Question for all you parents of minors with passports...so my DD's passports are set to expire in 7/19. So I thought I would be proactive and get the renewal ball rolling in anticipation of any more government shutdowns. We don't have any international travel planned this year but are working on something for possibly 2020 and I thought that it was easier to renew. I went online and it looks like there is no renewal option if you were issued your passport prior to the age of 16. It appears that you just have to apply for a new passport - is that correct? If that's the case, then there is no rush and I'll just wait till I figure out next year and then apply for new passports for them.
That’s correct. They are new passports. DS is on his 2nd one and will have to have a 3rd one before he can get his “adult” 10 year passport.

This was a while ago...my daughter is 28 now but we did have to apply for a new passport for her...couldn’t renew

Yes, that’s correct. If your DD’s passport was issued before 16 it has to be a completely new application. No renewals. I’m debating waiting to get my DD’s passport “renewed” until she turns 16 the end of May. That way when it expires it won’t be for ten years instead of five, and she should also be able to renew rather than fill out a new application. Unless she gets married by that time and has a new last name. She’ll probably have to start over again in that case.

Yes, they will both likely have to go through this all over again once we get the second "new" one as they will be issued prior to age 16. The only way to avoid that I guess is to not travel which is not happening.

Thank you. For some reason I was thinking that they could just be renewed. We'll just wait a while now.

Thank you. Looks like I can remove it from my immediate to-do list and move it on down till later.

You can still just renew if you change your name. It's just like a regular renewal but you send a copy of your name change document, like the marriage certificate, when you mail it in. If you change your name within a year from issuance you don't have to pay a fee. After that it gets processed as a renewal and you pay the renewal fee.

Yep, got the $500 bonus (for DD + 10 debits), got the 1099. You should expect to receive one.

I've seen a lot of "experts" on reddit stating that a bonus requiring only debit purchases is considered a rebate and is thus not taxable. That sounds like BS to me, every bonus fine print says otherwise. And it's not worth pushing your luck with the IRS.
Anyone who takes tax advice from "experts" on the internet deserves what they have coming to them.

Every year, I see people advising others to ignore 1099s because they will have to pay more in taxes. :scared: What could go wrong... it's not like the IRS receives a copy of every 1099 filed under your SSN & checks them against your return or anything...

Still no 1099s here... If I don't have them by the 15th, I'm filing my taxes. There's no reason they shouldn't be here by then.

Chase did finally respond to my SM and said they'll be manually giving me the $40 credit for the AT&T offer which never came through for me.

Just popping in real quick to remind people to go have a scan through our WDW tips page on reddit! Wow, that thing is going to be a great resource! I hadn't looked for a bit but it's entirely possible @miztressuz (or her wise Reddit twin) put a together a great part under the bank bonus suggestion area that lays out 3 beginner level, and currently available, bonuses for those looking to dip their feet into bank bonuses :thumbsup2
Yeah - I'll 2nd this. @miztressuz added some AWESOME info there! I will get a category added for touring strategy discussions this evening too!

Question about Sun trust bank bonus. did anyone here receive the 500 bonus? i haven't received a 1099 for it yet. did anyone receive one that did the bonus? it would be a the personal checking account that needed 2500 DD and 10 debit transactions. i did get my chase checking account 1099 last week. is there a difference between DD and debit card versus just DD?
I did that one...got the bonus, didn't get a 1099 yet. I actually didn't get any bank bonus 1099s...only credit card ones.

I have done this a time or two when plans changed during the day. We tried to do this with Via Napoli because it was pouring rain and it is a long walk from the front, but you can't make same day changes for this restaurant. We walked in the pouring rain to our reservation and were still absolutely soaked even with rain coats and umbrellas! I am thinking some of the restaurants can choose to opt out of same day changes???

oooh, interesting, I've never come across that before. I just moved a reservation to beaches and cream same day, a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's so booked up that it took a while to find a new date to rebook. I think I rebooked it 6 mos out. :scared1: I just canceled the 6 month out booking a few days ago.

I haven't gotten a 1099...did it come in your mail or was it in the docs online? I checked the online docs and no tax documents are there.

2) Finding Discounted Disney Resorts on 3rd Party Sites
A requested category as this can be another way to save on Disney resorts:

Thanks to @disneymagicgirl for some helpful comments that sparked interest in this category :)

As @gottalovepluto said - this is really a pretty cool resource now. I think it could be helpful to newbies especially!

Thanks it does help. I had seen all the tax stuff. But I have a rental property so I already pay taxes based on that. . I used to read the thread but I never was willing to take that leap. I got a Disney visa but that was like the babiest step ever.

Thank everyone for all their help. I appreciate it so much. I pay for our vacations through my different efforts. So this will help big time.
I have a rental property and use that for my business. I have been approved for biz cards from Chase, Citi and Amex.

Thanks for adding these...I’m especially interested in seeing others touring strategies....since ours have changed quite a lot over 30 years due to the ages of our kids, Disney’s introduction of same day fastpasses and now being able to book 60 days in advance.....

I can only speak for myself, but yes. Different banks (issuers) have different quirks so it's important to know that and try to not take it personally. When I was busy accruing personal cards I applied for the Club Carlson Radisson Rewards card from US Bank. I didn't know they were sometimes picky about issuing cards and I was declined. I was sooo sad but realized that not every bank loves you the same. I just decided to focus more on other hotel brands/branded cards (with Amex who liked me at the time) and moved on.

One of the rules of thumb for a successful approval of US Bank issued cards like the Club Carlson card is first placing a freeze on credit reporting from Sagestream (used to be IDA) and ARS (Advanced Resolution Systems). DH and I did this and we did it for my mom too and all three of us have the card. It involves sending a letter to each one with your information and requesting a freeze on the reporting.

Personally, I think it worth the hassle because this is one of my favorite AF cards that sits in a drawer. I absolutely love that we get 40,000 points each year and can let them pile up until we have need of them. I've used for for free stays in London, Dublin and Edinburgh over the years.

We currently have 2 nights this summer in Edinbrugh at the Radisson Collection Royal Mile in a premium room for 140,000 points. The room would be $770 for the two nights. After the 2 nights, we are heading to Inverness for one night at a Holiday Inn on points. Then the hotel options in Kirkwall, Lairg, Stornoway, Portreee, Tobermory and Lochgilphead were not bookable at the time I needed to book on any portal. I had to contact each hotel directly to get a room. So, I am happy to have those first three nights between Edingurgh and Inverness on points.

Quoting myself to provide DP:
I was a dummy and put my DH's social in the EIN spot instead of mine. :headache: I had provided my social on the personal info. Needless to say, the info didn't match. So she put it back through with the correct info and I am all set. Card is on the way with a $20k CL, which seems crazy for my small revenue, but whatever.
I’m not sure how much you put, but I got a 20k limit with a 3k revenue so they seem pretty generous. I’m always astounded by CL because I would never charge that much. But people do. A friend found our during his divorce that his now ex had charged over 38k and was making the only min payment :sad2:

I didn't really give any guidance on what or how to share so it will be interesting to see what everybody chooses to share there :)

i think ima be quitting churning in 2021...

You're not the only one... this has been a brutal 12-18 months or so.

On the positive, I passed ROFR on my second DVC contract. pixiedust: Now I need to save up another batch of money for more points. It's a slow save since that goes to the bottom of the priority after retirement and everything else. #FirstWorldProblems
