IF I DON'T TELL SOMEONE I'M GOING TO EXPLODE!!!

:):):)

My boyfriend isn't what one would describe as 'well-traveled'. He's been on exactly ONE vacation. Ever in his life.

With me. to Disney, last year for my birthday.

He grew up very poor. No road-trips, camping trips, plane rides, nadda. He's NEVER SEEN THE OCEAN.

and so in that vein....

I've just booked 5 nights for his birthday in August at Captain's Quarters in Myrtle Beach. Ocean View Room!!

I told him what days to take off and that we were going away, but I haven't told him (or anyone else, for that matter) where.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!! This is my first non-disney trip since 2007! 5 days/6 nights of fun in the sun bliss. Hopefully. I know it's Hurricane Season. :rolleyes1

Have fun!!!!!! I visited Myrtle Beach once. Hot. Fun. Pretty beach!

Put sunscreen on the tops of your feet if you wear open shoes. Trust me. Especially if you go for any long beach walks. Carry the sunscreen with you and reapply liberally. :headache:

Congrats. You live in NY & he's never seen the ocean though? WOW.

Looks like the OP lives in the Albany area. My mom grew up in the vicinity, and if her parents hadn't routinely gone into NYC and taken other vacations, she wouldn't have been to the ocean, either. NY is a big state!

That'a an awesome suprise, and it seems your boy is lucky to have you!

My boyfriend and I are actually going to Myrtle for the first time this Sunday! Thought it was funny that you posted this! I'll come back and let you know how cool it is! I'm going with my brothers and sisters families and the only thing we have planned is Medieval Times!

That is a really nice surprise.

Don't worry about it being hurricane season. Honestly half the year is "season." The chances are very slim, and if one were to come you will have warning to evacuate.

Have a great time.

awww, what you are doing is from the heart and very sweet. He's a lucky guy! Something you'll both always remember. :thumbsup2

You sound like a very loving GF who really cares about her BF! Myrtle Beach will be a blast! I've planned several surprise trips for my DH and myself that he's loved! Once was a cruise ~ he didn't know till be got to the port ! The anticipation was truly a lot of fun for him! :goodvibes

You will love MB!!! It is too much fun! There is so much to do there. We love to go to the Boardwalk, Dixie Stampede, Myrtle Waves, and Ripley's Aquarium.

I hope you both have a wonderful time!

That sounds like a lot of fun!!! I'm sending some good weather vibes your way, too. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes I hope you guys have a great trip!

We live just outside of Albany. I was fourtuate that my family had enough money growing up to take trips, so I've been a few places, including Myrtle Beach and Cape Cod.

I was going to plan a trip to the Cape, but i figured his first experience with the ocean should be warm :rotfl:

Thanks for the good wishes everyone!

Oh goody! :cool1: Vacation! Just wanted to say I married a boy like that. His father owned a restaurant and they never took a vacation. DH worked in the restaurant every day but Sunday from the time he was 13. When we got serious I suggested we take a vacation together. He had no idea what that exactly meant. So we went to Atlanta, which always has something going on.

A year later I suggested that we go up to Virginia to meet my extended family, since we were talking marriage. We drove from west Alabama, all day, and about the time we passed Atlanta he turned to me and said, "Where is Virginia, anyway?" Seriously? He had a lot to learn.

I grew up going camping for vacations. My parents were also very poor and camping was cheap. We made the most of it. DH & I have been married 29 years and I had to literally teach him how to relax on a vacation. For a long time he needed to be doing something constantly! Very high strung. I taught him how to camp--thought we were going to come to blows over that. He stayed after the kids to "Just do something! don't sit there!" I let him know in no uncertain terms that he could go sit on a tack--the kids and I would be over yonder poking the campfire with a stick.

You'd never believe it, but DH has turned into quite the traveler. We bought a travel trailer about 3 years ago and have been over 7,000 miles with it, including a 2-month long cross country trip with the kids. We had such a good time that we're planning to do it again, soon as our DD16 goes to college(1year and counting...) In fact, our plan is to sell the house, upgrade the RV and spend significant portions of our time on the road. Wish me luck!:hippie:
