Just requested a Disney Chase debit card by SM. Hope that works and I don't have to call. Have had a Chase checking for a long time, didn't know I could get the discount until reading it on here. Thought, oh I'll do it later when we have a trip planned. Then DS's last minute SWGE trip came up and it was too late. So now I'm doing it for DD's trip!

Question - do I actually have to use the debit card for the 10% discount or just show the card?

wow. I'm going to try again on a different device too. I have no idea whats going on but I'm so happy that they're still there.... can you tell me the points cost on Cabana Bay for 11-18? if not no big deal just curious what it's showing
ETA (#$%*!!!+<#@!!!) I rechecked... my featured hotels are a few crap properties on Idrive- when I try to filter by name, it auto fills whatever UNI onsite hotel I'm looking for,but then I get the red bar with 'no results' I'm beyond frustrated right now. UGH no variation on any searches are working. I had wondered if CIP search vs CSR search made a difference....
April 11 - April 18th - booked with a CSR - Cabana Bay Standard Room - 2 adults 0 children = 111,099 URs :)

Tomorrow is the first day to book hotels at Glacier NP (in the park) for July 2020. I have seen the hotels on Chase portal but I am going to go on the Xanterra site first, hopefully get my first picks, then see if on Chase since I can always cancel Xanterra. It is more important to me to stay in the park than be free. There are a few NPS fans on here. I'll let you know how it goes.
Good news - I got all the accommodations I wanted on the days I wanted next July. Xanterra site was painfully slow and hung up twice while I was getting my reservations. I checked on Chase and those are all saying sold out. I am thinking xanterra doesn't open up to 3rd party right away. I'll check back and see if I can move any of my paid nights to points at a later date.

Other news - I see my CIP in informed delivery. Ready to break in next week in Washington on vacation.

Got a new CC from Citi today. Unfortunately, not related to churning but my official gov't Visa. I was hoping it would continue to be delayed so I could book my flights for Chicago on my CSR or Platinum. Oh well...

Can also add a negative DP about SW GC reimbursement, at least to this point. Purchased GC 6/25 no reimbursement (and meter still shows full availability), on the other hand Dell $100 purchase from 6/26 already reimbursed. Hoping it's just another glitch but that doesn't seem to be the case this time.

Awesome redemptions!!

Where do you stay in Costa Rica?

Thanks!

We're going back to Punta Islita, Guanacaste. I wrote a mini-review of it after our trip last year -

https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...it-cards-so-much-thread.3680669/post-59992007
For this upcoming trip, I was able to book with Pointsaver rates so it was only 130,000 Marriott points for 5 nights (with 5th night free), which works out to 26K/nt. Since it includes activities like ziplining and horseback riding, it's a heckuva good deal.

This will be our 3rd time in CR, and I really really loved our first trip where we stayed in La Fortuna (near Arenal Volcano) and Manuel Antonio. If we go back again after this time, I want to visit other spots. CR is a beautiful country!

Say what you will about Disney, but it definitely helped prepare my family for international travel. It also ruin Shibuya crossing for us.

After leaving Magic Kingdom after fireworks... Shibuya crossing is child's play.
This is so true lol. When we went to Shibuya crossing I was expecting this huge mass of people, but it's nothing compared to Disney after fireworks in the Hub.

Thanks!

Which airport do you fly into? Might need to look into it since Punta Cana is no, no now.

SOOOO frustrated with the MB situation. I've been trying since they released these upgraded bands to get ours ordered for our Aug trip. Never anything all 6 of us wanted and I wasn't able to split the order. Now, we only have 4 days left and since I don't want a bunch of gray bands, I'm trying to just choose colors (seems so boring now :( ) but I cannot even get the website to come up at all :badpc: :furious:
Mine has only been showing colored bands for the last couple of days.

I went ahead and closed my CIP1. The AF was gonna post on 7/4 and I just didn't want to deal with it so I closed it.

This is unrelated, but we don't have nearly as many points as others in our Chase account. I don't mind because that means we were spending them on something. We currently have around 130k and I'm planning on using them for a Universal trip sometime this year.

Lol I have 37k and they're about to get cashed out to pay off the balance of my Disney trip.

I agree. This couldn't have been said any better. Sometimes, it takes a reminder like this for hoarders (I too am one). I'm planning a trip with my family to Vegas in September and with additional family members this time (usually, it's always just DH and I, so easy!) and originally, I contemplated a suite to save some points over two rooms. Then, I sat and thought to myself. This could be the only trip I have left with my entire family going together as a unit in this 'chapter' of our lives since little brother is growing up and everyone is starting to have their own lives. In addition, the nightmare of 4-5 adults being cramped together and one bathroom trying to get ready in the morning :scared:

Ultimately, I have a healthy UR balance, so what's the need to keeping saving those URs for 'future' trips that may or may not manifest when I can try to ensure everyone is comfortable 'now'. The points can be replenished, but I can't guarantee I can use them for the same memories down the road. I have to always remind myself, there's a difference between stretching points, but also splurging when splurging is warranted.

