I know that not to be true as my mom always threatened to put "striped" socks on us. We usually deserved it though. Well I was an angel while my 3 sisters were terrors.
My dad "fashioned" a P.I.T.A. (pronounced PIT-ah, definition: Pain In The Azz)
It was actually a cat-o-nine tails of sorts. He used about a 1 inch wooden dowel, say...10" long for a handle, took about a foot of leather from an old belt & stapled it on to the dowel, then cut the leather into fine strips & tied knots in the end.
I really don't recall dad ever using it... but mom??? Wow!! That woman could move when provoked!!!
Al & our other brother got the "Pita" more than I did, cause I was too little.
Hows come something like that wasn't considered child abuse in the 1950's??
My 2nd grade teacher kept a wooden paddle in the corner as a "reminder". She never had to it but that's because we were too young to realize that she COULDN'T.
I need to agree with the original comment made about this particular board. I was posting at the DVC board for a while since we are members but people were very snobbish. Absolutely love the the camping forum though. You guys are a blast!
if parents had to sit in a classroom and be subjected to what we hear on a daily basis, i guarantee that most of them would do something about it...no one should have to be treated like that...but...we love the kids, that is why we put up with it
I love this board as well. Where else can we start a thread with a compliment, have a food fight, blame each other, clean it up and now go to a discussion on corpal punishment in schools. Gotta love it. It's just like sitting around a campfire.

Actually a sawed off wooden golf club handle. I hated that thing! He could never find it because we used to hide it. He used to say PITA was a Polish word and we believed him.
You hit the nail on the head with that comment! I can't tell you how many kids (under 15) that have used some pretty bad language when talking to me and while in uniform yet! I am almost to the point where it doesn't surprise me anymore but.... I always make sure to tell them that they are lucky they weren't my kids, with attitudes and mouths like they have.
I remember the school principal used to have a paddle in his office...I went there 1 time....wasn't no way I was goin back for that...now the parents would cry child abuse! It's only abuse if it's not being used appropriately!!
