I am trying new places which I will indicate - would love opinions before my scheduling date which is 2-18-10.

Ohana - did it, love it
Crystal Palace - NEVER did it
Garden Grill - NEVER did it
1900 Park Fare (dinner) - did it, love it
Hollywood and Vine - NEVER did it
Spirit of Aloha - NEVER did it
Akerhus - NEVER did it
Sci Fi - did it, love it (bc of the atmosphere)

Any thoughts?

I am not crazy about the Hollywood and Vine but I want Fantasmic package and didn't love Mama Melrose and don't want to use 2 credits at Brown Derby...

We have been to CP for dinner and it was good but I have a feeling that breakfast would be better. We had great service but it took a long time for all the characters to come around. The server told us that the characters would most likely only be around once so if we say them coming to wait at our table. Another + for them, we had an ADR for 5pm on a MNSSHP night and we arrived at the park at 4pm and decided we wanted to eat then and then get on with the party. We went to CP to check and asked if it was possible to get in early...they checked and said yes. We were seated in under 10 minutes.

Spirit of Aloha we all really loved. That trip, my kids thought it was the hi-light of the entire trip. We had the best service of that trip. The food was good but not knock-your-socks off good. The show was really goofy but it was enjoyable. I would suggest going since you have never been. I would suggest getting a cat 1 table though. We booked late and were on the DDP so our only choice was cat3 and it was OK but the people in front of us pulled their chairs into the isle so they could see better which totally blocked our view. The set up is like a wheel with spokes. The stage is the center hub and the tables fan out in lines like spokes.

We love GG & CP.

CP is a must do on each trip for us. We love the ancho chili rubbed salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and corn spoon bread. The character interaction is also pretty good.

GG has the best character interaction in our view. The way the restaurant is set up it is almost as if you have a private little session with each character and they seem to spend more time with you. Plus it has Mickey. The food is good but can be mixed. We had to send back a plate of overly cooked fish but we received back a plate of perfectly delicious fish.

H&V I would not go back to unless it was the only restaurant available. Nothing was wrong with it persay but nothing was overly good about it either.

There are some pictures and my dining reviews on my blog (link in my signature) for the three above. Just click on restaurant reviews when you get to the main page and find which restaurants you want to see.

Have a great trip! :)

Don't do a Fantasmic pkg. The seating is way to the right of the show. The worst seating in the house.

My family and I love CP. Great food slection and seeing Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and Tiger (my son loves this character place)

We love crystal palace and enjoyed the spirit of Aloha. We enjoy askerhouse breakfast but not lunch or dinner.

Guess I'll weigh in on what I've done......But please, don't take other's opinions too seriously. I hate to hear of people cancelling ADR's b/c they "heard on the boards that it's no good". If you had the instinct to try a restaurant, than go with it. We've had wonderful meals at places people on the boards have said SUCKED and we've had horrible meals at places people on the boards said were FABULOUS. So stick with whatcha got.

Ohana - did it, love it: Have done breakfast; food was ok; character interaction was great; DH did dinner with friends without me this last trip and enjoyed it immensely!

Crystal Palace - Always do it every trip for brekkie; get a pre-park opening ADR, you'll have Main Street to yourself and then be done in time for rope drop; dinner was also super yummy in 2007 with tons of great choices on the buffet; would do it all again in a heartbeat

1900 Park Fare (dinner) - Done it for brekkie once to meet Mary Poppins; it was my first character meal ever and still magical; but my perception is probably a little skewed :-) I would definitely try it for dinner with a DD (if I had one) as an affordable alternative to CRT

Hollywood and Vine - NEVER did it Did it for brekkie; totally mediocre; not rushing back to this one

Sci Fi - did it, love it (bc of the atmosphere) Love it and try to do it every trip; sometimes it loses out to 50's PTC but o well....again, one of the first WDW restaurants we ever ate at and it still holds some of that magic for me; have always done lunch here...

Spirit of Aloha- If you've got very young children, expect them to get antsy or a little bored after awhile. This dinner show is three acts long, and you don't even get to see any of the traditional dancing until after dessert (which is what everyone really came to see. Firedancing!~). Kids can go up onstage and perform though, so there will be a chance for them to get involved. As an adult I found the first two acts pretty slow, but hey...that's just me.

Come hungry and be prepared to EAT! The food is good, and even more fantastic for those with a simpler palette (kids especially). The pineapple was the freshest I've ever eaten, and the coconut bread was to die for. Watch out for the chocolate dessert! It's way rich :rotfl:

Sit close only if you want to be right in the performer's faces. We chose to sit in category 2, which is more towards the back, but we were still able to get an A table, meaning our seats were elevated and there was no one else in front of us to block the view. We'll be sitting in category 2 again when we go back (which we will be doing our next visit!)

IMO, well worth it overall. Just be prepared to sit awhile as it's long and nearly comparable to a lingering church service by the time it's over. The food nearly offsets all other setbacks though. Go at least once, you'll be glad you did ^_^
