I agree with you. Dd graduated from a very well known private school in Fort Lauderdale with a 5.02 GPA, scored 5 on the calculus AP exam and 4 on the AP Chem exam, yet couldn't score higher than 1450 on the SAT. She is very, very bright and gifted in math, yet just doesn't take standardized tests well. She has taken the pre-entrance tests for her fall engineering courses (they have an engineering prep program) and scored near perfect on the calculus section. If she had scored higher on the SAT she would've applied to Cornell for engineering, but with a 1450 her college advisor said she most likely wouldn't get in (turns out that 15 kids from her school got in this year). Things have worked out perfectly and she did get accepted at her first choice with the largest scholarship they offer, so it is true that everyone ends up where they are supposed to be. Plus she will be only a 3 hour drive from me!
It sounds like she ended up at the right school and having her near by will be so nice! And she sounds like a very impressive young woman:)

I've got some orphan Bank of America points (about 20k). Any suggestions on how to use them. The best I saw was $.01 redemption for target gift card. Assuming nothing travel related, are there any sweet spot redemptions?

IMHO a 1450 is a great score. :)

ETA - those AP scores are also standardized tests, and they can help put the SAT in context.
For sure. She just couldn't crack the SAT though. I have no idea why. I am also not sure if they made the AP exams easier this year since they were only 45 minutes. Guess we will never know the answer to that!

I got into Cornell with a 1480 on the SAT. I think my husband had a 1380.

But this was 18 years ago lol. I hear college is way way more competitive now.

Senior year. 😞 I've wondered how college/universities are supposed to evaluate applicants since schooling is so altered right now. Of course they have more pressing issues with current returning and admitted students, but oh boy this is another headache. I have to doubt that SAT/ACT scores will be a factor in acceptances, because what meaning could they have given the variabilities in all the kids' schooling now?
My dd17 will be a senior this year too. A lot of schools are emailing her saying they won’t be requiring entrance exam scores, which I think is a great idea. Many schools had already been moving away from those anyways.

Well the last cancellation of the year hs finally come through. We had already cancelled our Ireland trip and got our URs back for Ashford Castle but had not cancelled the flights. We were waiting to see if British Airways would wind up cancelling them. They did and we will be getting our miles and taxes and fees back in full. They also extended our travel together ticket until March of next year. I highly doubt we will be able to use it though.

So sorry!

Ugh. It's so hard to watch all these amazing trips get cancelled. I'm glad you got your miles money back at least, but I know it's not ideal.

Were you headed to Australia too? Reminds I am still missing my AA points and need to call them.

We had booked first class and business class tickets to Japan on JAL using Qantas miles. Two of each outbound and return. The plan is to use them to book JAL again when we reschedule Japan, likely in 2022. But if we can’t use them that way, I see an Australia/New Zealand trip in our future! They are both definitely on “the list.”

Nice. I am trying to figure out if we’ll be rebooking for 2021 or 2022. We are waiting to see if we can carryover our annual leave since it impacts when DH retires. 9 days and we would have been on that Qantas flight having just enjoyed the Qantas lounge...

Monday Mom drove herself to my house for her morning walk. Monday night she called that she fell at home. SIL and I went to get her and brought her home to my house. That night I went to work and she was able to get herself back and forth to the bathroom. Last night she would call me and I would go with her to the bathroom. Then this morning she got much weaker. We took her to the hospital for a workup and got no obvious answers. Tonight it was taking 2 of us to transfer to bed. We could use a few prayers this way.😢

Yikes, for some reason I thought MSR on Surp was 2k. :surfweb: I've reworked bills and I'm a tad short. I should not purchase a Costco GC online, huh?

I set it aside to focus on grocery spend URs last month, then got too distracted with Disney this month. Actually, the grocery charge I just put on might push me over, but I'd like to spend more to be safe. I'm really glad I checked that tonight.

So sorry. I hope they figure out what it is!

DH and I decided to take Mon and Tues off then tried to figure out what to do. So we‘re off to Orlando to enjoy some pool time at Hilton Bonnet Creek. It was a steal and hopefully Diamond status will get us a sweet upgrade. If not, we’ll at least get breakfast for free. No parks in the plans just relaxation.
