I did find out (as I suspected) that quizzes and tests done while the kids are learning virtually won't count. Now I just have to keep that information from DS:)

W&M is giving students the option to designate any (or all) classes pass/fail. And they can wait till final grades post to decide. Not having to worry about GPA is an enormous relief for DD. I'm so impressed with how accommodating they've been. They've also said refunds of room/board are coming. Not sure how much, but grateful for that!

I *think* you can crack each egg into a baggie and freeze to use later for cooking....also my eggs keep much longer than one week in fridge, you should be fine.

The best before date is 4/13/20 so I'm okay. They will be eaten long before that. Like @striker1064 I need 'more' eggs. They seem to be in shorter supply in the stores.

I've thought that the $250 Chase Referral bonus is taxable. Does anyone know how true this is?

I got a 1099 INT from Fifth Third bank for a $250 bonus for opening an account with them.

But I cannot find online, nor did I get a 1099 INT from Chase. The December statement only shows 2019 fees and 2019 interest paid.

I think the 1099 was issued for over $600, but you still are required to report - that's me quoting someone else on here!

Nice to hear about the refund of room and board. I hate to sound like a whiner, but I also didn't pay for an online education. Half of my DD's education this semester is essentially being postponed. No word on how they will handle that yet. My DD was telling us yesterday they will go to pass/fail as well. My DD is the opposite of yours though, she's upset by that grading scale. She's very proud of her academics and was probably closing in on her sixth semester of straight A's but she understands the current situation.

I actually feel like the people who have a real beef are those that earned it LAST year. I think it would be a great move for SW to consider extending CPs that expire on 12/31/20 to 6/30/21 to make up for lost time.
That would be appreciated as I move vacations from this time frame into next year. With APs extended, in my mind I'm pushing my May vacation into Jan or Feb right now.

At these prices you aren’t whining! I’d want a partial refund too!

When I got back from vacation, all eggs in the store were gone. But I went to the sore in the middle of this week and there were eggs at both Giant Eagle (limit 1) and Meijer. Things are starting to get stocked back up, but not like normal yet at least here. Thankfully stores here are limiting in demand items - milk, eggs, paper products, meat - to protect us from crazies who think they have to buy it all. Meijer had lots of meat as well - limit 2 per item. I got sirloin, hamburger, and chicken breast. A clerk told me that some one tried to buy a whole cart of chicken. They stopped him and he was mad. Really, I get you might have a large family but come on. There is enough for everyone if we all just take what we need and follow the limits.

Here I go posting more vacation pics. The first one is where I was standing when I took the pic with the girls running to the little waves - on the deck/walkway from the Disney beach house. There is also a trail in the sand on the other side that has a long blue mat to walk on through the softer sand.

Sorry - sideways again! Anyway the 2nd pic is zoomed in for those who haven't visited my favorite beach! DD and I both decided this was our favorite beach in March and April - we don't care for crowds! In July it is indeed crowded and we go then sometimes, but to me July is for Ocean City, Maryland. In March in HH I am usually worrying that it will rain everyday - we've had that vacation here in the past. This week was beautiful for our 4 nights/5 days.

Southern Maryland Amish produce a lot of eggs. Perhaps a drive into the country might work right about now. I have friends down in Hughesville and Charlotte Hall. One used to bring eggs to sell to us at work - organic certified eggs.
I miss the Amish. There was a guy there that we used to buy eggs from all the time at the CH library. One day he ran out just as got there so he sent us to his house so his wife could gather some fresh for us. Those peeps are just so nice.

DD's college is doing the same and they can drop any class even though the drop deadline has long passed.

We did get not them for our credit card referrals with Chase, I can't tell from your post if that is the type of referral you are referencing. I had $400 worth and DH had $350. There would have been a 1099-MISC I think? I opted not to report them on my taxes. That is a personal decision. They [cc companies] are not obligated to report income less than $600. In my experience bank accounts get 1099's over $10 of interest.

Do you mean a bank bonus or a referral bonus for a credit card? Bank bonuses will generate at 1099-INT from Chase in the year it was received. If you didn’t get one report it anyway as we’ve seen Chase go back and audit and 6 months later say “oops here you go!”. Referrals will generate a 1099-MISC from Chase only if you earned over $600.

