I just have to vent...

I don't know where you are staying, but I know when I took my scooter the last time I just drove it and parked it in the room. You may have to move a table or chair, but seeing as how you are going solo you shouldn't have any problem with having room for it.

I would bring a extension cord with you in case that there isn't a plug nearby.

The problem with kids of today, parents aren't allowed to discipline immediately. Trust me I know by experience. I don't "beat" my kids but I do believe a firm swat on the behind gets attention immediately.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

Both my partner and I ride scooters in the parks. She is extremely disabled, whereas people who would look at me would think I have no problem, (until I've walked my second mile in the park). We were there in September to late October during F&W, as we were traveling through China to Norway this guy and his girlfriend (probably 20's) were in a huge hurry and HAD to get past us. So quickly that he jumped in front of my scooter and I ran over his foot. The look that he gave me was like I should have seem him with my hindsight and avoided the foot he planted right in front of my front wheel.

I couldn't believe this, but it's certainly not the first time that someone has jumped in front of me with no time to stop. People of all ages and not just kids, although the majority who do play "chicken" are kids.

In our community, parents who were not watching their 6 year old who was literally (according to the descriptions) bouncing off of people in a local mall, knocked over an elderly lady and broke her hip. The spouse of the elderly woman had the great presence of mind to insist that the police be called at the same time as the ambulance and the family of the six year old is now being sued for the cost of the medical care for their failure to control their child. Fortunately, the elderly woman survived her fall, but the medical costs are going to be significant.

There was obviously no arrest of the child, but the police officer made sure that the information about who the child and the parents were was given to the spouse of the injured person. Unfortunately, when people aren't courteous to each other (and I include the rude and sometimes dangerous ECV and wheelchair users who injure other people) and use common sense about their behaviors, lawsuits like the one above are going to become more common.

I hurt my knee 2 days before our TG trip and finally decided to rent a scooter. The biggest problems were that people didn't realize that they don't have brakes and I was terrified that I would hurt a child. Once a one year old stepped right out in front of me from behind something. I almost had a heart attack. Dad said "I thought he was way over there!' Transportation was tricky but manageable. Too stressful for me though. I think if I ever need a scooter again I'll rent one in the parks. Mine wasn't insured and the owner said I would have to pay for one if it was stolen, damaged or got wet. Naturally it rained at least 2 days and I worried the whole time.

Pats - I agree--my first experience today was pretty stressful -- navigating the BC lobby with a gazillion people milling around the carousel! Once I got through the building, I didn't have any trouble getting over to the IG for my new TiW card. My ankle is doing well enough that I can park the scooter with the valet to charge overniight, and walk to the room or around BC. I have a feeling that I could probably have gotten by with renting day-to-day in the parks, but I wasn't sure, and it was cheaper to rent from the off-site vendor at $30 a day since Disney has gone up to $50. I did pay for insurance--I figured if anyone was going to damage the equipment, it would be me :rotfl:

Oh yeah....I understand that! I do let them know that they're in trouble & we'll discuss it later, after having them apologize for what they've done. I'm afraid to swat my kid in public because there are 'those' that think we shouldn't discipline our kids at all anymore but they have consequences to pay when we're alone.

I got told off on a train once for getting cranky with my son for not sitting down, I picked him up and dumped him on the seat (not hard enough to do any damage but hard enough for him to know I meant business) this man went on and on for ages about the way I was treating him.

2 hours later, while waiting for a ferry, another man turned to me and said, you have the best behaved little boys I have seen in a long time. Which obvioulsy made my day.

You can't win basically there will always be someone who thinks you are doing things wrong, whether you discipline them or not. I am always amazed at the threads you sometimes see on dis boards where someone is complaining about a small child who was told off at at Disney for doing something wrong...... then someone complaining that nobody did anything when this little kid did something wrong???
