These prices for Southwest to Hawaii are insane! I'm glad im on the West Coast. We were already going next year
because i have to get rid of a credit from Hawaiian airlines.

The interisland prices are SO NEEDED! Hawaiian wanted around 80-100 bucks to be in the plane around 30 minutes.

Thank you Southwest! Hoping these prices will help people who have never been to Hawaii or would like to return.

Chatter from r/churning:

Possible to fly to Hawaii in a day, impossible coming back since SW does not fly overnight. Have to stop in Cali and then fly back to east the next day.

Edit: Possible to book in a single day, cannot book from ATL, MCO, FLL, etc direct to Hawaii as it comes back with an error. Was able to find from DEN with a stop in OAK so could fly to DEN early morning and then on to HNL.

If you want to make use of it from the East Coast, you're going to need a positioning flight or be ok with spending a day or two in the Bay Area - which could be a fun trip nonetheless... it just depends on how much time you have.

Same from MSP. Some dates are possible, but not many more than 2 months from now. We would probably like a day or two in the Bay Area but it might not work for vacation time (we get 4+ weeks but I have no problem using all our days). I would probably benefit more from a fare war, but we shall see. I will say I am tempted by the SW cards for the first time. Connections are pretty much a give for HNL, so the normal issue with SW requiring connections to most destinations isn't an issue. I might know what my next two cards will be...

Ok, I need some advice on what card to get next and which ones I should keep on the near horizon. The myriad of rules that are ever changing is hard for me to keep track of. I have a lot of summer camp fees that I am going to be paying for soon and I'd like to use those to knock off some MSR's.

Here's what we have:

DH:

10/16 - CSR
04/17 - Hilton AmEx Surpass
12/17 - AmEx Delta Gold Personal - Cancelled 12/18 when the AF posted
07/17 - Chase Freedom UL
11/17 - Chase IHG
07/18 - Chase Hyatt

He also has a Freedom, Hilton AmEx and Chase Marriott that he has had for over 24+ months. We took the upgrade on the Marriott so that knocks out that card.

Me:

02/17 - Chase Marriott - Took the upgrade on this one as well
04/17 - Chase SP - product changed it to Freedom 5/18
05/17 - Chase Freedom
11/16 - AmEx Hilton
02/15 - Am Ex Delta Gold - Thinking about product changing this to the Everyday Blue no fee card
04/18 - CIC
07/18 - Chase IHG Premier
09/18 - Chase Hyatt
11/18 - Am Ex Delta Plat Personal - Which is why I want to get rid of the Delta Gold, no need for 2.

I closed a AmEx SPG card I had 04/18. We are not opposed to Biz cards or AF's I just need them to make sense for us. We currently have around 350k of UR's and then various amount of Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, Marriott, Delta and SW points. The past two years DH had the CP for SW so we have been flying primarily SW although to take them we have to drive to an airport about 2 hours away. Locally we are limited to Delta and American. I've toyed with the idea of trying to get the CP for one of us next year.

As far as travel plans, we primarily go out west. Very limited travel on the east coast. I'm trying to figure out travel for 2020. Ideas that have been floated are Southern CA/DL trip and then possibly England/Ireland/Scotland. My thought was to use Hyatt and IHG if we went the Great Britain route and possibly try to get enough American points for flying there so I'm not opposed to the GrAAvy train either as we can always use American points locally should we not go overseas.

Thanks!

Speaking of Hawaii...has anyone stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui? We're looking to do 5 nights in Maui and then 5 at Aulani. Originally I wanted to stay at the Grand Wailea, but with the Amex bonus issues I'm not sure if we'll be able to get enough Hilton points together to stay there. Hyatt Regency looks nice and doesn't look like it would be too hard to cover with points.

Okay damn ya'll. You have me crunching taking my kids (and mom) to Hawaii now for Spring break. Between points and what not I can get us from Detroit to Hawaii for $250/person. And with the 2 free hilton nights, the hilton points and my IHG points, I think I could probably get the hotels covered (my mom has Amex points too). OMG, my kids would FLIP THEIR ****! I think my mom is on board. Now to book all the various tickets to pull this off.

Not gonna be me. lol I do want kids but I think that is still years away. I want to get a little more settled. Although I’m getting baby fever. SO and I are at the parks and he keeps pointing out these adorable babies. It’s not helping lol.

Travel with your baby! You should check out the bucket list family on YouTube. They had three kids and up until very recently they were a full time traveling family. They have a baby that’s 1 now and he has already been on more flights and been to more countries than me.
Omg, you guys have me cracking up with all this baby talk, love it! My DD3 loves traveling since she is so used to it. She's been on a plane several times, a ferry several times, and now she asks all the time if we can go on 'cation. Definitely helps to start them young! Her choice of transportation is airplane!

@wendow , I love your new profile pic...so cute!

