Rice in the instant pot is great!! The ratios are different though, depending on the kind of rice, so make sure to check the charts.

DCL priced me out years ago. Our last was 2011 and we won't be back. I just can't justify it. Plus, unless we go with a big group, we actually get bored LOL.
Thanks. We only use one type of rice in our house so no checking necessary :)

@mhartman09 - I’m so sorry for the hard times you’ve been going through and the loss of your grandma. It’s taken me a while to process because reading your story was almost like reliving what happened to my MIL. When we went through that loss last summer, I remember so many of you here shared your sympathies, your stories and kind words. I’m not sure I have the right words of comfort for you, but just know that I’m here — we’re all here — for you and thinking about your family. :grouphug:

Working on catching up since I'm over 100 pages behind after a crazy few weeks. About 3 weeks ago I started running fever, feeling very tired and throat was burning so I headed in to urgent care thinking it was flu. Flu test was negative and dr said there was no reason to test for strep. He gave me antibiotics and cough syrup and sent me on my way. Still felt pretty bad for a few days, but things finally seemed to subside about 4 days later. Same evening I started to feel somewhat like myself I again I got a call from my mom saying my grandma was being admitted to the hospital because they thought she was having seizures. She said she was heading there (about a half hour away from where we live) and she would keep me posted, but not to worry too much because they should be able to get it under control. Just 10 minutes after we hung up she called back very frantic saying things took as turn for the worst anx the doctors didnt expect her to make it through the night. Unfortunately neither myself or my mom made it to the hospital before she passed. I was about 10 minutes away when I got a call from my aunt with the news. That was definitely a muddled evening after that, as were the next several days. Fast forward 4 more days and DS 7 tells us he had a really bad headache. I reach out to touch his head and he is burning up with a 103.8 temp. Took him in to urgent care and he was positive for flu. Got meds for him and headed home. His fever kept spiking to above 103 several times over the next 24 hours, so that was rough. So hard when kiddos are sick and there isn't much we can do for them. DH and I spent the next week rotating days off work to be with him. Luckily things started getting better around a week mark and he's just about back to himself.

Our schools are out this week for Mardi Gras, so technically he got a 2 week break for the holiday. Hoping it's not too bad getting us all babk to our normal routine by next week. With such tumultuous weeks, we have been all over the place, sleeping in and unable to sleep at night.

In CC news, I made a rookie mistake with my SW biz for CP. Already got the SUB (still can't get used to this one) on my in-flight SW Plus. Was just waiting for the one from my biz card, but I completely forgot the MSR on that one is $3000 and not $2000 like the personals. I always try to make a point to go a good bit over on MSR just in case of returns or something, but I was just about $300 shy of the $3000 when my statement cut on 2/20. Ugh. So now I have to wait until 3/20 statement for the rest of the points I need for CP. Already have flights booked for our April WDW trip and was waiting to add DH as my companion. Decided to just go ahead and use points to book him, then I'll call in once CP posts.

Off to check out the news thread on dischurners to try to catch up.

Gave you a support like before, sorry for your loss. Seems like bad things like to travel in packs and you got sideswiped there by them. I definitely wouldn't worry about catching up here, the news should do it, but I highly recommend starting to read here for a little levity to try to ease the funk - https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/comments/aj6vx6/comment/ehqxdi8

This sounds kinda like a Disney Bus Driver rumor..."a person I know in a facebook group heard a rumor from a banker who received an email from corporate"...

Maybe it's true...but in my experience banks don't communicate major changes to low-level branch folk until they're ready to release the changes ASAP. I'm a pretty important person in commercial banking and can tell you that I do not get ANY early heads up on stuff like this, lol! (EDIT: I could be wrong but it would seem stupid to me for Chase to release info like this to branch employees - they could basically tell them the morning of their shift when they make the change)

Link for those that care to read the hype and speculation: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/ax5xju/discussion_thread_march_04_2019/ehtf22y/
They can keep their 25% and give me disney back and we will call it even.

So in the saga of get to HNL for SB I actually managed to work out everything and either purchase flights or have them on hold. But then the reality of the $700 I just dropped on the water heater hit. And then the fact that tickets plus rental car was still costing me $1100 (don't get me wrong, GREAT price...but single mom here). And then I'd have to bank on getting all the hotels free (which I think I could). I don't really have time to save up for activities (I mean it's 4/1, less than a month). I do have the money from my granny dying, but I don't want to necessarily use that. And then my mom (has stage 4 cancer) really wanted to go and was getting $$$$ quotes. Once I sat down and looked we'd be leaving Detroit at 5:50am flying to Dallas. Dallas to Oakland. Then a few hours in Oakland before heading to HNL. We would arrive at 3:30am our time! My kids are warriors, but OMG, that would kill me.

So I cancelled everything last night and I know with time and planning I can figure out heading to Hawaii w/ my kids and my mom :) Now back to the drawing board on where to go for SB, LOL. My kids are lobbying hard for Cali. So maybe I'll buckle down and look at those flights. There are a few airports that are discount for March/April. Maybe I can sneak into the AA rebate once more.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My grandfather passed unexpectedly a couple years ago. It is so hard for the survivors when an otherwise healthy person is suddenly gone. Hugs.

Thanks. We only use one type of rice in our house so no checking necessary :)

What type do you use?

I like sticky rice, but we also do Arborio, basmati or jasmine depending on what we are cooking.

Trying to decide how I want to book hotels for a couple different horse shows...

I only need two more hotels. com nights before I get a free night, so I have a one-night stay booked through them for this weekend. But I could do a 10x UR booking... OR I could book through Choice hotels. But how often am I really going to stay at a Choice hotel this year to make it worth my while for a points booking... and I'd like to have the 10x UR. But I could earn Swagbucks booking through hotels. com or Choice.

Decisions!! I'm wrapped up in how to get the maximum discount lol.

Well I ended up scrapping all of this and booking directly with Choice Hotels for the next two horse shows and went through Ebates. Ebates was offering 10% back on Choice stays, and we're staying at a Comfort Inn this weekend and a Quality Inn next weekend. Choice is also currently running a promotion to stay two separate nights from Feb 26-April 26 and earn enough points for a free night's stay. That will work perfectly for us since we will most likely be staying at that same Comfort Inn at the end of April.

DHs SW Biz SUB is in his RR account! And I can see my paystub for Friday today and it looks like it's going to DD into his new BoA account with no issues! Then I want to get Chase rolling, I think.

Unexpected is the worst :sad1:
