I just joined the car #4 crowd

Anyway, back in the early 80s we all used to really enjoy wet and wild.

It really is a shame, honestly, that the one thing that you were looking forward to the most is the thing that they are going to be rehabbing while you are there. I've been to disneyland and disney world when they were rehabbing things, too, and it can be a bummer, but then it is good next time when it is fixed up. There are so many people going through there that things need to be down from time to time. I don't think that you can depend on looking at the time of year that something was done in the past as a guide to go by for every year. That might work sometimes but I wouldn't rely on it. They have to change it up sometimes or people who were only able to go the same time each year would never get to do some things. Also, something might have a bigger priority on a given year and shake the schedule up and cause things to be readjusted. Goodness, it seems like this is July and you know about this now, and that is 7 months from now. That seems like a lot of notice to me actually.

I am not sure if this will offer you any solace, but, as I read on here, "WDW was not built just for your solitary benefit. There are 15,999,999 other people that WDW must please every year to stay in business," and then "What I think is incorrect is the sentiment that "I like it; therefore it's good for Disney". You're not Disney's only customer."

Again, sorry that this was something that disappointed you, but these rehabs have to be done sometime I'm sure you realize. I am sure that there will be plenty of alternative activities during the month of Feburary, and, clearly, there is another water park that will be open during that time. January and Febuary are probably the slowest times of year, as people who are not from Alaska probably think it is too cold to get wet, and so this is the best time of year to do the rehab. From the business standpoint, I'm sure that one water park is sufficient to meet the level of demand for water parks at that time of year.

FYI, The reason I hear that Disney is flip flopping the waterpark rehab schedule this year is that they are planning on adding some additional slides and whatnot to Typoon Lagoon. The flip flop would give them some additional time for the addition to Typhoon Lagoon.

Harryo hit it head on!

From ScreamScape:
Typhoon Lagoon Expansion - (7/7/03) The latest project rumors incidate that the Rapids River section at the bottom, may indeed be another NBGS attraction, a Torrent River, which is essentially a merger of a Wave Pool and a Lazy River. We’ve also heard a rumor claiming that Blizzard Beach may switch places with Typhoon Lagoon and go down for a winter rehab first allow Typhoon to go down second allowing for extra time work on the project. We’ve also heard that the project may be placed just outside the normal park ring next to Shark Reef.
Did it ever occur to anyone, that, maybe Disney (every once in a while) has a legitamite and good reason for doing the things they do?

AWM expressed dissappointment with TL and if the above rumor is true, Disney has recognized that (well, not his personal dissappointment, but a general feeling that TL lacks in areas) and is attempting to fix it. I don't see anything wrong with a flip-flop in water park rehab schedules IF it is for legitamite reasons...

Baron,

When did you begin to feel that the moderate resorts were below standard?
Uh oh - here we go agaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiin........................;). (psst - his answer would be 'from before they were built'.)
And I don’t need any D(istinguished) K(ontributors) telling me (with the right amount of smilies) that I’m an idiot for not checking, blah, blah, blah!!
Then maybe none will .

ArcticWildMan - I'm sorry this change in the "mormal" BB rehab schedule is enough to make you decide to forgo in the future all the wonderful things that Disney has to offer. Then again, like Baron, maybe you don't think that all those other things are all that wonderful any longer. Unfortunately, we have all had disappointments with rehabs, etc. (ours with a Pooh rehab for 2 months that included a busy holiday period, C Ann with the Osborne lights, you with BB - and many others with things that might be important to them.) You can choose to let it affect your vacation, or you can make the best of it. Either way, I hope you still have a good trip. I hope I don't sound terse either, as some of the other responses to your straw were a little severe.

As for rehab schedules, they can be hard to plan on, even if it has been the same for years. I don't equate a rehab change to the Story that Baron told regarding hours on that fateful August trip. As other have pointed out, there very well may be a good reason for the change in the BB rehab schedule. I have seen the TL rumors as well - and the rumored additions could be great. I actually hope the change in schedule means that TL will be down, and for an extened time, during the time that BB was usually closed. It may not be the case, but if Disney made this change so that they could expand their offerings and bring us some new and exciting water park stuff I think it is not only forgiveable, but a great thing. I'm just sorry it has had a negative impact on your vacation.

For those that might say there is no proof this change in schedule is the result of guest related or bigger things, tell me how you would relate the change back to the almighty $$$$$$ that you surely think Ei$ner personally dictated this change for.

Thanks for all the kind words (and not so kind by others ;) )

LandBaron pretty much nailed it on the head. This isn't just Big Thunder Mountain or Tower of Terror being shut down for maintenance/rehab, it's an entire park. His analogy of shutting down the Magic Kingdom while leaving AK open is exactly how I feel.

Blizzard Beach is a unique attraction that my entire family loves!! Last trip when it was closed, all we could talk about was how we wished it was open instead of TL. Back in 2000 and 2001 when we visited, we spent 2 days the first time and 3 days the second time at BB. When you consider we only stayed for 7 days and 10 days, that's a substantial portion of our trip.

Oh well. We'll just go to Wet n Wild instead. I'm sure we will have a great time there and I'll have a smile on my face knowing that my admission price isn't going to Disney. Lord only knows they fleece me for enough money on my visits. As a matter of fact, I'm going to make every effort to minimize my spending while I'm at Disney. I will eat off property when practical and bring my own food and drink to the parks when it's not.

I'm sure my form of protest will not have the least impact on WDW, but at least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing I'm doing SOMETHING to show my displeasure in the way WDW is being run.

Mr. Wild Man, here's hoping that something breaks in your direction! WDW does have that ability, so I hope it happens to you.

Anyway, you mentioned IOA and I have to say, given your feelings of disenchantment with Disney this would probably be a very good idea. You'll be happy not patronizing Disney, you'll be visiting a park (or two) that you've never been to before and you know going in that the Parks are of first class quality. This could be a vacation maker for you, IMO...

Anyone ever seen Captain Crook and Captain Jack at the same time???

Hmmmmmmm, and just WHAT are you implying??? :teeth:

Whatever happened to YOHO by the way, did he become someone else?

:) (Sorry to go OT)

I just think Captian Crook & Captain Jack have a lot in common...Captain Morgan, perhaps...;)

I know how you feel, we have been disapointed at times throughout our many visits to WDW over the last 15 or so years. We have also fallen into car 4. But somehow, even with Ei$ner at the helm, we manage to jump back into car 3, then car 2 again.. There's just something about WDW.........:D

Hey, I resemble that comment on occasion! Maybe I can be a pirate too? :p Maybe in Parrot Bay?

Ok, ok, I'm done off topic...

Sorry ArcticWildMan that you will be missing Blizzard Beach this trip. We also enjoyed it and loved the funny jokes that maybe are funnier to someone who lives in Alaska...like the cans of instant snow...just add water. And the snowcat that served snow cones. :)

I hope you will enjoy whatever you decide to do instead...and not let this put too much of a damper on your vacation. Its too far to go and too warm to not enjoy! Think about how wonderful it will be to have all that daylight, not have to put on jackets and boots to go outside, and not have to start the truck a half hour before you leave for work. ;)

Please explain to me just why it is you guys want to live in Alaska.

LOL!!! I love to hunt and fish. No other place on earth can match Alaska for that.

I also just like the outdoors and Alaska has more of that than anybody else ;)

It's definitely not for everybody up here, that's for sure (and that's a good thing...it's too crowded already, IMO :D )

Wow!! A fellow Alaskan!! Hi Snow Bright!! We're a rarity on this site, that's for sure!! You are only the 4th fellow Alaskan I've seen here.

You from Anchorage? I live in Wasilla and work in Whittier (slope schedule...week on/week off)

Well, considering only seven people in the whole state have even heard of the internet, I'd say four makes for a high percentage :-)

Question:What would happen if they divided Alaska in half ?

Answer: Texas would become the THIRD largest state in the Union.

*deep breath*

Ok.....

now I'm sorry that I made that huge fuss, but I mean, come on!

If you want to be guaranteed to visit a water park, go durring the summer when they will be open. Research shows they close with no warning, or little, durring the winter months.

Trust me, I've considered it, but I say this with all seriousness...I couldn't take the heat!

I was out on my boat the other day and it hit 80. I had to go inside the cabin because I was very uncomfortable!

Visiting Florida in the summer would be more than I could take.

Research ?? Did I miss a published study somewhere?

LOL, I agree Europa. It's been pretty much ironclad that BB and TL close at a certain time of the year for maintenance. I've never heard of unexpected closures just because it's winter. Regular scheduled maintenance yes, unscheduled just due to the season, no.

I'm just curious to see if WDW will even send me something in the mail since they have deviated from established historical refurbishment schedules. I'm not going to hold my breath by any means.
