Is this your first Barclays card? How many recent inquiries and open accounts do you have? Just trying to understand the method to Barclays madness :scratchin
First Barkley card. I have a ton of open accounts but should be only one recent inquiry. I do also have a recent heloc.

So this just happened (at past 2am my time).

I should probably get some sleep and tackle DH’s application in the morning.

Edited to add: They pulled TU. I selected Retail Trade - Used Merchandise (I sell on Poshmark, eBay, etc). 4 years in business , 2 employees so I could get card for DH and get the extra 10k miles. $1,500 revenue. The standard I use when applying for business cards (helps to keep my stories straight!).
YOu know what? I just realized.... So Dh apped- (well technically it was me_got the review page, they pulled TU almost instantly(got the email) yet the check app page says nothing matches,so I know for sure the app went thru.I'll just wait to see what happens, altho if they call my phone, what number should I be watching for?

Just ordered some Patagonia jackets for DW from eBags while it's still 15% back on Ebates. Looks like they just restocked many popular styles that have been showing sold out in recent weeks.

@wanderlust7 - I know you were eyeing some Patagonia jackets. Maybe check it out?

Darn you @Lain....and thanks! I've stayed far away from that ebags site but now they've got me.....

Ours are treating it like a tunnel so I can’t wait to get in the car and see them try to sprint out the mesh door that will be zipped

I was thinking the same thing about the mesh, but I have two cats that would just go to sleep. On the other hand it would already be shredded by daughters cat. Maybe the vet will give you a med to relax them for the car ride.

Today is the first day I can start choosing Olympics tickets to request!! I'm scanning the list this morning, but need to sit down and make a schedule and figure out what will work best. It's not a first come, first served basis, so I can put in any requests until May 31. I'll find out mid-June what my options are and have to purchase by June 26. I'm going to put in for the equestrian events I want to see at the highest category tier seats and hope I get all of those for options. I've decided I'm willing to pay a decent amount of money for those tickets since that event is obviously the highlight for us. I would like to see one of the really popular events like swimming or gymnastics, so if I get one of those options then I might shell out of a little for that too and buy it now. Otherwise, I probably won't buy anything for lower level events and wait and see what goes on sale for that closer to. I figure even if we just do one event each day, that will be plenty in addition to travel and sightseeing in Tokyo.
We entered the lottery today too! Good luck!

Datapoint for anyone doing the WF checking bonus of $400.

  • 3/2 opened account with $50 on credit card.
  • 3/14 txfr $3k from Fidelity cash account
  • 4/28 txfr $3k from Amex Savings
  • 5/6 txfr $3k from Fidelity cash
  • 5/8 $400 bonus posted
I ran into an issue trying to move the initial $3k I transferred from Fidelity back into my Fidelity account. Not sure what happened but I had to delete and then re add the WF account info on my Fidelity account. That’s why my second deposit was from Amex Savings.

So in summary looks like both Fidelity cash and Amex Savings accounts work.

DH is using employer deposits and no bonus for him yet (he gets paid every 2 weeks so hasn’t hit his third month of $3k yet).
Thanks for the DP. I'm using Paypal but so far it seems to be working. I'll be making my third deposit in the next few days. 2nd statement closed yesterday.

The current room only offer includes a Disney Gift Card at checkin for stays May 28 - June 30. (Per night = $10 values, $15 mod, $20 dlx, $25 villa). I bet that’s what they are referencing there.
They must be thinking it will be really slow early June. DD just got access to some REALLY GOOD room rates for that same time period.

I was wondering if you were signing up today! How soon will you all find out about tickets as residents?
We find out on June 20. It was actually really hard to get in. The site was slammed all day. It’s not first-come, first-served for us either but I think everyone wanted to get it done ASAP “just in case.”

omgosh I am so glad you said that. I've even wanting a new raincoat and can't find a deal!!!

No call from Barclays to get more information after my pending Business App....weird thing is the email they sent me to check status if I put my information in it comes up as no application received and gives a customer service # that following the prompts eventually just disconnects. Starting to think that I was not made to have the Barclays Biz card and I am going to have to accept it.

I read an article this morning that said the site had been really busy. I put a couple requests on CoSport's website for equestrian events this morning and didn't have any issues. We're planning to fly out somewhere around Wednesday/Thursday/Friday of the first week of the Olympics and attend events during the second week, then try to do Disney too. There's an equestrian event I'd like to attend Aug 1 so if I get that then I'll probably try to get a Wednesday flight.

We really had to prioritize because some of those prices were :scared1: The best seats for the swimming finals were over $1000! Each! We entered for the cheaper seats on those because the women’s gymnastics final was expensive enough. We also tried for diving, soccer, tennis. We know we won’t hit for everything but hopefully we can see something.

I also tried checking my status through the link Barkley's sent to my email and they have to app record.

I usually just blow my UR in tickets for 6 in one shot but I have scraped together about 35k remnants that I’m thinking of booking a car with. Can you help me think this through?
I need a car that holds the 6 plus luggage.
Hertz through AutoEurope is $551
Hertz through Chase (same car) is $654 or 43k points (pay difference in cash).
So $551/43k is $0.012 so obviously not as great as $0.015 but is that the right comparison? How do people think this through? I’m thinking that I should just use the points since right now, I have no other plans for them (and will go for CIP2 as soon as I can meet MSR) but if I’m missing a key point...

Since you have to pay part of it in cash (which wouldn't get the 1.5 redemption), I think you'll actually get less than $0.012. So it would be $129 in cash. 35k in points, or $350 at cashout rate. Paying $479 for something $551, would make it a 13% discount. The $0.015 CSR redemption works out to a 33% discount.

We have what we call "Recharge", so unlimited time off (I was up to 5 weeks of paid vacation before they switched). We switched over a few years ago. I think it's great in theory (and I don't know of anyone that has abused the policy), I find that I have to be more aware of how many days I've taken, because I won't take enough. I don't take sick days (I work from home, so even if I'm not feeling great I can still work in jammies on my couch), so I will sometimes go a few months without taking any time off. I definitely don't take 5 weeks worth, though I should.

I think it's a benefit for companies because they don't have to pay out any remaining PTO to people, and they know that employees may tend to take less time than what they would've earned.

ETA: I'm fortunate in that our company encourages us to take time off. It's a personal thing that I don't take more time - my work load falls to others when I'm out, and although I have a fantastic boss and team, I feel guilty! There are definitely times when those in our role (we are in sales) don't take off (end of quarter, end of year). But not because that's forced.
Like you, my dh will be reluctant to take time off even though his workload is his own and no one really needs to pick up the slack. Unfortunately one of our upcoming dates is during FYE, which we planned specifically. His company gets SO pushy to get that last sale in and dh has just had enough. It has never been a problem before, but I can see it being one now.
I'm going to reply with what I had and I never had the need to use it all: Early forties - sick and vacation - approx. 5 weeks total. Mid sixties at retirement - approx. 9 weeks total. Sick was cumulative and I was paid 30 % at retirement and the time amount was added to pension. Earned annual was used at their instruction up to retirement date.

That said, many people with similar benefits used every last minute and never accrued any leave, and some never took a day off. The individual is who drives this. Some people are dedicated and actually like working and feel some reason to do a great job and some people always think the employer owes them more even when they are non productive and downright lazy with no sense of responsibility.

When I was working I never would have made that last statement.

I also realize there are employers who may be less than scrupulous.

With retirement in his sights dh has become less motivated to work with each passing year. Despite his amazing recovery from open heart surgery last year, his stamina and patience for work has waned, plus he has come to hate his job and employer. ( I wish we could afford for him to take early retirement but he must stay the course until Medicare kicks in.) He is extremely conscientious and I fear he will take less time off now that it is not an "earned" benefit, while coming to blame his employer for that decision. Such a conundrum!

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

I called the vet about that and they mentioned maybe having something. They called and I missed it but they didn’t leave a voicemail or call back so I need to try them again.
