You can earn some extra United miles on your purchase. Shop PBK through the MileagePlus Shopping portal — there’s a first time shopper bonus right now. Then when you’re ready to checkout and pay, you can buy a PBK eGC in the exact amount you need on MPX to earn more United miles.
Dh got a 15% off coupon for joining pottery barn. We will probably just do that instead. Thanks though!

It could just be verification...they may want some documents faxed it.
What % of income is the CSR limit...if you want to reduce it you could SM chase

That’s baffling. Could be the CL from the csr. I’d definitely reduce that. Does he have any other chase biz cards? Maybe verification of some kind. Interested to see what his letter says.

My CSR limit was $32k when I applied for a CIP and got approved. I doubt that’s it.

Could be recon. If he doesn’t want to call, just wait for the denial letter with the reason(s) to better prepare him for a call. And if he still won’t discuss recon with a rep, have him authorize you to talk over the phone on his behalf.

Was the mailer offer any different than the public or support link offers?

His CL on his one and only Chase card is about 9.5% of our total household income so I don't have any problems lowering it but I don't know if that will help.

I think he was slightly optimistic on his business income so maybe he'll need to mail in proof of some income or something.

I scoured the mailer and it looked the same as the public but thought since there was an invitation it would help. Yeah, not so much! I'll encourage him to call recon when the letter comes but I'm not going to push him.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I’m getting rid of my Hilton Biz in May regardless. I’ll probably apply for whatever the Blue Biz cars is before then though.

Plan for this month is to apply for SPG Biz for DH before the 28th. Need to get my tax refund back first as I’ll be using that to pay my student loan on DH’s Citi AA Biz to finish MSR. Then CIU on April 1 which I’ll knock out quickly by making a couple payments towards our September WDW trip. Yes, I could get 3x URs on CIP, but I want the additional URs from CIU to put towards our trip, so its a decent trade off.

I’ve been going over getting more Citi AA cards for us and need some input. I currently have about 125,000 AA miles for both of us (as soon as MSR is done on DH’s card this month). From everything I’m seeing this should be enough to get us to and from Japan in first, or at least business, on JAL. So I really don’t need more AA miles for that trip. But I guess part of me is just paranoid that there will be a devaluation and I’ll need more miles at the last minute. I guess I’m that case I could transfer SPG to AA if necessary?

Someone help assuage my fears lol.

Sorry can't assuage your fears - but please educate me on how to get return FC tix to Japan for ~60k AA miles each.

I’m definitely not the expert on this so I would encourage others to chime in!! But I searched on Alaska’s website from JFK to Tokyo and it’s showing FC for 60k per person. You can also search on BA’s website but I find it harder to use.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on the amount of miles necessary!

Oh I'm sorry!! I worded my original post poorly. I said I had 125k miles for both of us, but what I should have said is 125k miles EACH. So 250k total. I'm seeing 60k PER PERSON for JFK to Tokyo, so 120k should get us both there booking on one of our accounts, and 120k miles booking on the other account will get us back. I hope that helps!

PSA for those who may be new to booking partner awards and searching for partner awards. When you do a search on Alaska for JAL space the miles you see are for booking that award with Alaska. AA, BA and other partners may require a different number of miles. You have to search for JAL space on AS or BA but what those airlines want to charge may not be what AA is going to want if you are using AA miles. If you look at BA's award chart, you will see that they require 140,000 Avios and over $200 in taxes and fees for the same first class seat that AS requires 70,000 AS miles and $62. However, AA will require 80,000 AA miles for that same first class seat. Japan is Asia region 1. It just so happens that Alaska requires 60k miles each way for business class and so does AA. But if you read the fine print on AA's award chart, lie flat seats will be charged an additional 7500 AA miles. Taxes and fees were about $45 total for 2 people in business on my last booking for JAL business class seats using AA miles.

JAL business class seats are lie flat so you will need 67,500 per person each way. For two people that would be 270,000 miles.

@tink1970 - Check out this DP for some guidance on total credit lines with Chase: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/avpwbh/comment/ehhqvy5

The conventional wisdom with Chase is to keep their CLs at <50% of HHI, but that assumes the median range of US household incomes. For those with higher incomes, the <50% of HHI guideline may not apply, and at some point Chase will decide that it has extended an applicant more than sufficient credit. A reply in the above thread puts that point at $75k-$100k CL with Chase, but I’ve also seen >$70k.

P.S. I see you replied and it doesn’t seem like CLs with Chase is an issue.

Hmmm...I think I might need one and the lunchbox too. Maybe it will inspire me to pack my lunch rather than going out. I had been eyeing the Red Damask HP bedding in the PBTeen store for my bedroom.
Lol I originally started looking because I got an ad on disboards. I can preemptively buy nursery decor right....?

Realized on the way home that my Lux upgrade offer says available until 4/24... and DHs car registration will be due in June, and usually you can renew up to two months early online. Think I'll definitely be pulling the trigger.

Last night I was explaining to DH that his Lux is now the Bonvoy Brilliant and he told me that sounded like a lighting fixture company. Then I (re)explained the new rewards program name and he told me that Bonvoy just makes him think of Bomb Voyage from The Incredibles

HAHAHA! It does sound like a lighting fixture company. We will be re-evaluating whether or not we keep the Lux card. I can't bring myself to call it Bonvoy Brilliant. Feels like I'm on an SNL sketch about the entitled and the pretentious. A second Aspire card may be taking it's place down the line.

