My DH hasn't activated his employee card for my new CIU yet because he was having issues doing it online. He tried it again this morning and I noticed it has a different number than my card. Our CIP and CIC cards have the same number. Is this a new thing? Or is something messed up with our cards?

just looked at my Chase business cards...CIP, CIC and CIU...different numbers on all for DH

I have a large purchase coming up and I'm in a quandary: trying to get back under 5/24 with Chase.

But - which card to put the 5K on??? Seems to me that none of my existing cards will pay me much more than $50 in value.

Was thinking about getting the navy fed card with the 50K bonus. This would give me 60K points - it's a 2% card with $49 annual fee - which I can cash out for Visa Gift cards worth $600 or $650 plus if I wait until they have a promo. This would push my 5/24 back another couple of months.

Should I push this button or wait it out?

I should mention that I'm not in the market for AA miles or the graavy train.

Glad I expedited my CIP - made the sting of the $300+ my endodontist evaluation cost (not to actually fix anything, just to figure out what was going on) a little less painful. Insurance won't pay for 3D x-rays, and whatever is going in is in a weird place, so my options were $250 for the additional x-ray or hope that the doc's guess was right. At least they told me up front what it would cost - and between my shiny new CIP and my fully funded HSA, I said go for it. Looks like I will have a big assist getting to the MSR thanks to my weird tooth - so ick for dental work, but yay for MSR covered by my HSA. This hobby does weird things to people.

Anyone been to Portugal? Thinking of either Lisbon or Porto as one stop in our prospective Europe trip - seeing good award availability flying through either, and with United it doesn't cost any more points to do 2 stops in Europe. Thinking Vienna and someplace in Portugal - yes, its kinda random, but Portugal is relatively inexpensive for Europe, which will balance out Vienna, which will be $$$. My plan A was Budapest, but DH isn't crazy about going someplace with an authoritarian regime and lots of anti-immigrant sentiment (and I said if all you do is watch the news, the US wouldn't look so hot at the moment either, but I see his point.) I have a friend at work who has family in Portugal, so I'm definitely going to bug him for insight, but he isn't here today.

Is there any other business card you can get? Amex Biz Gold? I know you have the pink gold.

I'm sort of in the same quandary. Close to being back under 5/24. STILL need to pay off the balance of my summer cruise (so over 2k) and need a new card.

I wasn't really interested in the Graavy train either but I don't have many other options at this point.

I find that more interesting that the CIP and CIC cards are the same number. Since the statements list out the total charges per card number it always made sense to me that each card would be different. That way you can track who is spending what within your company. Unfortunately we totally didn't look at the employee card we ordered on hubby's account, it was for FIL in case he had to do an extended stay, so when it showed up we handed it over. I guess since they list the name too that was what separated it? Seems odd that they'd give every employee the same card number within the company. Maybe the CVV is different and that's what keeps you from impersonating BobbySue in accounting when you buy your questionable "office supplies" ;)

How are you getting targeted for all these Chase surveys?!
I signed up for Chase Insights. They send surveys every few weeks, I don't always do them. This one was about comparing the language in two different emails. For a "hotel" card, spend an extra 15K and get 1 free night up to Cat 4 and 3 free Cat 1 nights.

Survey reward is usually a drawing for giftcard of varying amounts (they give out a few per survey). The CSR one I did, I was then invited to an online discussion for a $50 GC, which they did pay out. There are a few GC options, I chose Amazon because most were restaurant that I wouldn't use.

I think I'm over my little club level joke now too. It was always a half-joke...and I looked into what club level gets you...which is basically nothing for me. We eat breakfast in the room, are at the parks all day, enjoy the restaurants and don't drink a drop of alcohol. I'm sure it makes sense for some...but for those of you who like club level, am I missing something? (based on my preferences that is).

That's all for this AA Miles update, lol!

I think it is where you are in the Disney trip thing. You go about once a year and you go all out with the parks and your children are also at that age where you enjoy the parks. You don't seem to yet have a time slot for stopping and smelling the roses and that's not a bad thing. You've still got a lot of energy!

For some of us going to Disney it is more laid back and that's where club level shines. I'm rarely going to do rope drop - maybe once in a trip. I'm more likely to shut a park down after arriving very late.

For me there is value in waking up and mosey'ing down to the lounge for a nice cup of coffee and a pastry and relaxing. I might take it to the room or I might fill a to go cup with the coffee and go for a walk around the resort and sit somewhere pleasant to enjoy watching Disney World wake up early in the morning.

I do not depend on club level to provide enough food to eliminate meals. I just like the convenience and casualness of it and the fact I can walk in and help myself and walk out and rarely have to interact with another person when I'm in morning mode. If family is with me, we don't all have to be there at one time and I can join them even after I've already eaten something earlier.

I'm also not going to drink them dry of their alcohol offerings, but if I feel like a half a glass of wine, it's there.

I've only done club level at Poly and AKL (and Swan when they had it) but if I can get it cheap or free than I want it.

Dh and I just saw captain marvel. I thought it looked so stupid and Dh was the one that wanted to see it. I have to say it was so good! I think that might be because my expectations were so low, but I really enjoyed it. The only part I didn’t love was the cat. It was funny, but I thought it was just thrown in there for some laughs without being explained at all

We all loved it, and DH is so over Marvel movies. The cat was a character in the comics, so not thrown in just for fun. Some cat facts if you are interested LOL … https://www.slashfilm.com/captain-marvel-cat/

Question re booking Hyatt on points- I used Dh's acct to book a room but I'll be checking in for a girls trip...is this allowed? I added my name to special request box, will this work? Or should I have him call

Well dang. Maybe they are all different! That would explain why DH's charges weren't triggering cashback on Dosh. I was rushing this morning and am in a Dayquil fog so I didn't look at the other cards, just assumed they were the same. I guess it makes sense for an employee to have a different number. Weird that they are just now asking him to set up a business account online.

Drat, no mention of within or without the footprint. One reply mentioned a comment that someone outside the footprint was denied opening so I'm still on the lookout since I am very much not in that region. But being that an Ink card worked as a purchase is very promising. Single no-fee charge, with no money OOP, to meet a CIP MSR? Yes, please... I'll take two :p

I'm expediting my CIP. When it comes, I am going to attempt to open this account. I am nowhere near that bank so I will be sure to post the results.

I don't want to do Amex and I can't do Chase. The reason I don't want to do Amex is I have 5 Amex cards, 4 of which I've put very little spend on in the last year. And for the last 3 months I've been putting most of my spend on the Rose Gold and the rest on my Citi Costco when I shop Costco or get gas. I used the Amtrak when they had the 3% up til New Years.

Ah, ok. So the CM discount varies?
Is the TIW card good everywhere? Thinking about getting one if we get APs in aug.

Was one of the options “I despise the card hocking shill”?
Other (please tell us the reason) :rotfl:
American Express Starts Building New York JFK’s Centurion Lounge - TPG

Quite a bit behind schedule. JFK’s Centurion Lounge was supposed to open in 2019; now it’s looking like early 2020.
I haven't heard or found a peep on Denver's. That doesn't make me feel great. I haven't been to the airport since Jan now and at the time didn't see anything going on in that area.
Hmmmmmm...I'll need to think about that one then. My wife can't go for another Citi Biz card until 5/26 so that won't work. It has to be a MasterCard for a mortgage I believe and the only other MSRs we'll be looking at during that time is a $5k on my CIP (Visa). I'll probably go for CIP#2 for my wife in June then if that's still working. I don't have any other Mastercards worth looking at.

My other options then would be:
  • Run $10k on my Citi Biz knowing that I'm eating $122 in fees on that second $5k but only earning $50 towards Disney. Of course that would then qualify me for another $10k in fee free spend to use which saves me money.
  • OR one of us could devote a personal slot to a Citi AA card and go that route
  • OR I could abandon the $10k promo and just not over-complicate all of this. We only owe about $20k on the mortgage and that decreases each month as we make our payment obviously. I probably couldn't fully maximize the promo anyways...
I love making things complicated by over-analyzing.
Mainly I quoted this because I have also been over-analyzing the Plastiq Biz offer...

Thanks - this is great insight. :) I appreciate everybody who weighed in to help me realize this doesn't do much for us.

I'll also add that based on our genes, we may never get "there". My 66 yr old father and 59 yr old mother still do rope drop and spend all day in the parks when they go down there!! That's just how we roll

Have you tried touring plans dot com Reservation finder?
I have the alert set up! :)

@calypso726 - I meant to comment earlier that your beautiful photos have all but convinced us to book the Maldives for our honeymoon. We've been looking at Tahiti, Bora Bora, a few others... but we keep coming back to the Maldives. That underwater restaurant is a must-do! Thank you for sharing!

That's great! For me, I had years where I went as often as 5 trips. That's a lot of Disney. Then I started looking for other things to do in Florida.