I think the 1099 was issued for over $600, but you still are required to report - that's me quoting someone else on here!

That clears it up for me. Thank you all! And sorry, my question was about Credit Card Referrals.
To summarize what I learned here:

For Banks:
  • I did get a 1099 INT for a bank account with some interest over $10
  • I did not get a 1099 INT for a bank account with less than $10 interest
  • I did get a 1099 INT for a bank account with only sign up bonus earnings (of $250)
For Credit Card Referrals:
  • I did not get a 1099 MISC because I had earnings under $600 (but should still claim $400 on taxes)
Thanks again for clearing this up for me!

Not CC related but the first bit of good COVID news I’ve seen in Europe. Only one town of 3k, but that’s one happy town! we have no hope of mass testing but maybe there’s hope for the quarantines working?

I work at a 500-bed hospital we are at about 60% capacity vs our normal 110% for this time of year.Feb\March are normally our busiest months of the year. No one is coming to the hospital. Maybe out of fear of being exposed??? We have a floor set up for Covid rule out cases. Most of the patients have cold-like symptoms and we still haven't had anyone test positive. No visitors are allowed in the hospital. I'm really enjoying that part of this. I'm expecting they will start canceling staff if this continues. I'm ok with that too. I'll be the first one to volunteer.

They still don’t care unfortunately. I’ve seen lots of people asking about how they can get around the public parking rules for the beaches. I’ve seen public businesses saying they won’t stop serving food in the restaurant unless someone comes to stop them

This is due to the chronic shortage of DUMBrellas in Florida. It's been pouring idiots for years and doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon. Yes, I am an exasperated Floridian. I just can't with the stupid in my state.

The library is actually what I was thinking about - the little buggies and horses tied under the trees! I was wondering if they would be out trying to do some sales.

I'm supposed to be in DC marveling at the cherry blossoms right now. I'm supposed to be falling in love with the Willard Hotel all over again. I'm supposed to have a reservation at Peacock alley for tea in 90 minutes. I'm supposed to have a DISmeet dinner at the Occidental tonight. Sigh ...

Last year, PlanePrincess and I were enjoying our travel hacking pinnacle. We were in the Maldives, staying in an overwater bungalow and soaking in paradise. This was just after our amazing stay at the Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa. FB reminded me that we had dinner at Ithaa, the underwater restaurant at the Conrad Rangali a year ago today. Some of you will remember these pictures from last year.

This year, thanks to the COVID outbreak and inspired by Marie Kondo, we will be exploring the uncharted territory of closets, drawers, shelves and bins to seek long forgotten treasure. Frequent excursions to the refrigerator to see what changes may have taken place are likely on the agenda. Here's to new adventures!

Please keep reporting as it is great to know there are pockets still with resources available. That is hope! Some as you have probably read are not so fortunate.

And if the people staying away are also not critical or infected, that's probably good, as it's my opinion that a lot of people run to emergency rooms for the slightest discomfort. (Sometimes me.)

I, like many on here live in a single family home in a community where there is space to social distance - I have a large back yard, deck, patio with yard space to walk and even run. It's the apartment dwellers and city confines that are most worrisome - how to stay away from others and still do necessary things like collect food and work, if required?

I believe that even without testing such as the one town in Italy from @gottalovepluto 's post, we can beat this with quarantine and isolation - stay home!

In retrospect, 2-3 weeks ago, it was hard to imagine almost 20, 000 US cases as of today. 3 weeks ago we were looking at very, very few. Johns Hopkins site lists 266 deaths today - I haven't cross verified this with any other site.

Johns Hopkins site is talking about this:

My son works in an emergency room in a county that has been hit hard with the virus. He says they were slammed last week (and now have 3 docs in quarantine). Yesterday, he said things were quieter as fewer people are coming in for non-emergencies.

We are hopefully going to Orlando in October and booked our outbound flights on SW on release day. The reservation still looks the same when I log in, but if I do a search, most of the flights have been cut and there are only 2 flights out (with various stops on their way to mco, for a total of 6 flight options). How does SW usually handle this? Will we automatically be assigned a different flight or will we get to choose? Of the 6 options, 4 of the have 2 stops and I really don't want to get stuck with one of those.

I would expect a lot of variance between cities and states. You see the same thing with the flu some states get hit harder than others.
