Good to know. I had DD tested also. She is also lazy and her school problems were thought to be related to that and "inattention." She does have ADHD also, so that wasn't a surprise. She has no interest in the academic part of school (just the social :upsidedow), she's a freshman now. But does like computer programming and plans on taking an AP computer programming class next year. o_O We'll see how that goes. Hoping that she'll get her act together so she'll get into a college.......
My DS was on the immature side, always trying to make other kids laugh in class, etc. I really think they eventually grow out of it. He did really well going to a technical college versus a 4 year. They just need to find what they like. Good luck to your DD, I hope she likes the computer programming class!

So there's some hope for the class clown? I'm at my wits' end:( Feeling so helpless and discouraged.

Thanks guys! I just looked up the CIC and CIU but all I’m seeing is cash back offers for sign ups.
Does anyone have a referral for the 50k they want to send to me?
There are no support links on CIC and CIU...so no worries.

Also we can't do referrals on the DIS, that's not allowed ;) ;)

On an unrelated note, I hear that DISchurners on reddit is a super awesome place :) :)

No referrals on the CIU or CIC....the sign up bonus is 50K URs...which you could keep as URs or cash out for $500

What @palhockeymomof2 said. On the CIC and CIU, you receive the $500 bonus in the form of 50,000 UR points, which you can cash out for $500 or transfer the points to another of Chase's cards for travel redemption.

Technically, the CIC and CIU are Chase's "cash back" cards, but you earn cash back in the form of UR points. You'll need one of Chase's premium, annual fee cards -- the CIP, CSP, or CSR -- in order to transfer UR points to airline and hotel partners, or receive a 25% or 50% bonus value on redemptions through the UR travel portal.

Yes, believe me, I felt the same. DS didn't even take the SAT's...that's how much he didn't care about school. I just kept pushing he HAD to go to college. He is a gamer and is good with a computer and technical college (New England Institute of Technology) was the best thing for him. He didn't have to take literature, foreign language and all the classes he struggled with. He even made Dean's List his first semester.

Twitter Campaign Update...
I called the number in that tweet - it was the travel booking desk. They ultimately got me connected to CHASE and I had a 20 minute call with an Account Supervisor about my concerns. She listened and sounded sincerely interested in my concerns. She was aware of the issue but somewhat indicated that they felt it wouldn't affect a lot of people.

I then discussed how many Disney fans there are out on various message boards that are very upset about the change. She did ask why I didn't just use my Disney cards to earn points for Disney and I was very complimentary of how robust and awesome the Ultimate Rewards program is when it comes to earning points and that it is much better than 1% on a Disney card. She definitely understood where I was coming from there.

If you want to continue the fight and can spare 10-20 minutes here's what to do:
  • Call the number on the back of your Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (preferably one of these 2)
  • Tell the rep that you want to speak to an ACCOUNT SUPERVISOR who handles ULTIMATE REWARDS. Make sure they're aware you are voicing a complaint about using your Ultimate Rewards for travel.
  • Politely explain how sad you are about losing URs for Disney World
Guys, I know we're grasping at straws here but perhaps if we bombard them with phone calls over the next week they'll realize that this is a significant issue. If you don't have time or really don't care (or think this is dumb), no worries, LOL!

I will call tomorrow!

airliners.net
Thought I had included that, kids and husband interrupting me.
No worries - I was sharing in another group and was like...hmmm other than saying "some random Disney fan said this" I didn't know where to attribute it to, LOL!!

Chase's Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card (formerly the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card) is now LIVE.

https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/ma...MI1Lmy2rrf4AIVxiCtBh1m_QiXEAAYAyAAEgL9jfD_BwE (not a referral link).

The signup bonus is similar to what's running over on Amex's side: 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $5,000 in 3 months of your account opening.

Note that this card is subject to Chase's 5/24 rule, will add to your */24 count, and comes with the following eligibility restrictions:

Eligibility for this product: The product is not available to either:
  • current cardmembers of the Marriott BonvoyTM Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier) or Marriott Bonvoy BoundlessTM credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), or
  • previous cardmembers of the Marriott BonvoyTM Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier) or Marriott Bonvoy BoundlessTM credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
If you are an existing Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott BonvoyTM Premier customer and would like this product, please call the number on the back of your card to see if you are eligible for an upgrade bonus.

