wait a sec...wouldn't the girl shout out to her mom....hey, mom, they are making me get off the plane...weird.

This is a really weird story. They were all on the same plane... why didn't the daughter just walk back & talk to her mother instead of trying to call her on the phone? Why would they remove an existing passenger to accommodate someone else due to "overbooking?" How did this situation result in $75K worth of damages?
I’m sure we don’t know the whole story, but airlines have done worse. I can see the girl being at the front, the Mom at the back and an aisle with people standing up, stowing overhead luggage, the mom may not have heard anything. Plus depending on the kid’s personality, they may not argue with an authority figure. And a plane taking off without my kid is worth more than $75k to me.

Only 2 issues. Chase won’t let u pick seats they get assigned at the gate. If that matters to you.
And paying more for checked bags if you have the JetBlue cc bags r free

Thank you! I realized after I booked I did not select a seat. The JetBlue website seems to be down right now, but I see the reservation in my mobile app and it looks like it assigned me to 7D. I selected aisle so not a huge issue. I will call JetBlue and confirm. I am traveling solo, but if I were with a group I would really want to select seats!

Sadly I do not have a JetBlue CC (yet?). I did a Blue Plus fare. Glad I am figuring all this out on a solo trip.

ETA I just checked the flight map and it looks like my seat has an X so maybe its mine? IDK if its "ticketed" yet. It also looks like it will let me pick anything within the plane through the app. Still going to call to confirm. I can always cancel under 24 hours

Yikes. Is this for all flights booked through the Chase portal with URs? Asking because I definitely would want to pick my own seat.

Yes! It only asked me for seat preference on JetBlue. I confirmed and purchased the ticket and went to the JetBlue app. Since I had entered my TrueBlue number, it automatically linked to my account. It asked me to confirm my info since it was booked externally, and now it lets me change my seat to whatever row/letter I would like. Really not too bad. I assume it would work on the website too, JetBlue is just having some issues. Just glad I know what to expect going forward.

I figured I would call and confirm it all tomorrow am just to make sure its good.

Good to know. So far I haven't bought seats with URs, so I had no idea this would be the case, but I guess it's how it works. I'll have to remember that one.

Don’t be one of those churners...LOL! Keep your cards open for 12-13 months and cancel before the AF is due :thumbsup2

Gotcha, but how do I know when the AF is due? Also, if I downgrade CSR in a year to a CSP, will I still be hit with the AF for the CSP, or is the AF still delayed a year for that card?

For those who do a PC to avoid paying the next annual fee, or receive a refund within 45 days, do you normally call and speak to someone at the credit card company? Chase, for instance? Or, is there a way to do it on line? Perhaps sending a secure message?

How do you know when to cancel a card? Does everyone cancel once they hit the MSR? We’ve hit 3 MSR’s within the past 9 months with 3 new cards, but we haven’t closed any. What’s the magic number for debt to income ratio? I feel like I understand how to apply for a card and hit the MSR, but I’m guessing I will eventually need to start thinking about closing out some, and I’m not as comfortable with that process and how that might impact our credit scores.

Do not cancel cards before the AF posts in a year. This is how you destroy relationships with the credit card issuer and guarantee you won't be approved for future cards. During that year that you are holding on to the card, analyze the benefits of the card and determine if keeping it is right for your goals and churning strategy. Do not cancel cards simply because they have an annual fee. Depending on your situation and goals, that is like throwing money away.

Analyze the benefits first.

Does it have a bonus spending category that will earn you points faster and other category credits that outweigh the fee? The old Ink+ does for us as does the Amex Rose Gold card.

Are the points worth more with that card and redeeming those points outweigh the fee? CSR does for us.

Does it give you a free night hotel stay or statement credits that outweigh the fee? Chase Bonvoy, Amex Bonvoy biz, Amex Bonvoy Brilliant, Amex Hilton Aspire, Chase IHG all do for us.

Does it give you card anniversary points every year that allow you to stay at hotels that far outweigh the fee year after year. Club Carslon card does for us.

Look at your goals, both long and short term, during the year you have it open, then decide.

Whatever you decide is fine, just make sure the decision is right for you and your situation. As @SouthFayetteFan would say ...

Cancelling all AF cards after a year is the right way way to churn. Keeping lots of AF cards for the benefits is also the right way to churn.

