I just got the packet in the mail....my son needs to choose his "majors" for high school next year!!!!! :earseek: Hello!!!! Where did the time go!!!!!????? Who tells our kids they can grow up so quickly?!! :faint:

On the plus side, they do have many interesting courses he can choose from! Lots of things to do with computers. Sure isn't the way it was when I was a kid! Heck, I don't even remember needing to think about a major til 11th grade! :scared1:

Any suggestions for a boy who is very good with a computer, loves to draw (and is really good at it) and hates math?? :headache: Need to get him on the right path to be a Disney animator when he grows up! :jumping1:

Did they send you the list of requirements for graduation as well? Before I did anything I would get that. Then for his electives I would help him look at what he plans for his future and help guide him to classes that would help with that.

According to this newsletter, "English, Science, Math, Social Studies and Phys. Ed are courses required for graduation". These are automatically given to the kids. He needs to "be certain to number your first five selections. We will attempt to honor your 1st and 2nd choices". It sounds like he needs to pick 5 and hope for the best! My neighbors daughter picked 5...listed them in order....and the school gave her something NOT EVEN ON her list!! :earseek: Now if I were her mother, I would of squalked something big-time, her mom didn't want to make waves and didn't say anything. Needless to say, that's not me!! :hyper:

When did high schools start having majors?

Is he planning on college? If so, you should get the college requirements and start with those. Many colleges require additional courses beyond the 'graduation' requirement (2 years foreign language for instance). We did this with my daughter and it made it much easier. Helps to plan the whole 4 years of 'required' courses and fill in the rest.
It goes by sooooo quickly.
Best of luck to both of you :)
