I would still check in every few days. It says now that they'll email you when a status changes but it seems hit or miss based on what I've read. (when I did mine you had to check yourself, no email option)
Since it can be tough to get an appointment I wouldn't want to miss the window.

Sounds like a good theory but I'm not sure. For hubby he's been at the same job and address forever, so we only listed one employer and one address. We have done several Caribbean cruises in the last 5 years so I was just joking with him that the Cayman Islands sitting at the top of his visited countries list might be biting him in the behind  But he's squeaky clean and other than our island adventures he's pretty boring on paper. So I'm a little surprised too. I know they're backed up from the shutdown but I wasn't expecting this for him. They both probably just got stuck in the bad queue.

Ours were all approved in a week. We have had about 6 rental addresses the past few years and while he's had the same job, his contract and therefore company has changed at least twice.

I am trying to figure out when P2 CSR Travel Credit will reset. I, er... he, opened the account 05/05/18, the AF was charged 06/01/18. His next statement closes 06/05/19. Does that mean the credit wont reset until his July statement, 07/05/2019?

It's after the statement closes, so you'll see it reset 6/6. It'll say in the UR portal when it'll reset, it should say something like "after your statement closes in June" to confirm.

I just spent $100 on raise to take advantage of the 7% off sale. Of course as I was checking out DD came in to bug me about something. I forgot to enter the promo code and didn’t get the 7% off! Grr! Thankfully I read the post about using topcash for 7% back which I hadn’t know earlier so I’ll get that back at least.
At least I am $87 into the spend on my new Barclay AA arrival card that finally arrived earlier.
FWIW One time when I ordered the promo code I was using didn't work. It was a long time ago and some sort of a glitch. I contacted Raise and they gave me a credit.

FYI Norton has a great app for like $1.99 one time cost and works on safari for iPhone.

So just spent almost 2 hours on the phone with BOA for one issue. After that, I told them I’d be moving my DDs and closing my checking and savings. Leaving the CC just for the 10 year history. Moved funds sitting in BOA into Alliant for now.

Anyone wanna throw me your favorite Bank for checking let me know.

In CC news- got my Hilton card! Already researching the next move and just got these in my wallet lol

The next bank with the highest bonus! You only have to use it for 6 months usually, then if you don't like it, throw it away and get the next bonus! (I only sorta kid there)

My primary checking is a local community bank, it's a free account so I don't have to worry about minimum balances, direct deposits, ATM fees or bill pays. They even gave me a free order of checks when I opened it. I don't think there's too many of the big banks that offer similar accounts with no fees at all, even most of the local credit unions here have fees, but for me I'd look at a no hassle account as a backup. I assume there's something Alliant doesn't do for you and that's why you don't use that as a primary? Knowing what that is should make it easier to narrow down the search for a new one to complement it.

If you don't mind no branches, Ally does checking as well as HYS and are pretty fee free. That could be an option to look into.

Same thing happened to me at first, and on my left foot also, which is the the one that was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I thought it would be immediate relief but it actually hurt worse at first. I was told to break them in gradually at first. Hope everything works out for you!

@WVMomof3 I hope you break them in okay. Foot pain is not fun, that is for sure.

:offtopic: ....for any golf fans...my DH volunteered for the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black....he highly recommends any golf fans doing it if a tournament is in your area...has seen, spoken to lots of golfers...really enjoying the experience
I’m not a golf person so only recognize a few names he has mentioned

Glad to hear it was a good experience. DH signed up for one this summer for the first time. He’s very excited!

@miztressuz I think its just a combo of feeling weird nothaving a BANK account (we now just have credit unions) and keeping all our money in one place hahaha My parents have like five checking accounts is that weird?!

Another noob question, which seems like it should be obvious... but... if I pay with my Sapphire Reserve in the UR portal, that should trigger the travel credit, right?

The AF on my SPG personal card posted, so I called Amex for a retention offer. Got 20k Marriott Points for $2k spend in 3 months. Took it.

I called the usual Amex retention line at 1-800-452-3945. The Amex rep tried to sell me on the addition of the 35k FN cert as a new benefit to the card, that it's worth $300-400, and the AF staying the same. I said I do like some of Marriott’s properties, but I’ve been pretty unhappy with some of the changes that’s happened under the new Bonvoy program. I told him I don't know what value I'd put on the FN cert. That Marriott moved several hotels we usually stay at, or would like to stay at up a category, from 35k to 50k; and that Marriott plans to introduce peak pricing this year while the FN remains capped at 35k, so I may not even be able to use it at a Category 5 property. He said, but there's no peak pricing now so I could use the FN on a room worth $300-400 before then. So I said, I also don't have the FN cert now, and you guys don't deposit that certificate for 2-3 months after my card anniversary; I've already got my travel booked for the rest of the year, so by the time I actually get the certificate and get to use it, I may not even be able to use at a Cat 5 hotel. He tried to suggest that off peak pricing would be 30k, less than the 35k cert, and peak pricing only brings a Cat 5 up to 40k. :sad2: So I was like, if the award rate is 30k, why would I use a certificate worth 35k and lose out on 5k points, when I can just use my points for the 30k? But with a kid in school, we're usually traveling when everyone else is traveling anyway so I'm pretty sure we'll be hit by peak pricing. He's like, but that's only 5k more. And I'm like, that's fine if I can use the 35k cert and chip in another 5k of my points to make up the difference. If that's how it'll work, great; but if not, then it's like I've been saying, I don't know what value that certificate is to me.

Fortunately, the rep didn't mention the lack of spend on the card outside of MSR and spending bonuses. Don't even get me started about the base earn devaluation on the SPG cards.

At this point, the rep was almost rude and said something like, well I'm sorry you don't like the program, so do you wanna keep the card or not? Because I have a retention offer for you. I'm like, that's what I was asking for from the start!

I'm a little sorry I gave the guy a hard time. I was going to keep the card anyway, but I'm not going to pass up the chance to get a little more out of my decision to renew. Retention calls are a bit like negotiation, you have to make them think you'll walk even though you really want to stay and make a deal. I think I might've gone a little too far talking smack about the Bonvoy program. Anyway, I now have a combined $6k in retention offer spend to work on this month. We go through MSRs way too fast, but I've been trying to bide my time by not going for new cards until June. These retention offers help.

I have 3 that just renewed AFs and can't decide whether to keep them all. I only use them for amex offers, which seem to have not been so great as of late. I suppose I could string the 3 nights together for a long weekend somewhere.

@miztressuz I think its just a combo of feeling weird nothaving a BANK account (we now just have credit unions) and keeping all our money in one place hahaha My parents have like five checking accounts is that weird?!

Well I have 8 checking accounts right now, but 4 of them are just for the bonus :p I could see having 5 if each one performed a specific function, like lowered the interest rate on a loan or provides higher interest rate but caps out on max balance. Especially if that's 5 between 2 people, that seems less weird even if it's higher than average. :) Hopefully it's not because they maxed out the FDIC insurance at each bank, most likely that kind of money shouldn't be in a checking account :scared:

Personally I don't like leaving all our money in one place either. I've had at least 2 checking accounts for many years and feels easier to get access to cash when needed that way. I keep a bank account somewhere I can access a branch and then whatever gets me the best value on my money. Mostly that's been online HYS accounts. It had been ING before CapOne bought them and made it CapOne360. We still have a joint checking account there, mostly because it was the one bank we both had accounts with at the time, has free ATM access and pays a pittance of interest. But there are better savings accounts out there now. I also have a CU checking account that I kept after opening it for the bonus, figure it might come in handy one day and it also doesn't cost me anything to keep as long as I have some kind of activity within 12 months (small inactivity fee otherwise). I do have worry that something will happen to one institution and I'll be stuck without access to my money when I need it, so I spread the wealth a bit. After hearing about banks with the service outages lately and people who didn't carry cash (or much cash) and relied on using debit cards only being SOL, just really reinforced my "have a backup" approach.

For our HYS we did Synchrony after CO360 took over, but many on here do Ally. Ally has both checking and savings and are pretty competitive on the saving's rate. If you hold on to a large balance there are some high yield checking accounts with even higher rates that could work too with just a little effort. Each region has different dominant banks so I'd look to see what's most convenient to you and then check out some likely candidates. We can probably vet them for you as I'm sure someone on here has used them at some point and can give you the low down on the quirks

Will chase expedite a CIP if asked?

Yes. I got approved Monday, called in and asked if I could get it sooner than the 10 days the status line said, she immediately said she could expedite it and it'd arrive on Weds - and it did! I believe all the Chase cards can be expedited, it's the cobranded ones that are hit or miss due to the partner verification/linking that happens with those. But someone can correct me if I'm misremembering on the cobrands.

We want to save chase slots for him for the end of the year. My southwest companion pass will be expiring and we would like him to do the double dip to obtain the companion pass for 20/21.

We have some very large expenses coming up as we are paying for a Disney wedding and will have the wedding costs and the travel expenses that come along with that. I cringe at paying for the wedding, and my school tuition, and our daycare (which luckily takes credit cards) and not being working towards some minimum spend. We generally fly southwest, but are not opposed to other possibilities as sometime in 2020 we’ll take a honeymoon, but we will need to build up more PTO first (Although that was part of the plan for the companion pass) As it’s a Disney wedding, credit towards spending at Disney is helpful.

Will chase expedite a CIP if asked?

You can ask by SM. I was approved on Wednesday, sent a secure message asking for expedited shipping, and had it Friday.

I should qualify this by saying it was my second CIP and the account was already showing in my online account when I SM'd. Not sure if you would have to call if you didn't already have the account setup.

Tried to cancel my citi thank you card but they offered my 10,000 thank you points for spending $3000 in six months. I've got quarterly taxes to pay plus dd's swimming and that alone is about $15,000 in six months. And I'm at 4/24 and waiting until 6/1 to go for CIP 2 but after that I'm at a loss. Citi AA personal and Amex platinum are on my radar but I like being under 5/24. One more card dropping off in August then I have to wait a year for another one:(
