How do people here feel about this Star Wars hotel experience? My initial concern is not seeing actual daylight or breathing fresh air for the majority of a 48 hour period...haha.
I just don't get it. I have a feeling they will regret spending the money on this. The cost is astronomical, so most families won't ever stay there. The ones that do will likely be a one and done type thing. I can't recall where I saw the price, but I just thought, wow, we could do a week cruise on DCL for that. And judging by the fact that just about every room type at every resort is available on AP rate for Labor Day week, leads me to believe Star Wars isn't that big of a draw, like I have been saying all along.

Rumors are Tomorrowland, Toontown, and Hollywoodland are getting some much needed love and money in coming years.

ETA - I’d link the story but apparently it’s censored. Lol

Kind of makes sense that TDA would turn their attention to these three lands once Avengers Campus is complete and opens next year. Toontown is looking shabby these days and Tomorrowland has no coherent theming anymore and is a mishmash of franchises that don’t mesh well together, e.g., Star Tours and (Hyper)Space Mountain, and Toy Story with Buzz Lightyear and Pizza Planet, Finding Nemo Subs right next to gas guzzling Autopia sponsored by Honda?; and abandoned or neglected spaces, e.g., Peoplemover/Rocket Rod’s tracks, Innoventions, which had this cool Avengers walkthrough and meet and greet, which turned into Star Wars Launch Bay, which is basically now a glorified Star Wars gift shop that barely anyone visits anymore because they’re off in Batuu.

The only other rumored development I’ve read about in recent years is a version of new Fantasyland for Disneyland. However, I really love the storybook village feel around the carousel and dark rides, but maybe TDA could reimagine the space between the Matterhorn all the way to It’s a Small World and Fantasyland Theater.
Omg I want to gag every time I see WDW’s Fantasyland so LEAVE. OURS. ALONE. (the irony that I’m currently a WDW AP holder is not lost on me!) ....well... I wouldn’t object to replacing one of the dark rides with a Tangled themed dark ride (But if they replace Toads please keep those cushy cars. My rear looks forward to that ride by the end of trip :rotfl2: )

Honestly, while I’d love more I think we’re getting enough love for 2 years. MARVEL LAND!!!!!!!!! ...I’m SO excited about this. Literally grinning from ear to ear thinking about it. I liked the bone they threw to DLR with the Mickey & Minnie train as “something new” type announcements. Perfect for Toon Town. What do you want to bet it has longer lines the summer after it opens than Smuggler’s Run did?

The "Site who shall not be named" shared this earlier this week:
  • 2-night/3-day stay starts at $3,300 for one person, or just over $1,000 per person, per day. Cabins do sleep up to five passengers, so there’s also the option of maxing out the cabin occupancy for a relatively cheaper price per person. A cabin with five passengers would cost $7,200, or roughly $1,440 per person
That is just steep (they stay 3 days but in today's presentation Disney was referring to it as 2 days, and based on check-in/check-out times I bet you it is < 48 hours)... I'm not sure how they're figuring the math but we're talking over $6k for a family of 4. It seems like there's a base charge for the room then a per person charge on top of that... They could be way off base with how it extrapolates, but regardless, it seems on the surface like a family of 4 won't be spending less than $5k to experience 2 days here and that's a tough pill to swallow...especially when I start to break it down by the hour and realize how much of that time might be spent eating, sleeping, showering and doing other basic necessity things :rolleyes1. Our dream Disney World trip costs < 40% of that per day...

Just got an email from Boxed with this subject:
  • hi hi hi!!! BESTWEEKEVER 🤗 Up to 20% off + FREE Snuggle Bear →
Ummm... What is that?? Way to make it look like spam...or at best very unprofessional... 🙄
Ok...I'm a fool...I have now opened the email because of this strange subject line, and am actually looking at the promotion and it's decent. I have been played. I think I'm headed to the shun corner for a 2nd time today now... :lmao:

yes, that is the pricing I saw! I bet the pricing is like on a cruise where Guest 1 and 2 are the most and then 3,4,5 are discounted.

UGH, yes, money. I will also want a personality chip and that $39.99 backpack is cute! The thing is my mom saw a video online and now she wants one 😂 so I think we may each need to build one 🤑

How long did the whole process take? I am curious how I should stagger the appointments.
Thanks! I think I want the appointments at the very end of the night because I do not want to lug the droids on say... RnR 😂 I plan on actually enjoying the land and going on the ride during EEMH so this workshop would be an add-on to some rides and Fantasmic!

A few thoughts:

- If there’s no line, or you have a reservation and they get to you quickly, it shouldn’t take much more than 20 minutes. You pick your parts off a conveyor belt, snap (and if R2 unit, screw) them in place, and the CM activates your droid and pairs it with a remote.

