t test it.
I have a connecting flight so two boarding groups and I ended up with A43 and A20.
Which I’m happy about, but I don’t know whether my DH (who checked me in from home) was just fast with good WiFi or if A-list status played a part??

ETA: just looked at my actual boarding pass and it says A-List on it. So I think it did work.

One of the companies was handing them out to the students at the Stanford job fair that I went to for recruitment. Of course, DS was little so I grabbed him one.

I have a bigger one in a basket of wooden toys I keep for the girls. They love it!

Quick question about MSR and credits. I'm working on the $10K MSR on the Chase Southwest card. From what I've seen any credits that post reduce the RR points in my account but the amount going towards the MSR doesn't change. Do credits not effect the MSR or will this be corrected? I've only had one billing cycle and this isn't something I've paid attention to before with other cards.

I'm getting ready to apply for a Chase Freedom Unlimited soon and wanted to double check that I can use the referral link from my hubs' Chase Freedom even though we are in the same household?

It will count towards the MSR but you should make up the difference in case there is ever an audit and they take the points back.
