Daughter made Marriott Plat while we were at the beach in Delaware. Today, her account reflected another 13 nights. This was talked about on here a couple weeks back, so I ran to my account to see if I had Platinum.

Well, nothing yet for me. I'll keep watching.

Has anyone else had an elite night jump?
DH got his, he's at 46 nights. We have a trip scheduled for the fall that add 5 night but I don't think that trip is going to happen. We have 1 night booked before we check-in to RPR - but still 3 nights short of Plat. We plan to go to Spain next summer but I'm not sure how much benefit we would get by trying to make plat.

There are 5 suite night awards for Plat. Not sure if that would work to get you a better/bigger room where you are going. I think it's a last minute request. Daughter was in Spain during her Plat time - I think.

I know she had it in 2018 up till I think Feb of 2020. Then she got it back in June. Not sure if she stayed in any Marriott's or not. But, even at a Courtyard we got a better room, free breakfast at one and a 'pantry allowance' of $20 at another.

Upgraded my fios. Was at 100/100 for $50. My options were 400/400 for $70 on gigabit for $90. Plus they have to come to the house and run a cable for $50. Going to try 400/400. Between wfh, xbox, ring cameras, Alexa, streaming, we needed to upgrade. Of course now between YouTube tv raising the price and upgrading internet I’m practically back to where I was before I cut the cord. But I like YouTube tv so much better.

Just checked and I am at 45 nights now. Hmm. Is it worth 5 cheap stays to hit platinum? If I actually thought we were going to be able to go to Hawaii in Jan, then yes. We have until end of the year for stays to count for status, right? Have to think about it.

I'm pessimistic about the value of the bump. I hit Platinum last year based on spend. That didn't qualify me for suite nights. I wonder if their gifts of nights will qualify. The breakfast benefit is very property dependent. Mostly worthless.

You have 5 and 1/2 months to get it. Good luck!

I haven't found an exclusion for this benefit, but there's a lot of reading to do!

I was reading this morning about getting bumped to another hotel and their ultimate reservation guarantee. This actually happened to me, and I took the bump instead of a room type change. They make it so you have to ask for compensation, and if I had known the rules, I could have gotten cash and points.

We got bumped 'up' in my opinion and I was happy to go.

I’ll have to look at the T&C for the benefits. Wondering if they spell it out like Southwest did when they gave extra Points for CP. Those didn’t count to use for flights, just counted to get you to CP. Off to read up on it.

We ordered from our favorite Chinese restaurant last night. Tomorrow we hit the overpriced gelato place. I’ve used the offer three times and dd has used it once.
I'm here to confess my stupid card failure of the week... :headache: SO stopped at a local farmstand, thought to myself' I'll use that amex for the credit'.... purchase amount was 8.49... I swiped... then remembered I wanted a tomato... brought it up,swiped card for another $2...:rolleyes1 drove home and mentally kicked myself. I hope to get on the ball sometime soon:sad2:

Found out today I have 21 bucks in a 401k acct I never opened at my old job. I knew I wouldn't make it to being vested and the pay was bad. But the company is changing to fidelity so I have to wait for them to either decide to send me a check because I don't meet the min or for them to have the acct so I can call to withdraw it and pay like 2 bucks in taxes for it, haha. So weird and random.

I have definitely picked up a lot of wishlist destinations & just overall good travel tips from this thread.

Since we can't plan any big summer travel, we are going here: https://www.pica-resort.jp/hatsushima/about/ It's basically an island that exists for people to feel like they went somewhere. Swimming, hot springs, barbecue that you cook yourself, all that kind of stuff. "Glamping" would be the term, I guess, since you stay in villas. We've never been before. It's really not our usual thing but it should be fun. DH is excited for the barbecue.

We'll probably go to an after-hours event at DisneySea in October. If you think what's going on with WDW/DL APs is a mess, I can make you feel really good about your situation.
  • Tokyo APs are currently invalid for admission
  • If you are an AP holder & want to go, you have to enter a lottery (we haven't tried yet... not dying to go back with everybody & his brother, in mid-summer)
  • The odds are never in your favor
  • Refunds/extensions will probably happen at some point but nothing yet
  • The site crashed for nearly 24 hours when single day tickets first went back on sale (WDW IT must be jealous; they aspire to this level of chaos & surely admire it in others)
  • All special events (Halloween, Christmas, etc) are cancelled until March 2021
I miss WDW so much. I hope things are okay by December of next year.

