I liked the old test track better

Our first trip to Epcot this last week since Test Track was redone. Wow, was I disappointed. My husband and I each rode single rider and skipped the design process...since it didn't affect the actual ride, it didn't really appeal to me anyway.

The new version was just driving back some lights in a black room...at least the old version had a story line to it about testing the vehicle on different terrain and such.

Do most people like the new version better than the old one?

My husband and I rode last week, and went through the silly design process. We both thought the new ride was way too "Tron" for us. Missed the realism of the old ride, and the design process just seemed like a waste of time, as it doesn't actually affect your ride in your car (unlike something like Sum of All Thrills in Innoventions, for example). The new dark part of the ride looks so fake...and old. Like I said, very Tron, and not in a good way.

My wife and I rode the new TT in October...we went in expecting to hate it because we were huge fans of the original version...but came out loving it. I was mesmerized by all the Tron-y visuals...quite beautiful in my opinion...and we had fun designing our car and seeing how it fared against other designs.

While I enjoy the design aspect of the new attraction. I really miss the "texture" of the old ride. The environmental testing rooms for example were always fun to go through. They gave you something to look at, you had sensory experiences with heat, cold, and smell. They also gave you the ability to find new things you may have missed before. The new ride seems so clean and utilitarian that I'm really just waiting to get to the outdoor section.

Yeah this was pretty much my take on it too. Thought I wouldn't like it but actually thought it was kind of cool because of the futuristic feel.

I agree with your summary.

I'm with Bullseye and SoarinSC, I was never too crazy about the original, but I LOVED the update. I too, really liked the fact that we could see how the different designs compared - it got me interested in what was going on in a way the original never did.

This is why I liked the old version better, too.

I liked the old version but did feel a change was needed as the old version had gotten old and tired, this is of course coming from someone who probably rode the old version several hundred times. The new version is fine as they went for a video game, futuristic setting which I kinda like, where I think they failed badly is when the ride was being redesigned they shouldn't be saying that your design is going to be graded or affect the ride in any matter. The whole design phase is fine but just say it's something to entertain you while in line, nothing more.

This. The new TT was THE highlight of DH's trip! I was quite fond of the old version, but I think the concept car theme fits 'Future World' so much better. Plus, watching DH totally light up with excitement over his car design was so adorable. If I could relive only one hour of that trip, it would be that one. He just had to play with all the exit area activities, too. :D

I preferred the old version too, but because the ride experience is essentially the same I will still ride it and enjoy it.

The car design process is kind of silly, but a harmless way to fill the last few minutes before entering the boarding area, and I can see why younger people would like it.

It's nowhere near as much of a comedown for me as JII.

I like the new update, but then I'm a fan of Tron. The design process was pretty fun; I thought it was cool to build a car with certain factors in mind and then see how that car would perform in the testing.

Which is what it is! There's a story there that you missed because you skipped the "silly" car design process. You still test cars as you ride, but it's digital now. The screens show how the car you built would have fared on each test. Rather than you being the test dummy, they're testing how your car would do!

I basically agree...at the very least I def. prefer the fact that you could get through the line and ride relatively quickly with a fastpass or during a slow time. We went this past Sept. and just could not get through the ride in under 35-40 mins.....that was with a fastpass and during a slow time of year. It's just not set up to get through quickly - we have young kids so we don't do single rider. We decided that test track will only be done once a trip for us from now on.

I think we like it about the same. We actually prefer Maelstrom over TT.

Plus: Like the car design section

Minus: The overall indoor part of the ride was better before

Same: The thing I like best about the ride---going fast outside---didn't change.

I like the redesign and the futuristic visuals. I like the test room where the wind is going over your reflection in the mirror. Designing a car is fun, but it often doesn't synch up right witht he ride vehicle. Generally though I think it was an improvement to the original.

I kinda like Tron, so I'm cool with the re-design. As long as they don't change the last 30 seconds of the ride I'll like it. And if they want to build on to the last part of the ride that would be great(totally not practical, but how cool would that be?):earsboy:
