But do we get WiFi in our rooms. We're here now
and can only plug in in the bedroom unless we missed
something. Anyone?

If you want WiFi in the room you need to plug in your own router. The rooms only have wired internet access.

High Speed internet is only wired in the rooms. Vero Beach and Hilton Head are the only DVC resorts that have wireless internet in the rooms.

Next trip add a cheap $50 router to your packing list. We routinely take along one and setup a wireless network four our various computers.

Kitani Village also has wifi. I was able to get reception to their hotspot even in my room in Jambo House, though only one day during our trip.

You were able to get their wifi that is available in the main lobby or someone's router that they left unsecured. It is not a feature that is meant to be available in the rooms there either.

Really, we prefer the ability to set up our own router in the room. Our computers already recognize the router and now that we have our "DVC Router", we plug it in and are up and running within a minute. Public wifi is usually not very good anyhow depending on how many people are connected to it.

Perhaps the main lobby.... the node name included "Kitani Village" so it was almost surely not someone's router.

I wonder what they did when they processed my login. I entered a Jambo House KTTK number, of course -- or are Jambo House and Kitani Village the same in that regard?

I have to do that next time.

I'm not doubting you or that you were able to access the hotel wifi at all. However, this seems like a good opportunity to warn people about connecting to networks if they are not sure of the source, and for those using Windows, pay attention to the type of network. (not sure how it works in Mac OS as I don't pay attention to my husband's laptop) When I boot up my laptop in public places like airports I am always amazed at the number of other computers broadcasting open connections with names like "Free Wifi" or "Public Wifi." My favorites are the ones that are trying to spoof a location's network but spell the location wrong, like "Starbuks."

(Although Bicker, I guess it's ironic that you said the network you connected to was "Kitani" - I assume that was a typo on your part. ;))

Anyhow - just be mindful of the networks you connect to! :)

Yes typo on my part.

So you think perhaps what I connected to could have been someone with a router just looking to intercept (?) my Internet traffic?

No, as I said, I wasn't doubting that you were able to connect to the lobby wifi.

Okay... whew! Spooky idea though.

We have a router in our Owner's Locker, and we are very glad we have it. We hook it up to the living room HSI connection, and then both DH and I can use our laptops. It doesn't take up much space in the OL either!
