I knew if I hung out here enough I'd start 2d guessing myself!

We are booked at the Poly, GV on AAA rate. Thinking of changing, wondering if its really worth the $$. I see at WDW site that AKL has SV rooms for less...for the trip, if AAA available, would be $300 less than Poly. I'm in need of input, the good, the bad and the ugly! Particularly concerned about how far is it really to the parks from AKL, is the DVC construction anywhere near the SV rooms, and do you really see animals?

I'm strapping in for the flood, as I know that there are some strong opinions, but I can take them all! Let 'er rip!!

Have not stayed at AKL, but it is on my wish list as it sounds wonderful. since, my your signiture, I see you have been to Poly already, why not pocket the difference and try something new?

If you are concerned about the distance to MK, you may also want to consider the WL, costs are lower than Poly, about the same as AKL.

I love both resorts and think you would be happy at either one. Yes, you really do see animals from your savannah view room, but some savannah views are (much) better than others and if you are going for the view you could end up disappointed. If you're focusing on the MK, I would go with the Poly b/c the proximity is so great.
If you're going to have a lot of people in the room, I would go with the Poly b/c the rooms are more spacious.
If you love AK, then I would go with AKL. It's GORGEOUS and has absolutely wonderful theming. Great restaurants too. Boma is so delicious and there are so many yummy things to try. Jiko has always been amazing in my experience.
I have stayed at AKL 10+ times and once on the bus it takes 16-18 min. to get dropped off at MK. Epcot is about 10 min. AK is about 3 minutes! I think MGM is about 8 min. Of course, you might wait 15 min. for a bus to pull up. You never know~
Poly, as you know, has very lush landscaping, has views all around of the MK plus the Contemporary and GF. Walking paths to GF, TTC, GF Spa, etc. AKL is also beautifully landscaped and has a great pool and is its own little world Again I love both resorts so I don't think you can go wrong. For a weeklong stay the cost difference you quoted is about $40/day.

I believe WL is even cheaper than AKL and you can take a boat to MK! And if you want a monorail trip wellllll you could just take the boat to MK and hop on the Monorail there...I dunno I think stating opinions on resorts is a tricky business everyone will have different outlooks on what is good bad and ugly... for example Ive read someone say that towel animals are a waste of time but loads of people love them etc... its all a matter of opinion! But as far as a plus I know of the Poly.. boat between Poly and GF, Wishes on the beach,Ohana's during wishes, Monorail Access, Capt COoks as far as Deluxe cafeteria places go its one of the better ones with the computerized system.. there are a few extra programs like making lei's and lady bug festival i think its called that occurs and such... and you are so close to CR, and GF andMK it can make it worth it.....but dont be afraidto look into WL and CR they can be just as great (Im a huge WL fan myself!)

I second the suggestion about going to the WL instead. It's a gorgeous resort, my absolute favorite on property. And it's much closer than AKL to everything. AKL is just not my cup of tea. And Poly looks very much, but I can never justify how much they charge to stay there.
