I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Sorry to be so slow to respond. Just getting slammed at work today, so I'm pages behind... Anyway, it was a really positive experience. He was great about answering all of my questions and was proactive in staying in touch as my booking dates approached. I wouldn't hesitate to use Juicy or another reputable booking service again in the future if I had a particularly complicated redemption or a *must have* that I was afraid I'd mess up or not be able to get myself. In this case, it was absolutely worth using the service since I was literally flying on both dates that our 360-day booking windows opened. (For the outbound flights to Japan, I was in the air on my way to Johannesburg, and for the return flights to the U.S., I was in the air on my way to Paris.) He did email me before booking the return flights just to make sure nothing had changed, but I wasn't able to respond since I had no Internet in Botswana and then was flying. But he went ahead and did the booking anyway based on what we had previously discussed. The only personal information I had to give him access to was my Qantas account so he could use those miles to do the booking and credit card info for him to pay the taxes/fees. (I monitor my credit cards pretty much every day anyway, so I could see that he wasn't doing anything funny with my cards. Plus, I know Chase is really good about dealing with fraudulent charges.) I did the MR transfer prior to leaving for Africa, so he had no access to my Amex account. I think I mentioned previously that he was a little concerned that Chase would want me to verify use of my card to pay the taxes/feees by confirming a text message code or something similar when they saw an attempted charge in foreign currency that I probably wouldn't be able to get while in the air. If all else failed, he offered to pay the taxes and fees with his own credit card and have me reimburse him, which I thought was an awesome *above and beyond* service. But it never came to that. I gave him card info for both my CSR and Platinum so he'd have a backup if one failed, Then I PM'd both Chase and Amex giving the heads up that I'd be paying taxes/fees on award bookings and that the charges might be in foreign currency. Assume that helped because he was able to charge my CSR both sets of taxes/fees without any issue. Our total taxes and fees for all flights was $1,127.40 (plus 640,000 MR). Totally worth it to me in this case to pay the additional $200 per person for him to do the bookings. So all in cash, including the Juicy fee, was $1,927.40. Total bargain in my mind for 4 round-trip *upper class* seats. Not quite as good as you on the points, but I had accrued those MR specifically for this purpose and was prepared to use more, so all good in my mind.
Wow, that is above and beyond. For hard to get tickets like JAL where they only release 2 of each (that was my experience in tracking for a long time) those 5 days advantage could be key--I'd definitely pay $200 PP for that. It could make the difference of leaving on the day you want or not. Total bargain in my mind, too, when you add up what those tickets would have cost (or what you'd typically pay for business seats). Great resource to have and so glad it worked out well. I'd definitely consider using a booker for something important like that where you can't access the computer yourself, and you know if you wait they'll be gone.

For the AmEx cardholders who have Uber Eats credits: Hooters is offering $0 (service) fee (can't remember exactly what type of fee it was, and it's deleted) today in honor of National Wing Day.

I normally eat AT Hooters for the atmosphere, but it might taste just as good at home?
.
Now why would I want Hooters delivered??? Thats no fun :stir:

I remember liking their fries but it's been years since I've eaten at one. Not a wings fan but if they aren't as good at home I'm sure you could find some of their commercials to watch and help with the atmosphere :rotfl::rotfl:

The curly fries!! I always get it with cheese sauce. I do like their wings though but we have a fryer at home and they are better.

That reminds me ... Did anyone ever fly Hooters Air?

Take that Bonbon, I got un-bonvoy'd :)

I don't remember how much I shared or where i left off and too tired to go look. I gave the manager 48 hours to get back to me after I told him that a single King room would not work at Holiday Inn. Not hearing back from him, I send a general email to Marriott basically telling them how displeased I was and that I simply needed to know if they were going to do anything or I should frantically looking for other accommodations. I may have threatened to cancel my Bonvoy Biz card since I've nothing but issues with the Marriott brand this year :rolleyes1 The next morning I got a reply from Marriott asking for more details and within an hour I had a reply from the manager that he was working on it with Holiday Inn.

Today I received another message from him. HI is giving an accessible room with 2 Kings and 2 rollaways. That totally works for me. Now I'm just waiting on my confirmation from HI.

I also got a letter in the mail from Cheesecake Factory today. I reached out them via email after one of my $10 GCs was empty. A manager called last week and I missed the call. Anyway, they were apologetic and sent a $15 gift card :sunny:

Another AA question - if I book a flight in Business/First MileSAAver and cancel it, what happens?

To have the miles reinstated to your account, AA charges a fee of $150 for the first award ticket on the ressie and $25 for additional tickets reinstated on the same ressie. I recently had to cancel a trip booked on miles. I believe if you are Exec Plat status (I'm not), they will waive the fees.

Hooters, back in their heyday started an airline up and down the east coast (for realz). It was a more expensive operation than they thought. I think it only lasted a couple years. The flight attendants (stewardesses back then) were outfitted like Hooter Girls. Just wondering if anybody ever flew them.