- The box they give you to carry your droid in is bulky and the top lids are very flimsy, so a backpack is not a bad idea.

- A $40 backpack tho!

- Nonetheless, the backpacks sold out, and continues to keep selling out at Disneyland’s SWGE.

- The personality chips also sold out during the reservation period and I think are just coming back in stock.

- One pro in favor of building your droid earlier is the droids are supposed to interact with SWGE. There are Bluetooth (?) signals all over the land that triggers reactions with the droids as you’re walking through the land.

- One con against building your droid earlier is you’re not allowed to drive/roll your droid around the land. In story, I guess they’re contraband. But practically, if a CM sees you rolling around your droid in the open, they will come up to you and tell you to put them away. We saw this happen to a father and son who were playing with their new droids in an emptyish area as we were lining up for the Millenium Falcon. My wife didn’t understand what was going on, and I told her, and she said that was so stupid of Disney. Guests spent $100 on a droid they can’t even play with in the park, and Disney didn’t think to set up an area where people could roll their droids around.

- I think the First Order Depot is set up to hold your merchandise while you explore SWGE.

I feel the same way. I'd much rather take a cruise or do something else if I'm spending that much. I seriously wonder if they can keep people interested in it at the price they are charging. Sure, some people might jump at the chance, but long term how many people really want to pay for this?

I honestly never stepped foot into Toontown before I had a kid. And then there was this period between about ages 2-5 when DD just loved Toontown and had to visit every trip and wanted to play in the playground with the other kids, then explore Mickey’s house and Donald’s boat, and I realized Toontown serves an essential purpose for families with really young kids. I’m glad it’s not going to be demolished for another Franchiseland, getting some TLC and a new ride, even if my DD has mostly aged out of that land.

Bwahahahahaha! I’ll take that $6k and spend a week splitting my stay between a theme park view room at the Grand Floridian and a savanna view room at AKL, thank you very much, and enjoying everything else WDW has to offer.

My younger son is 12 (gosh, 13 in a couple months!) and while he doesn't spend as much time in TT as he did when he was younger, he still loves to go in there. He just has a "young" streak and gets a kick out of the fireworks crates and such. I'm with you- never went in before I had kids.

Thank you for all of the information! I decided to abandon the Fantasmic! FP+ because I have seen it so many times and have it planned for December too. I made a 6:45pm and 7:30pm reservation for the Droid Depot and DHS closes at 10:00pm. I figure we can take pictures and explore SWGE at night afterward. After posting about the backpacks I was Googling things and did see it was extremely popular. I am trying to figure out what the 6 personality chips are so I can determine which we really want. I guess I will have to look for the backpack, personality chips, and Spira GC first! LOL I had no idea about the First Order Depot. I will have to check it out as a storage option. That is crazy that Disney doesn't let you play with the droids in the actual land! What could the reason be, theft or damage?! It really makes no sense, especially if it wasn't in a crowded area. I guess I will have to play with them back at the Beach Club. I still want to try and get some rides in and since we are right by TSL I will look for a TSM or AS2 FP+. I think we can secure the Droids on those rides. Rollercoasters seem like they would be dangerous. I will save RnR and ToT for EEMH the next day. That is the current plan, but I can never leave my trips alone so it will probably be tweaked a few more times 😂

The Droid Depot has a station near the personality ships where you can hear audio samples from the different chips. My wife said some of them sounded creepy. She went with one of the Resistance chips.

During our recent trip to Disneyland SWGE, we were able to find the Spira GCs at Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities and the Resistance Supply kiosk. During the reservation period, we bought the Spira GCs at the Droid Depot.

Just checked, and yeah, at least in Disneyland, the First Order Cargo shop will accept your lightsabers and other large packages and send them to the front gate for storage, where you can pick them up with your receipt when you’re ready to leave. (ETA I think I read drop off has to be before 5 pm though.) I hope they do something similar at WDW.

I really hope they have a good selection of personality chips when I take my son in October. Since I no longer have an AP, it's not as though I can just go back and look for one any time! Thanks for the tip on the audio samples. I poked in there just to get the Spira GC's in June but that's pretty much all I did in Droid Depot.

Thank you! We can pass the time listening to them. I will pop in and out of all the different shops for a Spira GC. I know loading it with $100 isn't the best deal, but it really looks cool! I will love paying off my resort room charges with it trip after trip. It would be great if WDW offered the same service. WDW ships back to resorts so I am hopeful!

We now have 4 coins holding our Disney vacation fund. :rotfl2:

DW loves handing her coin around the parks to pay for everything. Surprisingly, some CMs still don’t know what it is and express shock then awe like “that’s so cool!”

I love it!!! If there is plenty of inventory I will make my family get them too 😂

That is so funny! I am honestly shocked Disney isn't charging something like $5.95 for the card on top of the $100 load.
