I just looked at the calendar to get an idea when we will vacation next year. DD5 will be in Kindergarten and DH is a teacher so we vacation around the school year. My options look so much better. TWO weeks for Xmas break?! a whole week for Thankgiving break, we only get one for Xmas and maybe an extra day or two depending on when Xmas falls and only 3 days for Thanksgiving. WInter break in Feb is the same. April break is the 1st week in April and the last day is June 1st!! I love it. Now to decide when we go!

that is not even mentioning the fact that every 4 weeks or so they have a friday off for teacher's meetings. Seems like every time I turn around dd is out of school for something or other.

Hi, from down south. I have to say I love the calendar also. Are you moving soon? We also only vacation around the school holidays. It's nice to have such variety.

I'm curious - how early in August do they start? The schedule just seems weird to me, since we usually go until about June 20th and have no "February break". (We have 3 days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and a one week Spring break)

Well we're not down south at all and that seems similar to our schedule here in Indy. 2 weeks at Christmas. 3 days plus the weekend at Thanksgiving. A 4 day weekend in October. Spring break the first week of April. School starts around August 14th and is out by Memorial day.

My dd started Aug. 15 this year and graduates from kindergarten on the 22nd of this month. Her last day of school is May 19. Next year they start on Aug. 13 and get out May 25.

We live in a suburb of Charlotte, NC, and we don't have quite the same schedule. We start the last week of August and go until the first week of June. We have no October or February break. Thanksgiving vacation is Wed, Thu, and Fri. We get a week plus 1 or 2 days for Christmas- the same for Spring Break (usually the week before or the week after Easter plus a day). We do average 1 Teacher workday (usually on Friday or Monday) a month.

We have a similar calendar. We have a lot of hurricane make up days built into the calendar. If we don't use them, we get off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so we have a 5 day weekend. This coming school year, there are more days built in than in past years because we seem to have to take blocks off time off when storms come through. We go back August 8th and get out around the 25th of May. I don't really care for this type of calendar in some ways because we go back during peak hurricane season. Many of our school buses aren't air conditioned and August is our hottest month! We have so many days off for inservice days and such that we go later than a lot of schools that start early like we do. It has its perks and disadvantages.

We love the school calendar here too-much, much more sense than Ohio. We start earlier-get a week long fall break in Oct-5 days (Wed-Sun) off for Thanksgiving. 2 full weeks at Christmas, and out before Memorial Day. I see no difference in getting out before Memorial Day or starting school after Labor Day.

Our old school district gave the Monday after Thanksgiving off instead of the day before-makes no sense at all--Wednesday is a much busier travel day.

I use to love our year here in NC. We started school on August 8 & got out of school mid May. That left the rest of May & begining of June for us to take a vacation before the crowds started. :) Now the legislatures have messed things up because the travel business complained about losing money in August when the kids went back to school. This past year they started on 8/25 & will get out 6/8. I can't wait to hear them whining about how low profits are for May & June compared to last year. ROFL!!!

I guess I prefer our schedule here, start the Tuesday after Labor Day, get out end of May, don't have extra time off for teacher in service days, they do a late start one day/month for that--great time for dentist appointments!--we have a week or so off for Christmas, no spring break.

Actually I would prefer year round school but that is a different topic all together.

Where I live (RI), we start the Tuesday after Labor day but usually because of snow days, we get the end of June. This year DH's last day is June 30th. 3 days off for Thanksgiving, 1 week off Xmas, 3rd week of Feb., 3rd week of April.

So when we move, we start August 1st. School ends June 3rd.
