I know I wanted some time at home to just rest, but...

...this is not what I had in mind. :(

I never posted the results of my dr visit yesterday -- he said probably just fine, but he wants to do a colonoscopy just in case.   I'm scheduled for Wed of next week.

That means I'm going to be stuck at home all day Tuesday and sure won't be resting, as well as all day Wednesday, most of which will probably be spent sleeping, and maybe some or all day Thursday, too. All to almost definitely find I'm fine and just a little irritated.

To say I'm nervous and upset about this is an understatement. :(

I am sorry. Are you going to the Dis meet Sunday?

{{{HUGS}}}, Tammi. You will be fine. Get those kitties to cuddle up next to you. :D

Tamie, don't be nervous. This is a very easy procedure, I know from personal experience. The worst part is the prep, you have to drink probably PhosphoFleet and eat a clear liquid diet the day before. The only other slightly uncomfortable part is when they start the IV, if needles bother you I suppose you could be nervous about that.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie, it's not going to be as bad as you think.

It's actually the prep that has me more upset than the procedure. I have a hard time drinking even a 20 oz bottle of water in a 2 hour period on average at work. They want me to drink HOW MUCH of this stuff every 15 minutes??? And I'm sure it's going to make me sick, not just in the intended manner. :(

Rajah,

I take care of colonoscopy patients at work. A lot of folks say that chilling the prep makes it easier to drink.

The prep is the worst part. Once that's done with, the rest is a lot easier.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

I have had several of these, and I can't stand the crud they make you drink. I asked my doctor to prescribe Visicol. They are tablets that you take the night before and the morning of your procedure. The only drawback is that you have to take 42 tablets, and the tablets are HUGE!!. But it sure beats drinking that nasty stuff. If you are able to swallow pills, I HIGHLY recommend it.

42 huge pills!!!?!?!?!    I can't even swallow one small vitamin!

EEEeeekkk! That'll be an eye-opening experience, for sure!
I hope it all goes well and that you'll be there Sunday! No matter what anyone says, I don't think it's so neat to get a nice "how's your father" at anytime! Do you at least get a copy of the video?;) :p ;) :p

{{{HUGS}}} to you Tammi... I hope it all goes well for you!

I don't know anything about the test, but I'll definitely be hoping for the best for you that day. (((Hugs)))

I have had two colonoscopys. One 7 yrs ago and the other a few months ago. My 16 yr old daughter also had to have one this year. It really isn't all that bad and whatever they gave me to drink this yr compared to 7 yrs ago was so much better, didnt bother me at all. You'll be a bit tipsy after the procedure, I only sleep for about two hrs afterwards and then I'm back to normal.
Good Luck!!

I'd rather be out entirely, or to the point that I don't remember it. I don't think it'll be as bad as the endoscopy I had a while back, but I remember too much of that and that's part of what's making me so nervous. I don't wanna remember it :p And if they give me enough sedative to put me out enough I don't remember it, I'll be out all day and getting lots of sleep when I get home probably.

Know what I did on my last prep for the colonscopy? I drank the phosofleet straight without mixing it. nasty, nasty, nasty. But man did it clear me out!
The IV part isn't so bad, they give you some good whappy drugs to put you out there.
You have reminded me that I need to make my appt with the gastro......

 <font color=navy> Rajah LTNS!

I didn't know you were going through this - hugs, Rajah. Keep us posted.

I just had a colonoscopy a month ago and I only had to drink the small bottle of Phospho-soda. It was about a 3-4oz small bottle of clear liquid that I refridgerated AND mixed with juice. It still tasted like battery acid, but it wasn't all that bad, really. Someone here recommended mixing it with a carbonated beverage, like Sprite or 7-Up. I think that would've been better than what I did, mixing it with juice.

The test itself was a breeze. I felt rather dehydrated by the time I got to the hospital that morning, so when they put the IV in my hand, I was actually thankful! LOL

If you can't tolerate large pills or tolerate drinking a large volume, then ask your doctor about drinking the smaller bottle of "Fleet Phospho-soda". You can get it at any pharmacy, they even sell it at my local grocery store.

Please let us know how it all goes!! Good luck to you, Rajah.