On a related note, I've never been to Vegas, so was hoping to get recommendations since we appear to have plenty of recurring visitors? Hotel recommendations? I am deciding between Bellagio and Palazzo, I think. Must dos?
We've stayed at both and went to Vegas in June 2017, February 2018 and April 2019. We prefer Palazzo! It's just more spacious than Bellagio and the in house eating options are better imho. Both are nice hotels though! I urge you to look on Hotwire before you go spending your hard earned points on either. BOTH hotels are on hotwire for far less than booking direct. I paid $120 a night plus resort fee to stay at Palazzo in April. Weekends are more, but still better than booking direct or through IHG. On Hotwire, look for "all suite, grand canal shoppes, 5 star hotel". That's the Palazzo. Bellagio is normally "center strip, 5 star hotel, fountains".

Good Luck! So much to do in Vegas and we take the kids ages 10 and 13. In addition to all of the food and entertainment options, we use LV as a "hub" to visit many of the State/National Parks/gorgeous topography out west. In the three trips, we've done Bryce NP, Zion NP, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Valley of Fire. We have yet to see Monument Valley and Death Valley and don't forget you can do Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon very easily.

Alrighty, here is our excitement for the trip:

I dont think I mentioned here that BIL, the one in Cali, went to the ER twice the weekend before the trip. So 6/14 to 6/16. Fri night he said numbness tingling and burning in his hands and feet, MIL told him he needed to go in right away so he did after a bit. He had gone in to urgent care a day or two before and been diagnosed with pneumonia. BIL had shingles last winter and has had a cough since then, but does not take care of himself so didnt go in. Then his wife had gallbladder issues (a whole other story) so he didnt go until that was taken care of.

So this ER trip they sent him home the next morning, not sure what was wrong but said he didnt have pneumonia. Then he went back on Sunday afternoon because he was having trouble breathing. They said his throat was swollen and thought it was a reaction to the medicine.

Meanwhile I am ready to fly ILs out to Ontario which is the closest airport for 12k United points, told them not to worry but they waited. After Sunday they switched meds or took him off or something and he was supposed to go back on 6/28 for a follow up and do allergen tests. BIL is all I'm fine now, still going to try and meet you guys for Kennedy.

Now, I could write a book on his wife. I tell DH I dont have to claim her as SIL because his brother married her :P But sticking to my personal observations and impressions. She is a high maintenance, attention seeking type. There is always some drama going on. Anytime BIL leaves or is about to there is a crisis. I also feel like she is the type who feels she needs to compete with and replace BILs family in his life, if that makes sense. I believe you can't necessarily let family get in between your relationship with your spouse and make all your decisions and cause issues, you need to put your spouse and kids first, but they dont need to be cut out unless there are certain situations. My dad is an Alien Swirling Saucers-hole but DH did not try to get rid of him, he left that to me and I had to figure out everything for myself which was good. My ILs are not crazy overbearing people. She had to have her gallbladder removed recently. Outpatient procedure. She kept putting it off with the excuse of needing to check out the surgeons, but also going to the ER every 3 days for the pain. Bad enough the ER dr was finally like, we are doing this tonight and being done with it. Then he got called away and said we will do it in the morning and you are staying overnight because we dont trust you not to go home and eat and sabotage this. So theres a teeny look at SIL.

So we bought insurance for this trip, right? Mainly thinking of grandparents but BIL is all no, I'm doing better, it's fine. Ok, so we give everyone including SIL the ship phone number and two email addresses. DCL gives you 50mb of free data, so the plan was to try and check email a couple times a day. Everyone was supposed to email BOTH emails because we didn't know which would get checked first. One was mine and one was FILs, chosen because we get the least emails to save data. But then MIL got worried about accidentally turning the phone on when we were leaving on tbr cruise Sunday so we didnt set hers up to check FILs email. It's fine, we'll just check mine!

Soooo can anyone see where this is going?

BIL goes back into the hospital on Monday morning. He sends an email like hey I'm going back to the hospital. To ONLY FILs email. Dropped ball number one. So we dont know. Other BIL back in CO doesnt know either, just his brother is no longer answering so he texts SIL who says hes back in the hospital but fine. Dropped ball numbers two to... five? BIL doesn't tell BIL, SIL doesnt tell him or us, BIL in CO sends an email about it... to ONLY FILs email. Arghhhh.

