I was gonna say not to do it to meet MSR, then I looked at my notes (taken from folks here in the past) and found this:

Don’t buy GCs at Staples/OD/OM, Lowe’s, Marriott, & poss Home Depot to meet MSR (Grocery, BJs & Best Buy are safe)
Best to vary the amount of purchases, too

I thought there was something about some stores reporting each of the items purchased through an advanced electronic method (can't remember what it's called ... Level II Data maybe), but I don't seem to have that noted.

Hopefully someone has direct knowledge of the 10x earn on Trader Joe GCs at TJ's and/or if it's safe to spend that way for MSR

I feel like I should know this or be able to find it, but I just can't seem to! Any DP on whether I can buy gift cards at grocery stores and use my Platinum Amex for 10X MR? I feel like I heard no...but then I think that was maybe just to make the MSR, which I've done? I need to buy about $1000 in gc today and I don't want to use my Amex if it isn't going to trigger (or will be clawed back). I'll use my Freedom (where I'm still 5x UR)
Not a hard no. You should be fine. Even a few here and there during MSR is generally okay.

ETA: @hoosierjohn is correct :D

Okay so I need Ireland for St. Patrick's Day 2023 (my shamrock's 18th bday). I've been saving up URs and if I can get the Amex pop up to go away, I'll try for MRs. So is the 2 year to start getting points? Or do I start looking at flights? I think you said we can't book till under a year.

Yes. Two years out begin acquiring the points. So I'd start planning now to get the points and miles you need in place. Make a plan to have them all in place by March of 2022 and then start stalking the flights. The two years is a general rule of thumb. I always want the miles in place one year before the flight will take place. If you are starting from scratch and have a super boujee trip planned then you will need more time. Someone who is a slow churner also would need to give themsleves more time. We all earn and burn at different rates. I am on a 5 year plan to accumulate between 5 million UR points for two specific trips I have in mind.

Hello! I am new to DisBoards and this is my first (well technically 11th) post! I am so happy I came across this thread because I am just now trying to figure out how to get enough points/rewards for flights for me and my husband for two trips to WDW in March 2022 and September 2022. What luck!

We went on our very first WDW trip in February 2020 and we love it so much we actually just bought DVC resale for Animal Kingdom. We live in Orange County and pre-Covid would go to Disneyland about twice a month. We have never stayed at Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotel, but planned a few nights for our anniversary in June (which probably won’t happen but that’s ok). I think planning vacations is my hobby 😊

Since the first posts ask for lots of info, here it goes! Apologies if this is too much.
  • New cards in the last 24 months: None
  • Current credit cards: Chase Sapphire that we’ve had for at least 5 years. Credit union bank credit card we have had forever and never use, no rewards. Gas card that is very old.
  • We can finagle the minimum spends (I am seeing a lot of $3K or $5K in 3 months).
  • We almost always fly out of SNA, but could also fly out of LAX and Long Beach. Any airline works. I see lots of AA and Delta to MCO.
  • We don’t have any hotel rewards. Would like to get something to stay at a Hampton by Hilton hotel for 3-4 nights per year to visit family.
  • Current Points/Rewards:
Southwest: 10,000 (used to have a southwest card many years ago)
    Chase Sapphire: 40,000
  • Goals: 2-3 flights per year (~$1500 - $2300 worth of flights per year). 2-4 nights hotel per year would be cool too. Would love to upgrade seating if possible.
  • Planning for March 2022 and September 2022 WDW trips.
  • Travel party: me and my husband (he could also be a player).
  • I was thinking about capital one venture rewards, amex (not sure what the bonuses are for the high annual fee though), and/or bank of America premium rewards. I am thinking 40-60K sign on bonuses as minimums. I don’t know what to do and need help- should I get a new one every 3-4 months, how do I alternate with my husband- wont our accounts be connected? What are the best ones to get and I should I get one first? How can I game plan this?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and insights!!

Did the Motley Fool thing about 15 minutes ago. My offer was 6000 URs. No email from Amex, no pending pts on Chase. This thing better go through :guilty: Like someone said above, there’s no way I’m paying for this thing.
I did mine last night. I didn’t get the email from amex until this afternoon. I also had the 6000 UR offer which I got an email saying I shopped through them but I didn’t dig any further to see if the shopping was pending. Also first time shopping through that portal.

One of the $100 visa gift cards I bought from Kroger is inactive. What a pain in the butt. Thankfully I have the receipt. And was told it was flagged for fraud. I have been having more issues with the $100 visas from Kroger. Sticking to the $200 visas from staples or od/om going forward.

These SW changes are a bit haphazard. I went to check on my Easter trip and they only had me flying from Fort Myers to Atlanta. The Atlanta to Richmond leg was gone. I called in and they were able to fix it but it's feeling like you really need to keep your eye on it.

A couple of things came to mind reading your post. You could product change (pc) your Sapphire to a Freedom card and then apply for a CSP to add to your 40,000 URs stash. (You can't hold two Sapphire products). The CSP offer is slightly elevated right now. If you get the card you could also have your husband apply with your support link to get an added bonus. Do you both have the Sapphire? If not, and you can generate a link, then I would have the other apply first. Another thought since you mentioned Hilton is the biz card. That also has an elevated offer right now if you apply through someone's link. If you happen to have a business or a side hustle, most biz cards won't affect your 5/24 status. Since you are 0/24, you have many options, but I would personally focus first on the cards that are affected by */24 status, like the Chase cards.

If I were in your shoes I would immediately product change the sapphire to freedom, then do a modified double dip the Chase Sapphire Reserve & Preferred ($9K MSR) but I would buy Disney Gift Cards at grocery store with CSR and use the Chase Pay Yourself Back feature. If you buy $4,000 in DGCs you'll earn 12,000 URs from the $4K gift card purchase, plus the 50,000 from the SUB. You'll have 102,000 URs (including the 40K you currently have), that you can turn into statement credit on your CSR $1,530. Once you earn the SUB for the CSP you'll have another 64K URs that you can transfer to the CSR worth $960.

Would you be able to meet the $9K, MSR in 3 months? You'll be able to take a statement credit of about $2,500 if you use PYB and you'll have $4,000 in DGC to start planning your trips.

I did the Motley Fool offer on both mine and P2's accounts last night and only have the emails from AMEX saying the offers were redeemed. Crickets from Chase and I don't see any points showing as pending in the next statement. I've never done the shop through Chase portal before, but I'm fairly certain I clicked the right places. Do they have a way to track 'shopping trips' like Rakuten does if for some reason these don't track?

I'm in the same boat, my Chase shows nothing! I'm worried that it won't track.

My amex email took almost 24 hours to come, my chase email was almost instantly. If you go back to the UR portal you should be able to see the pending points in the "My shopping details" under the Earn Bonus points, but those took about 24 hours to show pending.
