Our first experience with WDW was in Deluxes. There’s no going back.
Same for our family. Our first trip to wdw we stayed at BLT and it was new’ish. Nowhere to go from there but down lol. I never thought we’d do more than a night or two at a value but here we are looking at pop for half our stay this year. My kids are excited though (dh not as much) :D

Follow up to buying the visa/mc gift cards. I have a little bunch on hand - about $800 after I counted it. Don't have this 'cash' in my budget and was kind of forgetting about it. I think I'd better run off and spend it before life hands me a reason to spend it - car repair, home repair, whatever.

Umm, no - I would say the Grand Floridian Villas were a huge step up from BLT - I love both places, but those GFV were pretty swanky when I stayed in them when they were new with a gorgeous view of 7 seas lagoon and 'fireworks' over the castle from my fourth floor corner room.

The best part of BLT is limited walking within the resort and the ability to walk to MK (or rather from MK at closing).

My DD has kind of become a lounge and hotel snob. She also prefers flying on trips we used to drive! :sad2:

BG Williamsburg is really nice (sorry, @pillow lol). That's where my family has always gone growing up. Never been to Tampa, but some of my extended family used to live there and said it was really nice.

We are AP holders at BG Tampa, and go quite often. It's great!! They just added another new coaster last month (Tigris), and they're currently redoing the wooden coaster to be a hybrid wood/steel version. Their F&W festival is awesome as well (I *almost* prefer it to Epcot's F&W :duck:). There's plenty of areas for little ones to play (Sesame Street themed), water play areas, etc. They have some cool experiences you can do as well, like getting up close and personal with giraffes or penguins.

They have an animal hospital type building, where we've seen them do surgery on a pelican and a tiger. One time the kiddos got to make meatballs for the carnivorous animals to eat :)

I'm hearing jets overhead so I'm going to run out and check in a minute. Joint base open house this weekend and I'm getting out of town. Too much traffic!

Air show stuff says both thunderbirds and blue angels at Andrews. Don't know if that is real because usually they alternate.

edit: I definitely saw a blue angel flying upside down. Another plane was near but the cloud obscured before I could focus, but since they were in the same practice area, I'm assuming another blue angel. In my lower back yard I can see more clearly because not so many trees but I didn't want to walk in my too tall grass back there.

That is odd! But man oh man - if you got to see both at the same air show?! That would be truly incredible!

Did you get more than one? I managed to get 4 yesterday at once all with no fees. I’m going back everyday until the promo is over. I think Saturday I will try for $1000s worth. I have anywhere from 10,000-15,000 left to pay for my wedding so if I can’t liquidate them that’s a good fall back option but I’m nervous lol

I got 2. He didn’t limit me though. I was just doing a 10% back up to $50 Amex offer.
I’m going to go back for more.

Yes, it would! I googled air show and came up with the same calendar for both, but I don't really know. When I see my military neighbor I will ask him.

Sheesh! I just saw a blue angel through my window really low and close! And loud! During air shows we can see them but the usual day to day is minor with much higher flying planes over us. The presidents helicopters do fly over me three at a time, but that's nothing compared to the swoosh of the jets! I just saw three together through my back picture window. I like it when they do the tight 4 - 36 inches from wingtip - don't know if they still do that.

Since we are back to the jet topic I will say I am not sure what creates more anxiety in me, actually flying or watching jets. I absolutely hate it. When they did a flyover before the football game I went to last year I knew it was coming so I was just a nervous ball of anxiety till after they flew over. Then I could see them for awhile while they were showing off or whatever. I hated it, like my stomach was in knots. You will absolutely never catch me at an airshow. Nope, not going to happen. Growing up we lived about 5 minutes from the airport and they used to do touch and go's (not sure if that is the term) with the huge military transport planes. So that is what we saw everyday from our pool, multiple times a day. Learned to block those out, but I didn't like that either. Just typing this out I can feel my shoulders tighten up. lol

Like really want to throw up just reading this.

And, I must be living in a time warp or under a rock because although I know it's air show time (and mothers day weekend) I had no idea what my neighbor JBAndrews has planned this year. Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, Golden Knights, Geico Skywriters and more. That's pretty epic. They are selling tickets.
No cars on base. They'll transport everybody from Fedex Field to the Base.

I'll be hearing them and seeing them for the next few days, but I think I'll spend Friday night out of town at my daughter's house.

I do DVC so sort of deluxe depending where you stay! But, I can do anything for 1 or 2 nights depending on how many people are in the room with me. 4 people in a value and it was 3 nights ….pretty tight! So I have a 2 adult/1 baby limit for those. Pretty much the same for the moderates. And although I've crammed 5 in a DVC studio when necessary I would never plan it that way on purpose, but sometimes stuff happens and you try to book a bigger room last minute and can't get it, so we all get cosy.

I've stayed in almost every Disney resort at WDW, and don't have any I would never return to. It's mostly occupancy level that makes me think twice because I need to breathe, be able to take a shower and get a cup of coffee in the morning.

All that said, I'm not paying no $200 plus for a value! Not a value! I'd rather be offsite somewhere nice for that cash (or points!).

our kids were young when we purchased DVC...and we stayed in studios back then. Now we book a 1 br for just DH and I...and a 2 br when either of the kids are with us.

I have been very happy with the off site stays booked with URs in 2 bedrooms since finding this group. It has been wonderful being able to visit our son 4 times a year instead of once or twice.

We loved Wyndham Bonnet Creek and Marriott Royal Palms...have another stay booked the end of this month at Bonnet Creek..and trying out Marriott Lakeshore Reserve in September before moving over to BCV

Aww! I'm not into flying either, but I can watch these guys at it all day long - no choice for the next few days.

When we lived in Kingsville Texas I saw a British team - 9 jets! That was awesome and I've (personally) never seen a display like them since. I also saw one of the WW1 or2 stunt planes crash in front of us, but the guys survived and were fine. But I can tell you until word got to us on the field that they were okay, we were all pretty down and quiet. Later at the O Club we all washed it right away <g>.

I've always wanted to go to BG Tampa and now it's going to happen based on this post! Thanks! When is their food and wine?

The blue angels have 3 different shows depending on the height of the cloud deck. You mentioned it was cloudy so they may be lower than they have been previously if it's not normally cloudy. Even with our air show in aug we have seen all 3 shows over the years though the no clouds when they can go highest is always the best.

I think they are probably just practicing today. The weather doesn't look great for them all through the weekend.
