You all are awesome - thanks for all the ideas on getting London/Paris flights!!

Now, hopefully an easy question - if I have the CIP, and DH gets the CSP or CSR (and I'm an authorized user on his card), can we pool our URs?

Also, would DH getting one of those cards and me being an AU play into the 5/24 rule if/when I try to get the Chase Southwest card in February 2020?

Thanks!

Can you get it done at RIC? I haven't even looked into it yet but I need to.
Yes. So easy. Right at the airport. We walked in two minutes early and went right into the office. The guy who did it was so nice. Only thing he asked her was her address. Then he explained the card and using the passport machines (or whatever they are called). Way better than my experience getting tsa precheck at the dmv.

Good to know! I'm finally ordering my new passport soon and then need to get a card with GE credit lol.

I'd become AUs on the CIP to pool points. You don't want to add an AU on the CSP and/or CSR because that will add to your 5/24 count :)

I wondered if it was seasonal too, but I saw a nonstop VCE-PHL last night in mid-April 2019 (since you can't check out April 2020 yet). Trouble is, it was a mid-week flight, and I don't know if your dates are fixed or flexible. Like I said before, the availability changes all the time. Best case scenario I can figure for you is if you can convince your DH to allow one layover on the way back, and you find an acceptable routing from VCE-PHL using miles. If you book that award flight, you can change the date/times/route for no penalty (within 1 yr of booking) - AA allows changes as long as the origin & destination remain the same. Then you can check back frequently and if your desired VCE-PHL nonstop becomes available, get on the phone and make the change asap.
A VCE-PHL flight would be great for dh and me!

First off...I must say that the formatting of your cards is AMAZING :goodvibes:flower1: It just makes me so happy, LOL!!

Here's some thoughts:
  • I like the CIU card for you in April. Before you spring for the Hyatt, you could get another Chase biz card first. Of course you have the tri-fecta of CIC, CIU, CIP...how about a SW biz card? You seem to be eligible for the bonus and with the plans laid out, it doesn't seem like you are planning to go for a Southwest CP anytime soon...
  • Then maybe you get your Hyatt, Arrival, and Schwab Plat. (Spaced out as needed of course). That pushes you back to 7/24. At that point, if you wanted to get back under 5/24 you'd be waiting until May 2020. You may very well say goodbye to Chase and just keep rolling with personal cards from other issuers at that point (not sure what your long-term plans were). Maybe you get some additional MR personal cards at that point to really max out your Schwab earnings (Everyday, EDP, Green, etc.)
  • I see no reason why you can't get both the Arrival and a Barclay AA biz at some point in this whole train. I also don't think you need to apply for Arrival/Schwab/Hyatt and such on the same day. That doesn't seem necessary to me.
  • Your husband certainly has more runway then with a couple cards falling off. I think he would be looking for CIC, CIU, Hyatt, 2 SW cards, and of course the wonderful AA biz (maybe Citi and Barclays for a bunch of miles)! You can get him the Hyatt now but if you didn't, you'd probably be better off. He could get a CIC and CIU, then go for the SW CP with a biz/personal and then still have a slot for the Hyatt. If you do the Hyatt now and use that slot...you may not be able to get both CIC and CIU before CP time rolls around.
Awe glad it makes you happy it seriously from all the awesome guidance of this group. Love your thoughts! Thanks for taking the time for such a thorough response!
1. I could use the SW miles actually. I felt like x4 Chase biz cards might be pushing it. I know there are some DPs of people with 4 and if I space them out and lower CLs it just might work

2. Your right! I don’t really need to “break out” of 5/24 so quickly guns blazing. I think in my mind I needed to rush it - but I prefer your idea of taking my time (and spreading out some MSRs).

3. I can’t decide if I just throw caution to the wind and kiss 5/24 goodbye or keep it conservative. Then my plan would be exactly some more MR card and some Citi personals

4. I guess I could go for both Barclays. I’ve been putting some spend on my JB biz to keep them happy and I don’t want to do that forever. They were tough with DHs second card. I guess they could just deny and I move on.

5. I guess my thought with DH was to keep things quiet with Chase to ensure the CP. Again, you think 3 month spacing and lower CLs I could sneak in a business card and SW CP?

$20,000 spend sounds like a ton! Am I missing something? We normally fly frontier and get rates for as low as $28 one way

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. When she's ready, maybe @wed100105 can share her thought processes on the Frontier card. I don't know if I've heard anyone else mention it on this thread or the old one.

I'd become AUs on the CIP to pool points. You don't want to add an AU on the CSP and/or CSR because that will add to your 5/24 count :)

The only problem is the CIP only has a $5k limit. We're definitely going to get a new day-to-day card - either the CSP/CSR or the Capital One Venture. DH will need to be the one to qualify for either one (since I'm now "retired" and staying home with the kids . . . Capital One wasn't happy with that situation when I tried to be the one to qualify for the Venture card, even though it said I could use household income to qualify, but that's a different issue . . .).

If DH and I can't pool URs (mine from CIP and his/mine from CSP/CSR), then I'll probably go with the Venture card. As of today, when February 2020 rolls around, the only card I would have gotten in the last 24 months is the CIP (which I don't think counts towards 5/24 anyway, since it's a business card?), so we've got plenty of wiggle room in the 5/24 - so adding to my numbers by becoming an AU on DH's CSP/CSR doesn't really concern me as much as being sure we can pool URs.

1. I mean, Who can't use more SW miles??? (well probably me...but that's besides the point, LOL!)

2. It seems "guns blazing" is a common strategy advocated on r/churning. I'm more the patient type

3. That is a very tough call. I think if you asked people here, they'd lean towards staying with Chase. If you asked on r/churning they'd say you are crazy to not just go for broke.

4. If the worst that can happen is a denial, it's worth trying!

5. Well let's say this then maybe...instead of Hyatt, have him get a CIC. Then wait for your SW CP - now you're still 5/24 and then you get a CIU and cap it off with a Hyatt. Now you've taken those "2 slots" and turned it into 5 cards while still playing it safe :)

I should've added the link lol...I got a response from Chase on this one and I tweeted back a nice response myself then with a smiley face. And I played up our DISchurner group - not that Chase cares about 300 people, but you never know:

hahaha! I just went through your feed and was like heart, heart, heart- done! Something seemed a little off but I didn't really have time to think too much about it. THIS makes more sense.

What's a day to day card??? :P I'm always working on a new signup bonus :) LOL!

And you should absolutely pool points - get him an AU card on the CIP. It will allow you to pool points from all your cards without affecting 5/24 status. EDIT: Or just combine points without being an AU as @WVMomof3 says in the comment below this ;)

You don’t need to be an AU to pool points. DH is not on any of my cards and I send all my points to his CSR, which I am also not on.

Also, I have been “retired” for 15 years. I have plenty of cards in just my name using household income. It is not a problem. I have more credit extended to me than DH does.
