My kids attend a school for performing arts. It has dance, voice acting and modeling. My boys take acting.
The winter show is just voice, acting and solo dancers. The actors have a scene they do with another actor, and a monologue. This year, the owner's DD is in the younger acting group. She also dances, in the Combo lll class. She is 5yo, I believe.
Most of the 5 and 6 yo's got a tiny little monologue. 2 or 3 lines, and they were off the stage. If you blinked, you missed it. Her DD got a monologue that had her on stage for 2 minutes. She also had a dance solo. ALL of the dance soloist were from the older competition teams. No dancer from any of the younger combo classes has ever had a solo in the winter show.
All of this is just OK, if she wants to showcase her DD, well, it his her studio. What irked me and many parents, was the finale. She had all the kids come out on stage from both sides of the stage,, 3 lines. ALL of the high school kids were in the front, and the little kids were in the back row. Does that make sense? We could not see our kids!!! Each group came out to the front line and bowed, but then went back. So the entire 5 minute finale, we with little kids saw our child for 2 seconds.
EXCEPT...... the owners DD was front and center the entire Finale. She lead the 1st line out, and stayed in the middle of the front line for the entire finale. Even when she lined up with her group and bowed, the tiny kids all went back to the back row, and she took her spot front and center.
This really burned a lot of parents. It was bad enough that our kids were put in the back, but for the owner to put OUR kids in the back, but her DD up front, does that seem right?
Some mothers even said it was something that might make them look to go somewhere else.
We always hear how the coaches kid always makes the ALL Star team, but we pay good money to send our kids to this school. Many of the kids are EXTREMELY talented. I would hate to think, that her DD is going to be handed starring roles just because of who she is.
