I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I received mine at 8:12 am. I can see my 1st AA mailer. Not that matters since DH is a little disgruntled that he no longer has a perfect credit score thanks to Arrival + app I did for him.

Mine is still perfect but I'm sure I'll lose 1 point for my recent NFCU Flagship app.

I love it when Credit Karma reports - your score has dropped - and it's 1 point which goes back up in a week or so. So dramatic! And then they say I'm likely to be approved for all these cards that they are hocking on their site.

Tell him to buck up - he'll have it back shortly.

I came here looking for advice: I've canceled everything for my Vegas trip (except flight) and sold all my concert tickets for a tidy sum.

I used 70k Delta miles for the RT flights. Plus I burned my Amex plat credits on Delta comfort+ seat upgrades.

Should I just throw the flight away or go ahead and pay the awful $200 a head change fee? Honestly I'm not sure it is worth the money. Yes 70k miles is worth more than $400 probably - but this is almost like double paying to me.

What you would do?

I'd call them and see if I could find some sympathetic soul who would waive the change fee under the circumstances. You never know. Stranger things have happened.

@GlamMistress My condolences for your loss and so sorry for everything you are going through.

I've been away from this thread for 60+ pages due to my own family situation. My mother passed away quite unexpectedly on March 29 at age 79. She had congestive heart failure, but I don't think my sister and I (or any of my parents' friends) knew quite how serious it was. My family had been in CA to visit my Mom and Dad for Spring Break just the week before and my Mom seemed fine; maybe just a little run down and stressed out with everything that has been going on with my father. But the end stages of her heart failure just came on very suddenly at the end of last week. I spent the last week in CA making arrangements for my Mom and helping my Dad get settled at home (for those who remember my posting about his being ill, he is FINALLY home after 6 weeks in hospitals and rehab facilities), but with everything that had to be done, especially for my Dad, I'm not sure how much I've really even processed my Mom's death. My Dad is healthy now but very weak from lying in a hospital bed for 6 weeks. He now has 24-hour care at home and will be getting physical therapy etc. to hopefully get him back on his feet. I was really worried about how my Mom's death would affect him (they had been married for almost 59 years), but he took the news of her passing much better than I had feared (I was so worried he might just spiral downward). I don't think he was as surprised as the rest of us by her death since he saw her every day and could see her getting weaker. And then on top of everything else, my sister slipped and broke her wrist on Friday, so there we were, back in the same ER where my mother had passed away almost exactly a week prior. Just unbelievable! So it's been a trying 6 weeks for my family, but we will get through it.

And in actual cc news, I "Bonvoyed" Bonvoy and cancelled my former Amex SPG biz card today.

 so sorry.

DS’s referral saga is concluded with a happy ending. The assistant principal interviewed the eye witness, removed the referral and apologized profusely. She, also, had his math teacher allow his to re-take a test that he had totally bombed when he was in the resource center and wasn’t in any condition to be taking a major assessment. So all is well again.

Now to continue with my staff appreciation plans that the principals seemed to really like and can see that I am not harboring any ill will. I started the pencil wands today and they look pretty awesome although I still have a 100 to go. I ran out of hot glue sticks and had to go get more.

Seriously! We’ll have $800 in free travel soon. And it only dropped a couple of points. You’d think he was in the 700s now.

Miles, to me, are a valuable commodity. So I'd call and see if I could get someone to waive fees and if not, I'd pay the penalty.

You mean his “support” saga......

:rotfl2: :rotfl:  :lmao:

Does anyone know if Lowes or Staples sells Best Buy GC? I need another Roku ultra and BB has them on sale for $88 this week. Was thinking I could get another 10% off if I get a gc first.
I don't think either sells Best Buy gift cards. Staples is offering $5 off their $200 dollar Visa gift card activation fee this week - brings the activation fee down to $2 or 2%. Not quite fee-free, but still a pretty good way to use your 10% offer. You probably know about using swagbucks at Best Buy for 9.5-10.5% cash back when spending $100, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

I have never really paid attention to the "other" cards. We have been focusing on Chase. Would it be dumb to get one of us the Barclay Arrival plus with the 70k bonus sign up? We are both 3/24, though I think I would get for DH. He has one dropping next month and he just got the CIP so we are slowing with Chase anyway. Actually nothing in Chase I think he needs at the moment anyway. Does anyone know when this offer ends? We just got the CIP, and I am hoping we don't have $10k in spend in the next 3 months so would like to wait a few weeks. Does Mastercard still work with mortgages on Plastiq? Is it straight up or do you have to do a work around? My mortgage is not big and 3 months will only get me halfway, but it could be helpful. Also, are there no support links for these?

I would call and explain the situation. Hopefully, they will waive the redeposit fee. I would probably call a time or two, if the first person isn't willing to waive the fee. I have found the Delta agents to be more than fair when we have had issues. I have had them reinstate companion tickets when our plans changed suddenly. We value Delta points, so I would pay the fee if necessary. Best of luck!!

who actually MS in here? was curious.
I don't consider what I do to be MS, but it may be sort of similar. Lately I've been buying Visa gift cards at Staples and Lowes using 10% back AmEx offers or MY CIC. If I were MS-ing, I would probably use those VGF's to load a Serve card to transfer money back to my checking account. Instead, I'm using the VGF's to purchase gift cards for Disney or Amazon, adding additional cash back with swagbucks. Does this count as MS? I'm not really sure.

Are you under 5/24? If so, why not just apply for the CIU and get the bonus?
I just opened CIP #2. I can still do the CIC for the SUB next and I wan the CIU for all my non cat spend now. I can still get the CIU with SUB later right...since I'm not getting the SUB when I PC it? Or do I need to wait 24mths after I PC'd to it?

You could always churn through the Platinum cards (and any other MR-earning card) and end up with the Charles Schwab flavor, which lets you cash out all your MRs at 1.25 cpp.
I don't have enough faith in amex that I won't get a popup or not get a popup and not get the SUB to put that much spend on a bunch of their cards. Maybe when I am out of other options. DH is out of the game in case we find a house we want to buy in the next few months.

I will keep you posted- right now we have a big ol' credit sitting on my Amex statement and the MRs haven't been refunded - credit came through late last week, so at first I was just thinking that the MR reversal was just slow (and the credit would be offset when the MRs were refunded), but no sign of that yet. I will let it ride and see what happens. I did go back and try to find if there was a reference to what happens when you cancel a MR reservation, but couldn't find any fine print that applied.

Just found this. I think this may be really awesome news!

I went ahead and paid the penalty. I couldn't get the fee waived. But it was even more miles than I thought and it was $150 a head.
Whatever. I made a ton on the ticket resale so there's that I guess.
