I love credit cards so much! v3.0 (see first page for add'l details)

So I just got off chat. They asked what other card I was using to point out how many points I can earn with the Hilton biz on things other than travel. I then said "yes, but the points would be used for travel, which isn't happening much these days." So it was hard to justify the annual fee. Then I decided to straight up ask if they could waive the annual fee for a year.
She said she couldn't do that because it came with the card, but "because they value my loyalty" she could offer a $50 statement credit. No spend required. So I said ok to that.
I'm ok with basically now a $45 annual fee and hope it helps me with avoiding Amex pop-ups in the year to come.

DH has the same card and was going to cancel it, but of course was worried about getting a pop-up, too. AMEX just straight out sent him an email for the $50 credit when it was time for him to either pay the AF or cancel, so he kept it. Glad you were able to get the credit - I wonder why it didn't come automatically though. Well, whatever it takes to keep them happy!

Hi everyone, I asked a question a while back about chase freedom unlimited or discover it cash back. I’ve been doing some more research about what I can do with chase rewards. We live in the PNW so the best flight to MCO is from Alaska air. My question is, it seems chase doesn’t offer Alaska air in their rewards center and I’ve heard that you don’t want cash back because it doesn’t pay back much. So should I go with the discover card instead? It seems to make more sense to me, but I would appreciate some more experienced thoughts.

Does the focus have to be on a cash back card? I'd look at the alaska card. I do that same flight and while generally it's been 20k miles each way it can be had for less at certain times of the year.

It really depends on what your goal is as well. Alaska miles are hard to earn just using the card but they can have really good sign up bonuses and you get one companion pass a year. It's generally 99 plus tax for their ticket.

At the very least follow them on FB or twitter because they post all their sales there.

@afan that is a good thought. My worry is that eventually they’ll stop going to MCO, then I’ll be left with a card that doesn’t go where I want it to. Disney isn’t the only reason we fly to Fl, we also visit my brother who lives down there.

I can't imagine they'd stop since they've added the red eye and pre covid all their flights there and back are basically full. Delta had a redeye but scrapped it probably because of the AS flight. They are the two airlines I fly domestically out of SEA because they can generally get me there with 0 or 1 stop to the east coast.

The downside of the card is it's only churnable every 24 months from bonus but you get the companion each year at your anniversary and free bags.

It all depends on if you are only looking for cash to help with all vacation aspects or just want to cover flights.

They also have a biz card but it can be hard to get. And bofa's biz website sucks. But it's still one of the next cards I'll go for in the winter because I want the miles. I'll get it and cancel my personal and then sign up for it the following winter when I can get the bonus again.

I know I'm being super short sighted and sound crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about moving one county over to get my son in-person learning.

In credit card news, I earned more URs today at OD. Went to turn visa gift cards into MOs but Food Lion's computers were down so I need to go back another day.

Is anywhere running fee-free specials on prepaid gift cards right now? I want to try an experiment to cut down on impulse spending next month.

I won my Department of Transportation battle with United. 6 months after starting the battle they finally agreed with me and I will be getting back my UR points I used to book 2 tickets for my parents in First Class. Persistence paid off and they even apologized! More points to use to pay myself back.

Is the annual fee worth it? This would be my card. I just got a job within the last month. And I don’t really know much about annual fees on CCs.
Thanks for all your help.

Woke up to an approval email this morning! CIU is in his online account. Only a $3k credit line LOL, how are we supposed to meet the spend with that?
Can I payoff as we go, or does Chase frown on that?
From what I’ve experienced on new Chase Biz cards is even if you pay it off early the CL doesn’t reset until the cycle ends.

I tried to take advantage of Starbuck's free drink day (when you order a grande or larger from the app for in-store pickup). Tried to place order from my house -- the app couldn't find a location near my house (there's a large store less then 3 miles away). No problem, I will drive to the plaza as I need to pick up a few things from the grocery store. Sitting in front of Starbuck's, app still cannot find a location :headache::headache:. I call CS -- wait time is over 20 minutes, so I elect to have them call me back while I am shopping. Call comes and the CS tells me that they are "in the middle of a system update" and she is not able to access anything (why wouldn't they do this after midnight?). She suggests that I uninstall the app, then re-install; this won't work for me as I don't remember my password and don't want to deal with the hassle while I am grocery shopping. The rep says too bad, that's all that she can do "to help" :headache::headache:. After I have loaded the car with groceries I decide to try mobile order again; this time the app can find the location, but "order ahead unavailable" (I took a screen shot). How can this be since the entire premise of the promotion is to order ahead to earn the free drink? Rant over, thanks for listening!
Try chat on the website. I’ve had luck with them getting a credit when I had a bad drink.

It depends. The AS card af is only 75 so if you fly 1 round trip with two people and checked bags you've paid for it. Or 1 rt and a one way and you've paid for it yourself.

Even if you only kept it 1 year, the flights you wouldn't have to pay for combined with the checked bags more than make up for it. But only you know how you travel and if it's worth it.

If you only have the Chase Freedom Unlimited, points are worth 1 cent per point whether you book travel or cash out. You might as well get cash. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP), points are worth 1.25 for travel through the portal. With a Sapphire Reserve (CSR), they are worth 1.5. Points you accumulate on other cards can be moved to the card that has the better redemption. Points from other household members can also be moved to that card. You can also "Pay Yourself Back" at the elevated rates for restaurants, grocery, and home improvement through 4/30/21.

Currently, the CSP is at a high of 80k points for $4000 spend. Annual fee is $95.

Sad to hear you cancelled, but I understand. If only your reservation was a bit earlier, I may have taken you up on it...LOL.
Ah, that's OK. I see David's got the owner to agree to list the reservation for anyone who wants to go on short notice. Not very hopeful that someone will pick it up, but am OK with losing the cost. I'm over 55 and DH is over 65, we have a lot in life to look forward to. The second part of my trip that was moved from May to October is now on for Feb. I am very impressed with the person I connected with here on the DIS for that rental. She has been great.