Wow, with the exception of the 2 Chase cards that poster is almost DH. So weird. I hope the letter sheds some light on it. Unlike my "business" he actually does professional consulting (testifies, edits journals, etc) in addition to his main job. :confused3

Not credit card related but another travel win for us today. I was able to get the second week in a 3BR 3bath townhouse at Marriott Lakeshore Reserve for our October trip. I saw the unit come available early this morning and had to repeat the 18 minute hold until the Interval International call center opened up. The advisor had to do a manual override to help get me this unit. She was AMAZING!!!!! I think she was as excited as I was by the end. The resort is 13 miles from WDW, but for our party of 9, the space and beautiful resort is well worth the drive.

I was curious, so went and checked on Alaska's website. Yes, it does show there are 60K one way awards in first class, BUT if you click on the award fare it will show F for the US portion of the flight and then Coach for the transpacific portion. Sneaky. If you see a seat symbol with two blue colors, it means a mixed cabin fare.

The above image I clipped from a Travel Codex article on finding award space on the Alaska website.

Maybe you already knew about that, but I wanted to be sure you know to look for that in your planning. For giggles, I compared it to the AA website and found different availability but some mixed cabin situation for saver business awards. The devil's in the details.

They do offer nonstop flights from JFK but the award flights are never the nonstop flights. The award flights will have you change planes (usually at LAX) & drop you into coach for the overseas portion, every time.

If you are checking right when the award is released you can find the direct flights. They just happen to go fairly quickly because you have people like me stalking websites to snatch first class as soon as they show up. Here are 2 first class seats and 2 business class seats from JFK - TYO available on 2 different direct flights for January that I found a few seconds ago.

Yes but anyone could buy EP. Plus some AP holders have EP.

Yes, but (at least in the past) the one you buy is not the same as the one you get while staying at their 3 premium hotels.

This may have changed, as we went several years ago after HP opened the first phase. We had unlimited rides on several attractions while people who paid for the pass only got one priority ride. Plus we got in early.

Can I just say something about how awesome you all are... :)

I love how this place embraces off-topic tangents and side track conversations. I love how people share personal stories (both happy and sad). I love how we can poke fun at each other and share memes and gifs (and even shun people all in good fun ;)) This place has become a community - when people post they aren't just random DIS members, I see your name or avatar and in a way I "know" you. Sometimes I venture away from our thread to other parts of the DIS and I don't realize that people don't want to form a community of friends. They just want answers or drama or something...and I try to be "me" and that backfires...badly sometimes.

This place is AMAZING, you guys are AWESOME, I don't just love credit cards, I love this thread and all my DISchurner friends :)

I couldn't agree more! :grouphug: I love this thread and all the awesome people on it!

If this is an effort to increase your “Likes” count so that I’ll never catch up to you, it’s working.

Oh I totally gave up on that idea :rotfl2:

Do they show JAL flights at all on AA? I’m not even sure I’ve checked. I’ve just been looked at BA and Alaska to check for award availability. AA wants an insane amount of miles to get you there on their planes, and it’s usually crappy flights!

JAL award flights are not searchable or bookable on AA. You have to search BA or AS and then call AA to book with your AA miles.

It's probably just verification. Did he use his name as the business name? And this was with SSN, not EIN?

AAAAARGGH - I've committed the cardinal sin......missed a payment on DWs CIP. :badpc::badpc:>:( Its only a day late - i thought I had everything set up before I went on vacation, but clearly missed one.

Anyone able to advise on likely impact of future chase personal card applications - I had the CSP or CSR lined up for DW in the near future. Do I need to wait a couple billing cycles before applying? longer?

So mad.....really need to get myself set up on mint or quicken or something. 30+ credit cards to manage is inviting the odd mishap here or there.

Call and tell to them you were on vacation and have a lot going on in your life. Remind them you are a loyal customer and always pay in time. They may reverse the late fee and give you “grace”. I’ve had success before

Maybe - DW won't want to be potentially answering questions about her 'business'. I am less worried about the late fee, and more concerned with the impact for future applications.

PSA for those who may be new to booking partner awards and searching for partner awards. When you do a search on Alaska for JAL space the miles you see are for booking that award with Alaska.

Thank you!!! I knew you'd have all the answers! I'm glad you posted that language about the lie-flat seats because I'd never noticed that before. I think I'll probaly pick up some Citi personal cards for DH and I. DH is under 5/24, but honestly he's already got 5 Chase cards with a 6th planned for next month so it's like, how many more does he really need... lol.

(Don't answer that, you're all going to tell me to get him way more )

I'm a night owl. What gets me is when i have to work at 3am, especially a few days in a row. I sleep maybe 3 hrs, work 12, come home and tend to stay up to 10ish... sleep a couple hours, work 12... then it catches up to me and I'll come home and fall asleep... wake for dinner then back to bed until the next morning!
Yep sounds like me lol. I really shouldn’t be staying up late because as a sub I could get a call any morning as early as 5.

Why not both? That’s what stacking is all about.
Turns out Dh didn’t pay attention and you can’t use the 15% on this item since it’s a last sale item. Can you explain the United thing to me again? Do we need to transfer points to United to buy a gift card through them? Then use that gift card to buy the backpack?

ETA: I got an email from United saying I can get 500 bonus miles but I have to spend $125 or more first and that’s way more than I need