Eligibility for the new cardmember bonus: The bonus is not available to you if you:
  • are a current cardmember, or were a previous cardmember within the last 30 days, of Marriott BonvoyTM American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express);
  • are a current or previous cardmember of either Marriott Bonvoy BusinessTM American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or Marriott Bonvoy BrilliantTM American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card), and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months; or
  • applied and were approved for Marriott Bonvoy BusinessTM American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or Marriott Bonvoy BrilliantTM American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest®American Express Luxury Card) within the last 90 days.
Getting approved for, and receiving a signup bonus on Chase's Marriott Bonvoy Boundless will also make you ineligible for Amex's Bonvoy Business and Bonvoy Brilliant card bonuses for at least the next 24 months.

What am I doing at 12:30am on a Wednesday you ask...

Well yes, I'm analyzing my tax options for dealing with my 1099s from referrals, LOL. My tax calculation spreadsheet is working overtime this year. I could justifiably back off the number by $1,580 by doing 3 things:
  • Adjusting MR valuation to 0.6cpp vs. 1cpp
  • Adjusting Delta points to the $270 in value I clearly got out of them (Target GC)
  • Adjusting my Hilton Pts to 30k @ 0.5cpp (side note: but I have now called AMEX 3 times about my missing 52,090 Hilton points. They stated I maxed referrals, Hilton has provided me records showing I only received 30k. The 1099 shows $550 but if I only got 30k then it should say $201)
  • I'm not looking to adjust Marriott points because all my SPG support pts were earned before the 3x conversion and due to that I actually got a really lenient number on the 1099.
  • Everything else I earned was valued at 1cpp and either was fair (URs, Disney) or generous (Southwest)
At any rate, if I make this adjustment, I can save about $540 on my taxes...And as usual I am paralyzed trying to make a decision.

I talk myself in circles: $540 is a lot of money...Yeah, but if you get audited do you want to have to defend your position...but what are the odds of getting audited?...but you were thinking of taking that childcare tax credit that is iffy, do you want that to get caught up in this...it's still a slim chance of being audited...well it's only $540, it's not that much money and you did get a lot of referrals...well maybe I should just take pay the $540 and take the childcare credit for $318 and that offsets a piece of it...well that still stinks because I never got those 52,090 hilton points and why am I paying taxes on something I never got (setting value aside for a moment)...

I need sleep, so I'm done debating this for the night. I'm hoping that AMEX will finally get me an answer in
the next week, that would really help resolve my major consternation. I told them I either wanted a revised 1099 (my preference) OR 52,090 Hilton points. The ineptitude of the people on the other end of that phone call though has me worried I'll call again next week and have to start all over again.

EDIT: I know I sound slightly crazy...lol.

Well, I’m not an accountant, just a former sweepstaker who won a few trips and such years ago. Several times I received wïldly inflated 1099s for things I won. In these cases, I’d always adjust to fair market value. I mean, who pays rack rates at hotels? I’d get quotes for the hotels and air for the time of the trip. As a matter of fact, although I don’t do sweepstaking nearly as much anymore, I did win a set of small appliances last year (think coffee maker, blender, etc.) and I did the same thing. I looked online for the exact models I had one and saw what the average selling price was. I adjusted the value down by a few hundred and I havent heard from the IRS yet! The thing is, I have documentation to defend what I adjusted to, and so do you, right? The only one I think is just a teensy bit iffy is the Target gift card for Delta points. Yes, that’s the value you got from those points, but you chose to do that. I think if I were in your shoes, I’d claim whatever the value would have been had you redeemed those points for flights, assuming it’s more. I’m not up on all the valuation stuff. Really, though, I’m sure you’ll be fine adjusting.

Churning wise update: made the one charge on new Amex Green Monday. 10k MR’s posted today. The referral bonus had already posted. You were right @Lain...it was the 10k MR’s instead of offered 5k.

Puerto Rico. My husband’s brother was working there in 2007 and we went there for a week. We stayed with them so not doing fancy hotel thing, but my memory of it was of all the roaming homeless starving dogs. Hopefully that has improved. Honestly it ruined the trip for me.
I'm not sure it has changed much. My sister work with a dog rescue and they got lots of dogs from PR

My oldest just turned 13. I was pretty excited about that, and I have four more coming up behind her. I foresee lots of time checking everyone's offers in my future!

I had never considered getting my kids cards until this thread and then it made so might sense. I hate trying to grab cash (I rarely carry any) to send with her to camps, etc. Just yesterday I had everyone in the car and needed one quick thing from the store. I was thinking how nice it will be when her card is here and I can just send her in and wait in the car. So far we haven't gotten the targeted Amex for adding AU's so I just added her to my CSP in the meantime. And I guess I could actually add my next one coming up to that one since I don't that we have to wait for 13 for it.

