I got a strange email which I thought was bogus but it was not. It had an internet link where I took a 30 minute survey on what features of a new DVC resort would be most important. (you get $20 for your time or can give it to the Red Cross)

They ask about different mixes of features from really bare bones resorts without themed pools or waterslides, no housekeeping, no washer and dryer, queen vs king sized beds, all the way up to very high levels of luxury including personalized vacation planners, VIP tours, welcome baskets, stereo systems, in room gyms, separate formal dining rooms, spas and salons, concierge service with free meals and park tickets, etc...to things in between, types of stores, restaurants available ,etc. Various scenarios were posed with differing costs, dues, and points per night schedules to see what would be my favorite and what would entice me to buy more...Basic, deluxe, or Luxury levels of offerings.

It is interesting that they are paying to get this sort of info but it is hard to see how it could apply to anything in the near future since SSR must already have plans for what it is going to be.

Just thought I would share what I thought was pretty interesting.

Wow, that is interesting. It gives me something to ponder. Like if I would buy points for something bare bones, etc.
Thanks for posting!

I also received this survey. There were about 15 different scenarios, as described above, regarding accomodations and levels of amenities. The choices were "basic". something in-between, upscale and luxury, with different prices per point. i thought it was pretty interesting.

Was this something you recieved from MS at DVC, or an independant company claiming to be working on behalf of Disney? It wouldn't be the first time a "questionaire" was sent out claiming to be from Disney then it's followed up with an offer for a different companies timeshare saying that it fits your answers better than DVC does. I'd be quite suprised if Disney was shelling out $20 for people to answer something like this when it's in the owner's interests to let the company know what they would like. If you think you'll only get a 10% take up on the form ( I think you'd get higher) you just increase the poll by 10X and you have a Zero cost option. If you need say 1,000 people to get a reasonable number why spend $20,000 when you just send out 10,000 emails (basically for nothing) and get an online form completed( basically for nothing).

I'm always very wary when someone offers me money for something I'm likely to do for free.

I also just took this survey. I can tell you that we never had to think this hard about actually joining dvc. I think they may be expecting too much from their participants.

I have taken surveys on Disney (not DVC yet) from an independent company. Though they did call me a few weeks before hand and ask me if I wanted to participate and if I did I would get $10 or could choose to donate that money to Give Kids the World.

So I think Disney is legitimately hiring outside research firms to do this research. It could be a for real survey from them.

hi: i did the survey as well. i started laughing because the comments made by the other posters were basically the same as the comments i added at the end of the survey! also, aren't those little mickey heads trademarked?

I agree with Vernon, sound bogus or at least non-Disney to me too. Disney can throw a bone out to all us Disneyholics and get 10 times more opinions on any subject that it can imagine. The fact that the money received can be chosen to go to charities such as Red Cross or various children's charities just tries to legitimize their efforts. Call me a cynic, but I wouldn't doubt if the survey is from a third party thinking of getting into the time share market. Who knows though! AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhh Spring has arrived1

Well to vernon and sratay- I agree it all seemed bogus and i would not have done it had I not checked with Disney first. It is posted on the DVC members' website that they hired this firm to do the surveying. Also once you take the survey it is obviously for Disney because it asks only about Disney stuff AND has a DVC offer prospectus as part of the material you read for the survey. It is partly DVC sales pitch just as you get from Disney. So I understand your healthy skepticism, as I said in my original post- but this is 100% legit.

Agree. It is legit. We filled out the survey last week We received a phone call from the marketing company in Feb asking if we were interested in participating.

Wondered why we never received an E-mail after that. Guess it just took awhile to develop. If you were serious about answering, it couldn't be done quickly. It did require the use of more than a few brain cells.
Here is a link to the research company:
