I was just sitting here thinking about how they would never let the thrill ride idea go unless they had something to replace it with. Then it hit me. Take down all the metal panels that make up the outer skin of Spaceship Earth, replace them with glass panels and what do you have? Thats right, A GIANT SNOW GLOBE!
They could rip out the existing sets, leave the current ride system in place, put in a snow machine and Presto, Snow Globe The Ride (Brought to you by Microsoft, the company that has been snowing you for 20 years). They could then replace the global neighborhood with a gift shop straight out of Ei$ner's dreams (and our nightmares). I can just hear the perky voice as the ride vehicle approaches the unloading station:
"Wow, that was fun!, Now that you've riden the ride, why not take a little bit of the snow globe magic home with you. Welcome to Microsoft's Snowglobal Neighborhood. Here you can buy the snow globe of your dreams. You'll have great fun for a few months gazing into your slowglobe, until its time to return it for an upgrade. You can also purchase an upgrade for that old copy of Windows 98 you are still running. After all, Whats more magic than upgrading your OS? And hey kids!, be sure to try out the interactive "Blizzard of Viruses" booths. You'll have loads of fun as you try to guess how many patches Microsoft has released while you were riding Snow Globe the Ride. Yes, minutes of fun await you in Microsofts Snowglobal Neighborhood. See ya there!"
Suddenly Time Riders doesn't look all that bad.
