I've been following the campus closures--so far neither of my kids' schools is closing but I think it's just matter of time. From what's happened so far, I don't think what your daughter does or doesn't do matters--the concern is that students in general are traveling and possibly bringing back the virus. I'm pretty sure that the universities that have closed have not made individualized decisions based on whether a student traveled or not--they are just closed for all students (or classes canceled--some are staying open but not having classes meet in person, others are closing altogether).
A lot of colleges in the NYC area have closed and/ or gone to online classes.
The governor just shut down a school district in Westchester where a lot of the cases are for 2 weeks and called in the national Guard
my SIL who is a scientist feels he and the NY media is blowing everything out of proportion but I feel sure there are going to be more closings

So, I'm wondering when the hotel fire sales are going to start at Disney? Universal sent me an email for 40% off.
I've seen a few reports of prices going up at Disney :(

So far only movement seems to be increased availability close in (just seemed to start yesterday for me trip a week out) but it is including AP rate rooms opening up. Snagged an AP rate for my Mar trip yesterday. I've been watching for an AP rate every day for the last couple months and never saw one on that room until yesterday.
Anecdotally, there is now availability at multiple WDW resorts for this Friday. I've been watching availability for several weeks to see if I could snag a value room, as only campsites and deluxes were available when I first started looking. (I ended up booking that Hyatt Place just outside Disney Springs last week.) Music, Sports, Pop, and Little Mermaid rooms at AoA are available for Friday, as well as all the moderates! Edit to add---and now the family suites at AoA are available when they weren't yesterday.

The MK fireworks dessert parties were sold out for weeks. Yesterday I noticed space (for our party of 6, no less) for both the before and the after party, but not the seated Tomorrowland Terrace party! I'm considering booking. Having the party would help with dd's crowd anxieties and would make viewing so much simpler.

She has some accomodations, but distance learning has never been an issue so I don't even know what they can do. I will try.
Good luck! You might be surprised at what is available for distance learning. If your DD's school offers online classes, they *should* already be set up to provide the full range of accommodations to allow students with disabilities to take the online classes. Whether they can actually scale them up to the entire student population with no notice is, of course, another question. But disability services can hopefully at least provide options and serve as an intermediary with DD's professors.

I would like to know this also.
I’ll tell you we did some travel related stocks. Mildly panic inducing but felt strongly about it. My parents coincidentally made the same investments this morning. My dad made a lot of money off buying up Ford in 08. Just not sure if I am missing other opportunities or if I’ve made a mistake. This is my first time investing outside my 401k and ESPP.

Anyone else buying stock? Is there a plave people are discussing that on dis thats not as insane as the community thread? Lol
I would like to know this also.
Stocks are being discussed on the Budget Board under the "Taking a beating in the stock market" thread. While OP started it like that is has morphed into a market discussion.

I booked a jetblue flight with chase UR for disney trip in July. It's non refundable. They just changed the flight times of the return flight. Does that mean I can cancel without a fee now? I'm not sure I want to cancel yet, but I would like to know if it's possible without losing any points. My disney booking is refundable, so I would only lose the points of the flight.
I'm trying to see if I can delay the trip for a motnh or two without changing the total cost. Or maybe even reducing the total cost now that things should drop in price? But I don
t see anything cheaper yet.
Maybe. Call Chase and find out if you can cancel it due to the schedule change. You'll have to be patient, it takes a while when they're busy.

If Chase says no you can always try JetBlue. This happened on a UA flight for me a couple years back and UA gave me a voucher for future travel for the price of the flight. JetBlue can't give you cash or URs but maybe they'll have an option that will work for you.

Super excited to find that Spirit was allowing you to cancel flights for a voucher, due to the virus. I have a trip scheduled for late April that my nephew and sister were supposed to go on, but due to some issues they weren't able to go. My brother and sister-in-law decided to go, but I was still stuck with flights that were no good as Spirit doesn't allow you to change names on already purchased tickets :(. But I called and spoke to customer service who cancelled all the flights I had scheduled and issued me vouchers that can be used during the next six months. This works perfectly as I have a Disney trip scheduled for September as well. Keeping my eye out for some amazing flight deals, prices are coming down, but I know they can get better so we will see.

I noticed availability increasing for DVC rooms around Easter. Not a huge amount but some nice stretches like 7 nights at Poly and lots of SSR availability. There were quite a few 1 bedrooms but not in my league right now as I've only got a possible 55 points to work with. Also no fear of me losing these points as my bank date is end of May and use year is October plus nothing in holding. Earlier this use year I'd created holding points but then used 165 at Hilton Head for my 6 nights in a 2 bedroom. It's so easy to spend points.

I remember that several people on this board booked Delta Vacation packages with Disney tickets and also bought the Delta Vacations insurance, then cancelled the package to get a Delta Vacations voucher. When you cancelled, what happened to your Disney tickets? I seem to remember that some people had their Disney tickets disappear from MDE after cancelling - were you able to get them back? Did anybody cancel one of these packages, get a voucher (for package price minus Disney tickets), and have your Disney tickets remain in MDE?

I booked one of these packages for a trip to WDW this June. It was a bit complex, and involved us flying into MCO and out of Hilton Head a couple weeks later. The plan is to visit WDW, then drive from Orlando to Hilton Head, where my parents are going to watch my DDs while DH and I fly to Seattle for a separate trip (the Seattle trip is separately booked on AA). DH and I then fly back to Hilton Head, and all 4 of us fly home on Delta Vacations flights.

My parents are both very high-risk due to age and underlying medical conditions, so I'm thinking there is a possibility where I won't be comfortable with the Hilton Head/Seattle portion of my trip, even if this has mostly died down by then. No immediate plans to cancel anything, but I am starting to muse over options if I do want to cancel down the road.

A lot of these Governors (politicians) are just in over their heads. Whatever they do will be second guessed and they will be wrong according to whoever is inconvenienced. Hopefully their decisions will actually save lives.

The media - ours is 24/7 on the subject. Good in that it may bring more awareness, scary to some of us, and we do get annoyed all out by them, but we have the freedom to at least have a media that can try and tell us things.

What weighs on my mind is that my daughter (and about 30 more friends and relatives) was in Hong Kong, Macau, Cambodia, Bangkok, and never heard anything about coronavirus, but we already knew here and airports had begun to scan people in New York and Lax before she returned. The people that were first at risk had little to no knowledge of what they were facing.

I had my tickets disappear from MDE. I was able to get it back after calling Delta Vacations. Was told that they can put some code into the system so the tickets don't get canceled. But there were other posts here that made me question that. If you decide to cancel, I'd call instead of doing it online (which was what I did). See what they say. If possible, I'd think it would be safer/less hassle if you changed the date instead of canceling outright.

Thanks. Changing the date is definitely something I will consider too if I get to it - but I'm thinking that changing airports and dates might be cost-prohibitive with extra fees attached. Another option I'm considering is booking a WDW trip for the week BEFORE the Delta Vacations trip, using the tickets, then cancelling. They're already in MDE, and I converted them to date-based tickets. The theory here is they can't take away what has already been used... but I wonder if there will be repercussions.

That sounds like a good plan. The refund wouldn't include the tickets anyways, so I don't see anything wrong with it. But the whole tickets getting canceled thing is weird, so I guess I can't say definitively.