Thought about renting out our unused DVC points but decided to bank them instead. So many people seem to have gotten burned on both sides & I don't want to leave a renter holding the bag, nor do I particularly want to hold it myself.
We are thinking about what to do with our unused DVC points. We already banked the points from our cancelled trip this past March. We have trips booked for November 2020 and March 2021. I also booked a trip for one of our DD's for Feb 2021. If none, of these happen - the points expire Sept 2021. I know that is a long way off but we can't travel during the summer so if one of us doesnt go by March - I will need to decide to either rent or transfer to RCI.....

Here's a question..... I think this should work.... using the PYB feature on CSR to buy a gc at Home depot? yes? no? I was buying some stuff today when that occurred to me.... maybe I could top up my Amazon balance this way, altho IDK about them, the prime shipping is usually not 2 days anymore...maybe not worth renewing again

Credit card news for me - speaking of support - I did get some for my DD who was approved mid March for a CIP.
I just applied and was instantly approved for myself this am for a CSP. I used support from my DH who used a members link for his own CSP a couple of months ago. This was my first new card for me in almost a year! I still have an amex upgrade offer which I have until the end of July to decide if I want to do as well. I have tuition to pay so making the MSR isn't an issue.

OK, looking for advice. How can I optimize points for family trips (6 people) to Israel, Kenya African Safari, Australia, New Zealand, and SE Asia?

I fly out of SLC, but can get cheap/easy positioning flights to LAX and other western airports. Historically, flights from LAX to Australia, New Zealand, and SE Asia have gone on sale for as little as $300-$400/person in economy, so I feel like points transfers are difficult to justify. Also, with 6 people, using hotels internationally doesn't usually make sense because we need 2-3 rooms, so the points requirements gets really high when we can get an airbnb for pretty cheap, often with laundry. I want to use points, but beyond domestic destinations, I have not found a good way to use them for such a large family. I don't really understand AMEX MR and the cards with the most points usually require pretty high spend. However, I think it would be good to diversify beyond Chase. I have yet to MS beyond buying a few Visa gift cards at my local Krogers when on sale to top off spend when we had 2 cards that needed spend. I just used the Visa gift cards directly.

I feel like I could do way better at the points game, but just need some direction. Can you help?

We have a very old Bank of America CC, and we each did a previous round of SWA CC for the companion pass about 6 years back. Other than that, these are all our credit cards. We both have credit scores over 800 points and do not need a mortgage or other loan any time soon. We pay in full every month. We both have side businesses, so we can get business cards.

DH Current CC
05-17 Chase SWA Personal
05-17 Chase SWA Business
11-17 Chase Hyatt Old Version
04-18 Chase IHG Old Version
05-19 Chase Ink Business Preferred

My Current CC
11-17 Chase Hyatt Old Version
04-18 Chase IHG Old Version
10-18 Chase Ink Business Preferred
04-20 Chase Sapphire Preferred

Airports: SLC, LAS, cheap, easy position flights to LAX or SFO, or others on west coast.

I have a family of 6- Me, DH, DS-11, DS-9, DS-5, DS-3

Yes, I am Chase heavy, mostly because we used to live far from family and used the SWA companion pass and points to visit family across the country about 5-6 times a year. Now we live close to my husband's family. My family used to live within a day's drive, but they have since dispersed all over. I have decided to meet family for destination get togethers rather than just visiting a single person, since we all live so far away.

When we moved to UT, I found that while we had plenty of flight points via SWA, we were spending a bunch on hotels, so I got the Hyatt and IHG cards to get points and 4 annual nights annually. We got the Chase Ink Business because my brother was supposed to have his wedding in the Philippines this year, and I was saving up flexible points/ready to pay at 1.25/pt for a good airfare deal. That didn't pan out, of course, but I got the Chase Sapphire Preferred because we are remodeling our master bedroom & bath and wanted to put big spend items towards a new bonus. I plan to refer my husband next, so he can get the points as well.

