I used if for Amazon reloads....did $1 less than the amount (denied for entire amount). Also was able to get the $300 with no fees with a code that was on Doctor of Credit.

yeah I used that code too, no fees. I thought about amazon but I just loaded $200 on there from a Best Buy deal lol. If it were Christmas I’d have no problem spending that!
so what happens to the $1 left on the card? Stuff like that irks me!

I inadvertently found a way to use the American Express Paypal credit. I placed an order for pickup from Target on the 16th and hadn't picked it up yet. Today in my email I got a target gift card for the amount of the purchase. I guess I didn't read my pickup email closely enough and I only had from Friday to Monday to pickup. So, I now have a target gift card to use. Oh well, at least one of my paypal credits is used up!

I've tried to follow this thread in the past and I just couldn't keep up. I'm never going to learn enough about this to get really good at it and make it a "lifestyle," but I'll be spending a lot over the summer and I want to take advantage of that.

Looking for advice on a new card. Following the 2nd sticky:

10/20-CHASE Marriott Bonvoy

-Our monthly spending fluctuates a lot, currently planning an 8-week road trip over the summer and will probably spend $10,000 on that from now until the end of July. We're thinking about getting one card for me now, then one card for my husband starting closer to the beginning of the trip (we leave the first week of June), and maybe one more for me starting later. I don't know exactly what cards he has currently but I know he's not at his limit. Even if we don't spend enough for three minimum spends on this trip, we have other expenses we could put on the cards.

-We never carry a balance.

-We typically fly out of Tampa, Orlando, or maybe Miami (if flying international and it saves us a lot of money). Kids and I will be driving on this summer trip and husband will be flying out from Tampa to meet up with us when he can, so lots of flying out of Tampa this summer. I'm not expecting to earn points to pay for those flights, though, we have points already for that.

-We have Southwest and like it.

-We prefer Marriott or Hilton.

-I have 123,000 Ultimate Rewards points and 152,000 Marriott points. My husband has over a million Marriott points, as well as some Hilton, Southwest, and I don't know what else (I have no idea what or how many). He tends to focus on Marriott since he has Lifetime Platinum status and we get great perks at Marriotts. We do like Marriott a lot.

-Our mortgage is paid off and we don't have any other loans. We have this summer trip coming up, but we plan on using that to meet our minimum spend on at least one card, possibly as many as three, depending on what the spend is (we can always pay for some other expenses as well). We also plan to travel to Europe (probably Italy or Germany) at Christmas if it turns out to be possible with covid restrictions. If not, we may do this in spring of 2022 if it's possible then. We plan on a trip to an all-inclusive resort outside of Cancun (Moon Palace) very early summer 2022. We also plan on an African safari in the spring or very early summer of 2023. This is all we currently have planned. If we're unable to do the Europe trip this winter or spring of 2022, we'd probably go for Christmas 2022.

-Travel party is myself, my husband, my daughter (currently 17), and my son (currently 13).

If it would be helpful to have the information about my husband's cards/points that I'm not currently aware of, I can get that later. I want to go ahead and apply for a card as soon as I can so I can start putting trip expenses on it. We need to buy camping supplies, one of those storage thingies that goes on the car roof, and a bunch of other stuff, as well as making reservations for hotels, airbnbs, and campsites.

Recommendations for cards to apply for?

Thank you!

Which Chase card do you have that is earning those Ultimate Rewards?

The best card out there right now is the Chase Sapphire Preferred. You'll earn 80K URs for $4,000 MSR , but I'm guessing you probably have it.

Yeah, I do have that. Thanks though!

Did anyone else take the Amex Everyday upgrade of 40k? I did it, and I got an email a few weeks back saying I was well onto my way to earning the 10k welcome bonus for spending $1k. The offer I clicked on was in my email and it was $2k spend for 40k. Do I just wait and see what happens? Contact Amex? I'm probably going to hit the $2k spend this month (I upgraded on 3/24).

I did that offer and got a you're on track e-mail, but it shows the correct 40k. Hopefully the 10k e-mail you got is just a glitch.

Yeah, I do have that. Thanks though!

When did you get it? Are you 4 years out from your bonus? Does you DH have either Sapphire product? Are you open to biz cards? Do you have any Amex cards? They could be helpful for international travel depending on your airline.

Welcome back!

This is not a card I normally recommend, but given your upcoming spend and travel plans, as well as not being a heavy churner, I would take a look at the Capital One Venture card. It has a 100K SUB (50K after $3K in 3 mo, 50K add'l after total of $20K in 12 mo) and just recently has improved its value proposition. FM had a good post on it yesterday. With your international travel plans, you definitely want a card with zero foreign transaction fee. I'm usually more of a Chase/Amex person, but I am considering this card for the SUB (haven't decided on it for sure though yet since it will push me to 6/24). Its advantage over CSP is the 2x on all spend, not just travel and dining. Cap1 does pull from all three agencies, but if you don't open cc on a regular basis like some do, then I don't think that's as bad for you as it would be for others who do more churning. Worth a look at any rate, especially if you or your DH are within 48 months of your last CSP SUB.

That's good to hear! I'm hoping Capitol One comes up with another good biz card deal like last year. It was a high spend but we have a business that could support it. The bonus was for 200,000 miles, and you earned an additional 110,000 miles just for meeting the spend since its double miles for each dollar. My DH, the biz owner, thinks I'm crazy for applying for different biz cards, but as his office manager, I see the benefit to travel. Most of our flights have been on SW and having the CP these last 3 years because of a biz card has allowed us to get free flights several times a year on SW. I love the flexibility with points too, as our United flights to Germany have changed already this year due to Covid. I'm still on the fence about what card to get next, the CIC or United Quest. I just spent $400 in a biz purchase at Office Max and had to use the CIP, but wishing I had the CIC now.