So then we figure out we can call and text over wifi! This never crossed my mind or came up online anywhere. Seriously next time I will just budget a data package and then tell people we can respond to texts but only occasionally. So DH sends BIL a text like how are you feeling and he responds, when can I call. Ok, this is not a good sign. So we try wifi calling and get ahold of him on speaker with everyone there.

One more small interjection, BIL mentioned on the call that he was going to call the ship that night if he hadn't heard from us... which is about $8 a minute plus fees. He sent ONE email that he was going, sent nothing else, SIL sent nothing else, before he was going to place a $300 phone call. Seriously next time data package, no one is getting the ship number.

On to seriousness. BIL seems to have contracted one of those one in a million chance auto immune diseases where after clearing a normal infection his antibodies for whatever reason started to attack his nerves. They are doing treatments but wont know what kind of recovery he could be looking at until they can do rehab or more tests. His regular dr is back today so they are supposed to find out more today. When we spoke to him on the ship he said he was too weak to get up himself. He couldn't eat solids because that was what was wrong with his throat, more paralysis/no control not swelling. It was hard for him to talk.

GUYS THIS WAS AT THE TIME SIL WAS TELLING OTHER BIL HE WAS FINE THEY WERE JUST RUNNING TESTS. WHATTTTTTT THIS IS NOT FINE IN MY BOOKKKKKKK

So BIL probably couldn't reach out more, but how could she not? What in the actual bad word????

And they knew that weekend he was going back in. We could have cancelled everything at that point and sent ILs out there. Had we found out Monday we could have jumped ship in Nassau on Tuesday and gotten half the money back and everything else. I dont want to sound like all that matters is the money it's more that everyone would have been happier being there sooner. And frustrated that BIL was not honest with us about what was going on because he didnt want to ruin the trip.... Instead everyone stressed and fretted and didnt really enjoy the last 1.5 days of the cruise. Other BIL booked flights out there and hotel for ILs and and flight home for aunt on Fri. So now on my to do list for the day is to reach out to insurance because I think the policy should cover those flights.

So that's how we ended up back at Disney over the weekend. We dropped everyone off at the airport and booked a room at the Dolphin. I had a thought of cashing out some Discover cb for Hotels.com GCs and booking through there, but their GC tool is still down online and would have had to call in the car and no notepad handy.... just said screw it and booked the AAA rate and used my $40 Amex offer. Just glad we have a cash cushion so it didnt really matter. I was able to refund the KSC tickets through Expedia. I cancelled the rooms in Canaveral for Fri night which were booked with certs and cancellation said we'd get them back. I havent seen them in the accounts yet but kinda figured I would have to contact Marriott because that's what happened last time too. Kept the original car rental and just paid for a second night of parking at Swolphin since we took back half of ILs things that they wouldnt need and left some bags in the car. Lost the AA points for the second Dolphin room but all I cared about was not getting charged the resort fee on it...

ILs hotel room is through Thursday currently. Early stages but will probably look at getting them SW CP to help with travel expenses and help them make the spend. Maybe something for hotels too. have a feeling there will be lots of back and forth. One set of grandparents knows what is going on becuase of aunt, but DH and I are off to try and tell other grandma tonight (along with his dad on the phone) which worries me, I think it will be hard on her :(

Holy cow that's a lot of poor communication. I do hope your BIL is getting better. I need to get serious about getting a shingles vaccine -- I just turned 50 and had the chicken pox so I think I am the prime demographic to get it. Your BIL seem like he would be kind of young to be getting shingles.

Well, Ginger actually called, so that's a plus, at least she isn't a liar LOL. She said she reached out to whatever department is responsible, and they said, yes the spend has been met, but it's a known glitch that we are working on fixing. She will get the miles, but we can't say how long it will take.
So...I guess that's the best I can hope for now, at least more people have looked and agreed the spend is met, and she documented my file. Man, I so look forward to the day that my SkyMiles balance finally jumps by 80000.

Which airport do you fly into? Might need to look into it since Punta Cana is no, no now.

Yeah, don't blame you, I wouldn't feel comfortable with Punta Cana now either.

For Guanacaste, Liberia (LIR) airport is the closest one, as it is towards the northern half of the country, so that's the one we're flying into. San Jose (SJO) airport is more central. Both are good modern airports and well-organized.

FWIW, we're flying SW on the way there (I have a CP) and because the flights were sold out on SW on the way home, I used AA miles for the way home. One way cash prices on AA are completely ridiculous - for our itinerary it priced at $2003 one way per person, but I got it for 27.5K miles + $64 taxes per person. I will be sad when AA goes to dynamic award pricing.
