Actually now they’re tracking it coming slightly more west. I have a really bad feeling it’s gonna hit us right at Melbourne. It wasn’t supposed to rain at all today and right now it just started pouring with winds. I’m already scared
It's obviously a lot to process - if you're scared and you feel it would be better to head west, don't be afraid to spend money to ease those fears. I probably wouldn't go full out expensive resort...but your safety is important and your fears are not unreasonable in my opinion.

As @afan said - you have a little more time to process everything so keep taking in all the data and figure out what the best answer is for you guys!

I just don’t want to wait too long and leave when everyone else is. I’d love to only spend the AP price of $100/night at a value but I think I’d like access to the lobby just in case which is why I was looking at AKL.

And now I’m hearing sirens. That’s always good lol

A studio at AKL Jambo is showing up now for $246/night that wasn’t there before. We’ve actually never stayed in a studio before at wdw. I’m tempted to book that but we really won’t know for sure what we want to do until tomorrow morning. There’s always movies for $91/night but I do think I would want the interior hallways

DH's Bus Amex Plat annual fee just posted and I have been nagging him to cancel. No way are we getting $595 value from the card, especially not with the airline fee not working on GC now. He is going to check for a retention offer. This doesn't make me hopeful! He's very skittish about churning and I think he is afraid to cancel.
I can't make the AF on the Platinum personal or biz work for me. I would need at least a 100k offer to pull the trigger on one of those. I'd still have to cancel after a year. I like my Gold. The AF is worthless, but the 4 points on grocery's and restaurants fit my spending habits. I'm hoping for an increased SuB on the blue biz card.

Given that the hurricane doesn't appear like it will pass directly over Orlando, should that perhaps change your thinking on the values? I'm not saying that's right or wrong, just throwing it out there. What is Universal doing about cats at this point? Some of their less expensive resorts are interior hallways.

I‘m working on planning a last minute trip to LA for September 23-29. I’m going with my sisters and we’re trying to decide what to do while there. We were thinking a day at Disneyland. I’ve never been to DLR. Would 1 day be enough or should we plan on 2?
Any other tips on visiting LA?

If you're planning to see both DL and DCA then you probably want 2 days. It's hard to give solid advice on that as people tour differently. I couldn't imagine going back to Disneyland without devoting 4-5 days to the parks personally :)

What about one of the Universal resorts. Even the values have indoor corridors. I haven't tried the new ones, but I've stayed at Cabana Bay a few times. It has everything I would need if I was holed up due to bad weather. A gym, food, and bar.

I’m not ruling anything out with this storm. I’m not completely convinced it’s going to turn north. I haven’t checked into universal much. I do know they’re sold out on the chase portal.

So part of me is frustrated at the airport announcement and such for the travelers most definitely.

One thing I liked about them acting early was for the employees - it game them some clarity about when their duties would be relieved so that they could be home and take care of their needs and their families. Perhaps they could have communicated that differently though without causing widespread panic and changes among all of their passengers until absolutely necessary.

Lots to process there...

I originally only looked at universal resorts on the chase portal and they were all sold out. I’m not sure what they’re doing about cats right now. I’ll try to find out online

ETA: I’m not really finding anything for universal. Disney I can find with a quick google search but not universal. I really don’t want to call them tomorrow

With MaxPass you can see the highlights of Disneyland in one day with a parkhopper (not cheap FYI and there are no discounts). Personally I like a nice long afternoon break and a minimum of 3 days. Best is 4-5 days, there are so many details at DLR! But if this was my only chance to see it for a few years I would absolutely do even just one day. Prioritize the stuff WDW doesn’t have/are different. (Except Grizzly Rapids. I adore the ride but “drenched” is definitely a possible outcome and with one day you don’t have time to deal with that.) If you can get your sisters to spring for 2 days I’d try for that! FYI during non summer/holiday times Fantasmic & fireworks only run Fri-Sun if that’s of interest to you.

Honestly I think they screwed up completely. Employees who thought they’d be home to tend to stuff are now finding out they won’t be... MCO jumped the gun. They fixed it -which does take something to admit you were wrong- but they done goofed.

"Hurricane Dorian has changed its path and has proven to be an unpredictable storm."

I love how this means that now, without a doubt, MCO is out of the path of the... unpredictable storm.

Mess.
I thought it was strange that they didn't leave it up to airlines to decide if they wanted to cancel flights are not. Those of us that fly frequently know it doesn't take much weather for delays and cancellations to occur. I guess they were thinking about the safety of airport employees?

Yeah - what I was more saying was they could've communicated internally that if the track doesn't improve they would take that action. Also, setting a hard time so early was an odd call - especially when the storm was reported to slow down very shortly after that.

That said, I do appreciate them trying to get ahead of it vs. last second communication which leaves employees scrambling potentially.

Friends of ours stayed at Royal Pacific with their dog & cat during Irma. I think they said there is normally a fee, but it was waived.