However, I am not sure what to do going forward. We adopted 3 more children 3 years ago, so now we are a family of 6. Should I go crazy racking up as many points as possible and try for business class for everyone, or should I just be happy with economy class? We take up 6 seats, so usually 2 rows, which is a sort of poor man's business class of its own. Someone usually ends up on the floor during a long haul, and 2 people usually share 3 seats. It's not bad, but I still don't sleep!

Dream destinations: Israel, Kenya, New Zealand, Australia, and SE Asia - mostly Siem Reap, Myanmar, and Bangkok

Recent travel history, so you can see how I've used points in the past:
2019
Nov - (all 6) Kobe, Japan - visiting DH's parents for Thanksgiving using cash (forgot that I could have used UR points plus cash to buy them)
Oct - (all 6) San Diego Kids Free October for San Diego Zoo, Kids' Fall Break driving & using free night certificates from Hyatt CC
Sept - (DH & Me) China w/ DH on business - flat fee reimbursement paid for both our flights & my mom's to come watch our kids
July/Aug - (all 6) 5 week drive across the country to sightsee & visit family in MO & NH. Used Hyatt points to pay for Hyatt Places along the way using Hyatt/transferring UR points & stayed w/ family & friends
July - (DH & Me) visited my brother in Puerto Rico while my mom watched our boys at her house in the middle of our road trip. Cash Jetblue flight
Jan - (all 6) weekend night warm getaway in Hyatt Place Las Vegas to swim & eat at kids eat free buffet using Hyatt points.

2018
Nov - (all 6) Orlando, FL for Universal Studios - used SWA points for flights, parents paid for $150/nt 6 bedroom house w/ pool.
May - (all 6) Oahu, HI using flight credit from DH getting bumped & staying w/ friends
Feb-Apr - (DH & Me) Several day trips or overnight trips to LA using SWA companion pass & points, and occasional Hyatt points to do dumpling crawls
Jan - (DH & Me) Cancun, Mexico to use 4 free nights w/ Hyatt CC signups at the Hyatt Zilara All Inclusive, SWA points & companion pass to get there

your not looking to visit all of them in a single trip right? if you are, u should look into RTWs.
If not, if your looking more heavily into J class, i suggest looking into MRs. But in your case, for 6 tickets, as mentioned above, it may be impossible to find 6 J tickets on the same flight. Its likely to find 6 Y tickets though. I would stick with Chase URs. All your destinations will require some searching, if not, UR Portal is your next best option and redeeming at 1.5x with the CSR.

hi! new to this thread and apologies if this has been asked before and I was not able to locate the answer through my searches - but I am considering the Citi Prestige card and was wondering if the 4th night free benefit still applies to Disney World hotels? I was doing some research and came across some information that indicated Disney Resorts have been removed from this program and only Disney Springs hotels participate now. Does anyone know if this is true? thank you!

Checked my email this afternoon and boom! I was invited to pick my Platinum benefit. Lol. I was Platinum already but these nights allowed me to sign up for the suite night benefit. Good until 12/2021. Probably will never use them but you never know ! We got lucky at the JW Marco Island last year.

should still work.
it was Chase that removed the program. Citi should still be using the original program chase was before they switched to Expedia.
note: i could be wrong.

Is anyone here familiar with the WF biz plat? I purposely kept my WF checking for a year after the bonus so I'd be able to apply for this card. I was "conditionally approved." Just curious if anyone else has this card and what the timing is like for actually getting it. My DS just got accepted to college and that means I'll be spending some money, hopefully on this new card.
@happ

I got that card for P2 last month. I know some people got the conditionally approved message and were then asked for some "biz" documentation. Did you get an email for the next steps for your application? It would have a link to view your application and in there they would ask you to provide more documentation. My P2's application went through without any additional documentation required. Hers was "conditionally approved" and I would check the app status to see if there was a document request. After a day or 2, the card showed up in her WF account. Applied on June 3, got the card by June 10.