I had no idea that was a thing lol did you fly them?

Oh no, I hope your back improves soon! Is this a regular problem for you or something new?

And I should really get on the swagbucks 🚂
Thank you! It's something I've dealt with for 15 years. Getting hit TWICE within nine months (rear ended and pushed into the car in front of me BOTH times!) nine years ago did not help the situation. I had an amazing massage therapist for the last five years who kept me upright and mobile but she recently moved half way across the country, so unless I can find someone as talented as her, I forsee many more "floor days". 😟

I just joined Swagbucks a few days ago because I need a little help with MSR and so far I am pleased. In fact, I just got an email from PP that two out of four of my redemptions have been deposited. Pretty quick turnaround. I was expecting 10-14 days.

And in a terrible fate of coincidence, dh just called to say his back went out and will be using my yoga mat on the floor tonight. UGH :badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc:

Amex has been trying to sell me the platinum card for years. I get fliers every couple of months. How do those of you that have it justify the annual fee? I only use uber when I'm on vacation. The airline fee credit would be great if you could still buy gift cards. What makes this card worth it?

AmEx mailed me an offer about 40 years ago. I mailed it back and they denied me. That was the last time I ever looked at AmEx (until recently)

... Bummer :( I've always been a big SW fan too. Luckily we (as in DH and I) haven't had any issues really, I think my most recent bad delay was flying out of SNA last March and almost an hour? The biggest thing was we almost hit curfew and wouldn't have been able to leave. Dh has had quite a couple delays recently, but he still prefers them. But his really bad delays the last two trips were both Frontier (and the last flight experience was really bad)

Wait, just how YOUNG are you two? Curfew???

Nothing like running out of propane with the burgers half cooked. Thankful for the george foreman for a change.

I'm sure you see a chiropractor do they have a massage person? Mine has 2 and I see one of them, she's great.

Some airports have curfews where planes can't take off/land without permission or fines.

This kind of sorta fits with what we frequently see on the PL deals. Those two, along with CS, tend to be the available resorts when I check further out dates. As you get closer, more inventory hits. Maybe it will be the same with AA but I’d be concerned about not being booked early enough for FP’s and just peace of mind :(

I posted this on our SWGE AP Preview group PM but thought I’d share here as well as a datapoint.

I just started accumulating AA miles so thought I’d check out the offerings for the extra night we need at Disney on 8/16 so we can attend the preview on the 17th.

————

As of yesterday Swan and Dolphin had availability for 10,800 and 10,300 per night on Aug 16.

Several Disney hotels are there too and Coronado looks like the best bet at 22,900.

Not sure if any of these interest folks. I feel like the $198 AP rate I paid direct to Disney for Coronado is better and I prefer to save my AA miles for future airfare but if I had a ton of AA miles and no real plans it seems pretty good.

Four Seasons is available for 49,400 which isn’t bad compared to the cash prices I was seeing.
Swolphin on AA miles is my plan

Also - what is Business/First MileSAAver?

When I pick the flight they wanted it says this:
American Airlines
View Available SeatsMeal: Beverage service
Aircraft: 321 Opens in a new windowBooking Code: U
Total travel time: 2hr 40minClass: First

Wow I feel like such a newb!
Just concurring with others -
As long as you put in the correct # of passengers (which seems like just 2?) then it looks like they do have award space on that flight in First.
(I got excited once when I checked a flight but only had 1 ticket selected. Went back to do 2 and the flight disappeared - they only had one award seat. Hate to get hopes up)
25k One Way is standard sAAver award for First Class contiguous 48 states travel. (So 50k, pp, RT; 100k total)
You just want to check for "First or Business is not available on all flights" for flights with a connection. Means one leg is going to be in economy but you'll pay full price still. You'll see it in Red under the "Flight Details" link if it comes up.

When checking for Main Cabin cash pricing to compare, they'll show the lowest "Basic Economy" price and when you click on it you'll get the choice for that or standard Main Cabin to compare side by side. Edit: I like that it gives the full totals next to each other on the pop up.

Another AA question - if I book a flight in Business/First MileSAAver and cancel it, what happens?

And concur with @NewbieMom - here's the reinstatement policy for cancelled award flights. You can either pay the reinstatement fee or just forfeit the points (https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-program/miles/redeem/award-travel/award-travel.jsp).
Reinstating flight awards

Contact American Airlines Reservations for assistance with canceling your flight award reservation and requesting mileage reinstatement.

  • You can request to have your AAdvantage® mileage reinstated for a wholly unused AAdvantage® award ticket and if the ticket has not expired. For tickets booked on or after November 1, 2018, you can request to have your AAdvantage® mileage reinstated for a wholly unused AAdvantage® award ticket if your reservation is canceled prior to departure and if the ticket has not expired.
  • The reinstatement charge is $150 per account for the first award ticket. Additional award tickets reinstated to the same account at the same time will have a $25 charge per ticket.
  • This fee will be waived for Executive Platinum members using miles from their account, including for Economy Web Special awards.