I wonder, do cashiers ever hassle kids using cards? Or make them show them the card/ID? I ask because I have a 12yo, turning 13yo in October and being able to have her run in for 1 thing would be AMAZING when we're out. I also never have cash.

i have been so busy at work lately (60-70+ hours a week) I almost screwed up and overlooked my SW Biz. I kept waiting for it in the mail, turns out it had been on my kitchen counter for who knows how long:scared:. It didn't automatically show up in my Chase Biz log in and I think I'm going to have to call to get it set up online. And of course, I hate talking on the phone. So, I'm not exactly sure when the statement closes. But! I met MSR today with a $7,236 charge, so hopefully my points will post before April 4 in case our short Universal trip comes to fruition. @SouthFayetteFan I have met most of my Chase MSRs in a similar fashion (all in one charge!). It's like mixing different colored laundry - nothing bad has happened yet so I'm going to keep doing it!! :rolleyes1 Then again, I frequently run large charges through our Biz cards so maybe it's not unusual activity for us?

Did anyone get an offer on their SW Rapid Rewards account for extra RR points? I had an offer that I would get a 15% bonus (up to 15,000 RR) on my account if I had RR post from a credit card within a certain date. Curious if anyone else has had anything like this?

To the book discussion - I follow Modern Mrs. Darcy and she posts on FB and her blog everyday the Kindle deals of the day. I've frequently been able to find best selling ebooks for $2 or $3!

!
I have that offer, you had to enroll in it. It will show under promotions in your SW account if you enrolled. I am guessing the bonus points don't post until the entire promotional period is over, because I haven't seen any bonus yet. No one really knows if the 50 or 60k bonus points will get the 15% bonus or not either yet.

Seems all I needed to do was post here. The replacements showed up yesterday for IHG. Amex didn't mess around and they overnighted those. But for the $450 annual fee, they should overnight replacements.

The new fun.....someone is attempting to log into my Citi account as I'm blocked from logging in and even resetting my login. GRRRR!
I got that same email yesterday :confused3

Thanks for responding! I'm curious about it too! If it works out that I get a bonus on the CC RR points posting then great! If not, it will be nice to have the bonus on the regular spend for the MSRs, especially since all you had to do was click a button to enroll.

The bonus is 40,000 points when you sign up and spend $500. The annual fee is $79. However, you earn a $100 flight voucher when you spend $2500 in a year, so the AF is pretty much a wash for us.

We're flying Frontier twice this year so far. The first trip is in April, so I doubt I'd be able to reap any of the benefits for that first trip. The second is in June though.

I don't know this card well, and I've been researching but haven't seen how quickly rewards are posted to your account. Every $1 you spend = 1 mile, and you can combine those points with miles to reach the threshold.

I believe I read that you earn your status effective for the year that you earned it (say April 2019 for me this year), and it's good through the following year. That could be advantageous for me for 2020. :)

Adding---I've found this on their website-
FRONTIER CREDIT CARD
FRONTIER Airlines World MasterCard® holders are automatically eligible. Apply for the card today and start pooling right away!

Doesn't that sound like I don't have to reach 20,000 miles to qualify for family pooling? Isn't a no-brainier then? I could have the 4 other tickets each trip. This year that's about 16,000 miles.

Yes, it does look like you get family pooling just for having the Frontier MC, so if that's a big draw for you and Frontier works for your travel plans then sure, it sounds good. In the T&C it says the bonus points post 4-6 weeks after the qualifying spend and annual fee is paid. So if you get the card really soon and can use it to buy your Frontier tickets (5x pts using the card) and pay the AF then you could have those points in your account by mid to late April if I'm reading that all correctly. In any case, you'd get the benefits (priority boarding) just by having the card.

It looks like the points redemption is fixed (10K one way, 20K roundtrip) no matter how much the ticket costs in cash, so if it were me I'd be using those points for the higher cost fares. And it looks like the $5.60/$11.20 taxes+fees are waived for the primary cardholder so that's pretty nice. It does look like everyone in the pool needs to have their own email address.

I haven't flown Frontier in 6 years and the last time I did, I bought refundable tickets which were great since I kept calling in whenever the fare dropped. The airline's owners have changed hands since then so I don't know much about them anymore. I'm a big stickler about finding out the cancelation policies of airfare...which is why I love Southwest so much. So I'd advise you to find out Frontier's policies on changes/cancelations, especially with 5 people in your party. The travel protections are one of the big things I appreciate about the Chase Sapphire cards, especially the Reserve.

Just know it will take up one of your personal card slots in the eyes of credit card issuers (namely Chase being the most picky). If it's your first Barclays card I'd imagine you would get approved without hassle.

ETA: P.S. The Discount Den membership might be worthwhile for you too, depending on the age of your kids!
