I have far less free time (which is why I haven; been on here in almost a week). Juggling the kids and work all day, and then in the evening making up work I didn;t do during the day and planning "home school" activities to keep the kids busy the next day (the structure is REALLY good for them). Plus we are home all day, so the house is getting messier and we won;t have our cleaning person (I am paying her, but don;t want the exposure).

I really envy the people who are home FT and can do all kinds of fun projects with the kids and clean out their closets! I could use some of that! (But also aware I am lucky o sill be employed - that may not be the case next quarter).
Same. Our department is closed but I’ve been reallocated at the hospital to help field virtual visits for the NPs of people suspected of covid-19. Once I’m comfortable with the process I‘m told I can work from home, but will still be tethered to a laptop. I’m grateful to have a job, but I would love to be doing some yard work or Spring cleaning. My husband is the one doing the homeschooling right now since he’s only working 2-3 hrs each morning.
I watched Contagion tonight. I suggest people who have anxieties DON'T watch it. I've seen it before but only remembered little bits of it. I have a copy of The Stand sitting out too that I was thinking of reading again. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. lol

My angry emoji was for the utter failure that testing has been in the US. It defies any logic. I've read excuse after excuse, but really there is no excuse for that. Some heads better roll for that.
I’m currently reading Station Eleven which is also about a viral pandemic. And yes I’m so ashamed with how the US has handled testing.
It's so hard. I have two super active, physical boys. They cannot sit inside all day.
My DS7 is the same. He’s like a caged animal just doing laps around the kitchen. We’ve been going on family walks and letting them ride their scooters, and I’d say most neighbors are good about the keeping a distance. I went out for a run yesterday and when I encountered others we would either cross to a different side of the street or stop and move aside to give space as we passed. I feel for these kiddos though.

Y’all, I’m legit worried about school closing for the rest of the year when parents are still expected to work. I get why they’re closing, but this Is not the 1950s where most households had one parent working. What is going to happen to the economy? We are making it work for the time being but I have no idea how we keep this up for 3 more months. Or worse...

Just got a message from my daughter. As of tomorrow, every employee entering work ( hospital) will have their temperature taken. A good idea, as it will limit contact if you’re just getting sick, although by that time, you’ve already exposed people.
Personally, I think they should also do it on the way out the door, and that other businesses should follow suit.

She’s pretty much resigned herself to getting sick at some point. Has seen multiple mess ups already with documentation and such , ie warning other health care workers that the patient has possibly been exposed to Covid-19.

I think one aspect of this whole thing that hasn’t been getting much attention is the mental health aspect. Social isolation for weeks on end is going to be a tough thing for many. And anxiety. Daughter takes public transportation to work, and she told me she got very anxious on the bus ride home yesterday. She does have a car available if public transportation stops, and the hospital has made $9 daily parking available. I say, cmon UPenn! If you want your employees to get to work safely, pay for the entire cost of parking. Parking is normally prohibitively expensive in Philly.

I am pretty sure DS will not be going back to school this year. He’ll complete it via virtual learning. Luckily, we are already to telework while the kids are out of school. (I don’t know if that will change if it’s 3 1/2 months though.)

it Is definitely a hardship for many though. I, sadly, think we are going to see an uptick in children being left home so their parent(s) can still bring in a paycheck.

When I got in tonight they've implemented a policy that no one other than dispatchers is allowed in dispatch (unless of course there's an emergency up here), which is a good move. No point having us all exposed to whatever patrol is being exposed to "on the outside" I suppose.

We have to ask our callers, when practicable and requiring in-person contact, whether they're experiencing certain symptoms

And if one of our employees calls out I have to ask them about that symptom also since our municipality wants to track expenses related to this thing.

On the plus side, I have a pickup order at Target for Coke Zero and Pop Tarts for tomorrow!

I don't think I realized you were a dispatcher. Your username makes sense now haha

Both of my dd's are super sweet and caring types. I really think if they could comprehend that their actions could be harmful to someone else, they'd stop immediately. It's just that this has never happened. Not in their lifetime and not even in mine. They can't see how their actions could impact anyone else if they are just getting together with friends all the same general age. It's something that is hard to really understand. And it seems we are the only parents trying to limit. Apparently, all other parents are fine with their kids getting together and going out. It makes it really hard. We had to have a very serious convo with dd17 and say, 'sorry, this is what we are going to do right now to help protect ourselves and others'. We are always the 'strict' parents and now, I guess we continue to be.

I don’t doubt for a heartbeat that your girls are wonderful. And I’m very sorry my friend if my message would have come off that way. I have probably obsessed about this virus more than the average person because of the changes my mother has gone through lately.

I read a nice analogy I now cannot find. A father explained it to his kids by comparing it to their local pool. He said imagine the pool was way over crowded and they knew there were people in the pool who weren't good swimmers and would need help, but it was impossible to see who they were because of the crowds. So they made half of everyone just get out so the lifeguards could find who needed help. The kids understood that they'd have to get out of the pool to help the ones who need saving.
Might not work for all kids but I can see how it would for some, especially depending on their familiarity with public pool rules. Figure it's worth passing on; wish I could credit the original.

My rapid reward points from my SW Premier Biz still aren't in my RR account (therefore no CP yet for me!). I had called Chase a few days ago, and they said they were transferred on the 11th. I called SW today and their rep was pretty clueless. At first she said my RR account doesn't update until the 6th. I said, no, this is for a different cc. Then she said well, basically, she couldn't do anything, because Chase hadn't sent them yet. I thanked her and hung up and called Chase back. The Chase rep was very helpful, she put in a request to their marketing team to manually transfer the points, and that I should see them in a few business days. Fingers crossed! I have more speculative bookings to make! I keep pushing them further and further out...

My dd and all her friends were there Sunday night. She doesn't get it. None of the kids this age seem to. My dd17 is doing remote high school and college and all activities are cancelled. Her phone is blowing up constantly with kids wanting to hang out, go to the park, go wherever they still can, etc. It's driving me nuts how they just seem so oblivious. When I try to explain what the effort is here and how we are all playing a part in preventing the spread and that the sooner we get control of this, the sooner we can get back to normal life, she looks at me like

That's for you, @SouthFayetteFan
We got word yesterday that DS’s university was closing dorms (they’d already gone to no in person classes for the rest of the year). We brought DS home last Friday, but he hadn’t completely cleared out his room. So after dinner last night, DH and DS drove the two hours to campus to just get it done. When they got home, DH said that it was quieter than usual (many kids already home) but those that were there were still congregating, sometimes in large groups. It’s hard for them to get it. Heck, it’s hard for many of the people I talk to to get it. My prayer is that enough of us are understanding the value of social distancing that it makes an impact.

My trip To WDW is booked for April 16-26. I know it’s not going to happen, but I’ve been planning it for two years so it’s really hard to pull the trigger on cancelling. My travel agent told me I now don’t have to pay in full until 7 days before and can cancel 1 day before and still get a full refund. So I’m waiting and hoping for a miracle.
Same here, my trip is scheduled for the 18-21, holding out to cancel until I absolutely have to.

@Judique @platamama @PolyRob I am with you all on the crazy things you may see in restaurants. Some people just do not think about safe handling. And honestly, I did not when I started my food service job at 16. I worked at a Noodles and Co and our management was anal about that though... wash hands before leaving the register to do anything with food. Wash hands if you bussed a table. Washed hands if you brought one dirty dish back after running a tray of food. Change sanitizer bucket water every 2 hrs (that was the requirement) but more like 30-60min during busy times. New gloves, new gloves, new gloves! All the time. About the only things we were allowed to switch between without hand washing was running out a tray of food and rolling silverware. I think the open kitchen environment made a big difference, and my GM knew that and beat it into us. She was a great manager too, often times she was the one clearing tables or changing out all the sanitizer buckets and rags for us when we were busy. Now I see things all the time that just make me 🤦‍♀️

:sad2:My boss changed her mind in less than 10 hours yesterday about working from home. At first we were coming in until the city or building said we couldn't anymore. No big deal and I was happy to do it - we're a small office and I don't have to take public transit to work. Then she went home, watched the news, and texted me at 9:30 last night to say we should remote in after today and move all in-person meetings to phone conferences. I'm still going in tomorrow and it'll be just me and one other person - someone has to manage the mail and pay bills that come in and send letters to clients. I also have to gather whatever files and notes I need to try and convert my hobby room into a home office. My goal is to be able to do 90% of my job from home by the end of the week and then be able to minimize time at the office. One day at a time.

Now I'm just nervous we're going to be swamped with people wanting to update all their planning at once and we will have to say no to scared people or put ourselves at risk to conduct signings. Or worse, we'll be hit with a bunch of new probates to handle, and the courts won't be open yet :(

And my CIU app is still at 30 days. I've only checked once since I applied Saturday night!
You sound like you’re handling what your boss should be! Whatever you’re getting paid- it’s obviously not enough!!

Thinking about all the DVC points returned (from the virus and hurricane). Once things open back up, won't this make DVC bookings 10% fuller, thus harder to get (assuming a little over 1 month of closures), if that is even possible?

And similarly, I guess the parks will be somewhat fuller (but less than 10%).
I totally agree with this. If you are thinking of a trip this year, or next, DO NOT delay at booking it. Reservations will be harder to come by.

My WDW refunds are rolling in!!! About $160 back to my JetBlue card which dropped me below that MSR from months ago so I just threw that same amount on my cable bill. It looks like I will have about $2,000 - $2,500 between Citi and Chase when it is all said and done. I think I will request checks to get my negative balance back 😞
I had a refund and Amex offered to send me the money via ACH to my connected bank. Money showed a day or two later. Maybe Chase or Citi can do that?

(Normally with Amex it’s a better move to send the credit to a card with a balance but that’s wasn’t going to work for me this time.)

Yeah, I think that is a concern. I'm wondering if they can pull from cash rooms to help fulfill the dvc bookings. Is that a possibility? I'm a newer member and I just don't really know how this all works.
They will not do that. Two totally different buckets.

On social distancing...DD is going to a friend's house so they can do homework together (they go to different schools but both have papers due this week, so it's moral support). I do not think this is a great idea, but she is driving me insane so I agreed.