For Chase you have to call to PC a card

We currently have 4 cards with annual fees. I have a Chase Disney Visa that earns 2% and we pay an annual fee of $49. I have a Chase Marriott Vis with an annual fee of $85 that we keep because we receive one free hotel per year. DH just took out a CSP and the $95 AF will hit sometime this fall. I was just approved for the CSR and we will definitely get our money’s worth from that. So, I’m not opposed to AF’s, but am just more concerned I might be duplicating benefits with us both having a CSP and CSR, but really don’t want to get rid of the CSR, just worried I won’t get enough out of it to justify keeping it a second year. We do not seem to be benefiting as much from the $49 AF Disney card, but we have earned more than the fee already in rewards. We have 2 other Disney cards that are 1% rewards that both DH and I have that we considered closing. These do not have an annual fee, but we are not benefiting from them, so it seems silly to keep them. We also have an Amazon Visa that doesn’t have a fee, but is older and I’m reluctant to cancel. One of the 1% Disney Visa’s is DH’s oldest credit card, so I’m reluctant to close that one. I have much older cards, so was considering closing or PC’ing my Disney Visa, but no clue what I would PC it to?

Chase cards can be closed through SM. Amex can be closed through ‘chat’. Barclay can be closed through SM. If you decide to PC, pretty much all banks require calling.

Also, just to add, we have become more attracted to stats at Hilton properties, but I’ve had the Marriott card forever and am a Gold Member (not sure if that means anything anymore?), but just seems as though lately it has been more of a hassle than it’s worth to try to use points, and especially our annual certificate with Marriott. I’d like to branch out and try new rewards, but I’m reluctant to stray from Chase. I’m just starting the get a handle on UR, and feel as though branching out will ultimately not be as beneficial to us in terms of rewards earned.

I've bought tix 2x with URs both with AA. Both times I've been able to pick my seat, not on the UR portal but directly with the airline when I link the flight info to my acct. The first time was basic economy so I paid to pick a seat (pd AA directly on their site). This last time we chose regular economy, since it included a seat choice once I linked my flight info to AA and I was able to pick my seats (with no other charge) there.

I would think you could PC the Disney visa to the one with no AF.
You can PC the CSP to one of the freedoms after the AF hits. I agree most don't need both that and the CSR (past year one anyway).
I would avoid closing your oldest cards as that would effect your ave age of accounts.

If you call more than a month before expiration they won’t extend it. They tell you to call back closer to expiration. BTDT

Good point. I had similar when I tried to extend my nights and flight package with them (or whatever it’s called). The lady kept telling me to wait until it almost expired to extend it so that I could have an extra full year, but I wanted to make the booking right then, so FINALLY she extended it so that it was valid for when I wanted to make the booking. This was right after the merger so I was also afraid that if I waited and called back they might not extend it! It’s great that they are still pretty good with these extension policies though!

ETA: I was way behind (of course, as usual) when I posted this but I see now that you and @SouthFayetteFan have discussed this fully!

I would keep the no fee Disney cards and Amazon cards just lower the credit limits since you do not use them...
If the $49 Disney card is newer I would cancel it.

We also have a CSR and CSP between DH and I....we plan to keep the CSR and will either PC his CSP to a CSR or CF after 1 year...depends if we decide to get global entry or not

Any thoughts on Plastiq payments? Sent Federal and State payments on 4/11 with delivery on 4/15. As of today, they still aren't showing as paid through eftps or the state portal. Trying to decide if I wait another day or two to see if they post or just cancel the payments/try to get Plastiq to pay the late fees/send new payment. Does anyone know how long it takes Plastiq to credit the payment on your credit card? I would like to put the new payment on my CIP again. It looks like I have until May 1st before more late fees/interest accrue.

I don’t have an exact answer for you, but I am sorry you are having such problems. That is odd that it is still not showing as paid on the state side, so it is not like you are just dealing with the usual delay on Plastiq’s side to post the most timely update as to the payment status, it seems that legitimately the payment has not been received by the recipient yet.

I don’t know much about tax payments, but is it an option to “wire” the money for it? One time when I had a payment through Plastiq that was delayed and I REALLY needed it to get to the recipient, Plastiq offered to cancel the check and same day transfer the money straight to a bank account instead, for no extra fees (I’m not sure if they usually charge for this or not?). I’m not sure if this would work for taxes though? I don’t really know the proper terminology for the different types of transactions, so I hope that’s not a confusing explanation.

I have had payments cancelled and refunded, I think it took the normal amount of time that a credit card refund would normally take from a retailer etc.

Yikes. Is this for all flights booked through the Chase portal with URs? Asking because I definitely would want to pick my own seat.

I know with UR flights with Delta it defaults to Basic Economy flights and no seat selection. Which I agree is pretty much useless. That’s why I started finally focusing on MR’s for flights.

On the subject of closing and/or PCing Cards, are most people closing or PCing their CIP #1 before going for a second one? DH’s AF hit April 1 and I am paralyzed with indecision on what to do with it. If I close it before May 1 will they just reverse the AF? And I can do that through SM? That may be easiest since he doesn’t really want to call. He has a CIC already and was planning to get the CIU but it seems like it may be smarter to go for a new CIP instead. This hobby gives me anxiety, lol.