Our 3 yo is the same. We were leaving yesterday to go shopping and she put on her Minnie ears and said she would rather go to Disney instead. Other than the (weirdly predictable) family tension as we are ready to board the plane, we all love our plane trips.

This probably doesn't apply to most but anyone trying for the TD Bank bonus that has up to $1000 in cc funding here is a DP: the Citi AA Biz, even with a lowered cash advance to zero, would not work for funding. It got rejected and now I have to go into a branch to fund the account or it will close. I thought I was being slick and was going to knock out my MSR in one transaction. I'm probably going to forget the TD Bank one and try to fund another bank bonus offer. Liberty's bonus is only $100 but you can fund $500 and its a very easy bonus to meet.

Also, the Disney "souvenir" talk reminds me of something that happened when we checked into a cruise when our son was a baby. This is from my trip report:
We got there around 12:15 and got checked in quickly. It was kind of funny (and strange), the man who checked us in asked us if it was our first cruise. I said that it was Rory’s first cruise, but our third cruise. He asked when our last one was and I said September 2012. He said “was he conceived on the cruise?” What? Really? I said “no, actually I found out two days before the cruise that we were expecting him”. And he said “Oh, I thought he was a cruise baby”! I couldn’t get over how strange that was.

Haha, love it! We had to wake DD up early recently and she thought that meant we were going to Disney since we usually take the first flight out and wake her really early. She was SO upset we weren't going to the airport!

Haha, maybe not to some, but I'm not missing anything from life. And believe me, I've spent what I would pay in college tuition several times over on my horses. They're easier to meet MSRs on than kids sometimes

Lol, not criticizing you! I was saying I didn't want kids early right up until I got pregnant. I was 25 when I had my first and turned 26 3 weeks later. That was 'old' in my day - everybody else had them at 21 or 22.

But, the difference in kids is huge so not everyone is going to want the responsibility.

The horses probably live in a barn or a pasture. Feed them once or twice a day and give them the necessary training and care which I'm sure is pricey.

The cats can be left to fend for a day or two if you aren't around - leave food and water.

The dog goes potty in the back yard. Right now I have a training potty in my bathroom.

Kids - you do everything and they are still whining and finding something to cry about. (Can you tell I just spent the weekend with my grands?) They make you love them forever. You will never trade them in like you may do with a horse. They are a constant responsibility that if you try to shirk, the law will come after you <g>. And the older they get (age 40 in my case) they still want your attention and help whatever that might entail.

All good, whether it's kids or animals but, I still say not the same as the responsibility is beyond compare.

Go look. Concierge level on one of the Greek Isles sailings is $33k.

We have to get DH a new car next year... which is around the same price as a week-long trip. I am just baffled by this.

I can't find this with english subtitles, but... this is how I feel about looking at some of those prices:

Think your post got lost in all the excitement of Hawaii talk. Which I’m excited about btw. Thinking about a San Fran/Maui trip now. But the 10 hours in a plane might be a hard sell..

Approval on the CIC for me on Saturday. Applied on Friday morning..had a bit of panic on Friday afternoon when status went to two weeks and I couldn't remember if that was the bad or good one. I was a little worried as this was my 5th Chase card in the past year so it is definitely time to branch out for me. So we will be working on DH CIU MSR, my CIC, but with an unexpected medical expense that we will have unless I win my appeal, we will be done with the CIU as soon as I found out about the appeal. Hopefully this week. So I'm thinking about the AA cards and trying for the Barclay's 60,000 since it's only $1000 MSR. @Calfan I see you did the Barclays AA with single purchase on Saturday. Where did you find that offer? All I can find is the $1000 MSR.

1. Is it okay to go for the Barclay this week? Or too soon? Looks like I have four hard inquiries on TransUnion. My stats

06/15/18 CHASE Sapphire Preferred
09/21/18 CHASE SW Biz
10/19/18 CHASE SW Plus
12/19/18 CHASE Ink Preferred
03/02/19 CHASE Ink Cash

2. I know most are chasing these AA miles for either flights or Disney hotels, but is there value for other hotels? We could use them for flights next year, but it would be nice if we could also use them for hotels other than Disney.

Thank you!
You can go for Barclay. I do think they can be sensitive to a lot of inquiries but if it’s your first card with them you might be ok
I def think there is value for other hotels with AA miles. I was looking at other spots and I think they are all round .01 per mile which is an ok value

No worries! :) It's definitely not the same responsibility- but I don't want that responsibility! :rotfl: I'm almost 30 and am currently not feeling any ticking time bombs :hourglass

I wasn’t able to use a biz card to fund a bank account either. I called to do it over the phone and lady said it had to be a personal cc. Maybe that was same issue for you??

Haha. I could see that happening to us! We always leave so early for FL and that is pretty much the only time we wake her up.
