I Lost My Job This Morning

Bummer eh? Well, I guess that shoots any plans I had of making the podcast cruise. I saw the writing on the wall about a month ago, but was really hoping for the best. Oh well, 20 years with the same company and that's that! I guess we can officially say that I'm on to the next chapter of my life...whatever that is right!!

Not to mention the fact that now I am totally out of the loop as far as working in an office environment, so even if I did get hired somewhere, I would feel out of place and not quite confident for a while! QUOTE]

I am in the same boat you are in right now, so I can sympathize:hug:
Sending good thoughts and lots of pixie dust your way.:wizard:

My best to all of you pixiedust: It is a scary & difficult time for many, even those with jobs. Everyday I'm reading how many more are cut (today, AT&T 12,000; Viacom 850). You are not alone. Take some time to grieve then get back on that saddle - something better is awaiting you :goodvibes

If cashflow is an issue, perhaps consider taking a temporary, lower paying job. Many retailers are still hiring holiday help. Work in the eves/weekends so you can still spend your days looking for a permanent position.

After a while it might be difficult to have the same application/resume output. Perhaps consider using some time daily to develop/maintain your skills. There are lots of free resources on-line or at gov't placement centers.

Being out of the workforce since Feb isn't unusual in the 'new economy'. You may be pleasantly surprised that you haven't missed much, especially if you can 'practice' at home.

:grouphug:

cheers,
:flower3:

I am sooo sorry to hear that. You know, for the past year and a half people have been talking about just how much the economy sucks, but it seems like it's really starting to affect EVERYONE and not just stockholders. I wish you the best of luck, I'm a firm believer in the fact that everything happens for a reason!

:grouphug:

That really stinks!! Hopefully you will start off the new year with great new job. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you!!!!

I am so sorry. I'm not sure how far south of the Sears Tower you are but if you pm me I can give you a few leads of agencies that work with dislocated workers. Hang in there.

Yuck I'm sorry. But I really think this IS a new chapter in your life. Good luck finding something that makes you happY!

I got laid off permanently two weeks ago, so I share your frustration...times are pretty rough out there.

So sorry to hear about the job! I can only echo what others have said, and if you need distraction or cheering up, stop by here and let us know.

Kim

Pixie Dust your way!pixiedust: pixiedust:
I hope the next chapter of your life is wonderful!

So sorry to hear another one of us is going through this.

Try to keep your chin up. I know it can be hard.

Gosh, I am so sorry you lost your job...and I agree with everyone else that the timing just stinks! I'll keep my fingers (and toes!) crossed for you that something else comes along very soon. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone for all the support. I must say, I'm pretty dazed right now and I keep thinking that I have to get up in the morning or I should be going somewhere, but I guess I'm not. For 20 years I went to work at the same office with nearly the same people and to know that I will no longer ever go there again, it's almost that same feeling you have after you graduate high school... like... ummmm... now what??

I guess I will find out after the first of the year... till then I'm on vacation! I told my DH that I'm not getting off the couch tomorrow. Tomorrow is "I'm going to feel sorry for myself day" but that's it, just one day.

On January 5, 2009, I'll be out pounding the pavement again looking for a job. Next week, I go file for unemployment. Good times!

Know how your feeling...found out 2 weeks ago that we would all be terminanted at some point in the near future and had to wait until yesterday to find out that we were going to get to work until March 31 so I'm on borrowed time right now.

I'm looking at it in the most postive light possible...I was getting burned out from doing the same thing, at the same place for so many years and wife and I have been waiting for the right moment to move to FL well this was it and we have begun our plan to move to the Orlando area sometime this summer after our cruise.

this just hurts, how can any employer pick now to terminate you...wishing you a better and more fulfilling job in the future:wizard: pixiedust:

I know how you feel. I was just laid off on the 17th of November. I have
applied for a ton of jobs but I also signed up with a temp agency. I wish you all the best when you start the new chapter of your life!

Becky

Definitely seems to be going around; lots of people I know have been laid off in the past few weeks. :sad1:

Hope you're on to bigger and better things real soon. Best of luck - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to land something awesome to start the new year! :wizard:
