I just have to ask why everyone argues about their "home"

I don't think I've ever really seen any real "bashing" exactly about any of the resorts. I've seen many posts where people express their opinions about what is positive of negative about a particular resort - and some strongly so, but I've never seen anything bashing exactly.

Some people are more sensitive to opinions than others, but as long as the posts are within the board guidelines, this is a forum where registered members can freely express their opinions. If people don't like the way a thread starts to go they don't have to read it. To tell people that we should all just get along and laugh it off is like saying that your opinions don't matter. If you only ever hear the positive sides to things you don't get the whole picture about DVC and all that goes along with it.

All the DVC resorts have pros & cons regardless of which resort it is - if people aren't supposed to discuss those openly whats the point of the forum. Some people do get more heated about things than others, but again no one is forced to read anything here - its completely voluntary!

I appears to me that if a resort has some very specific advantage or exceptional asset (large units at OKW or proximity to Epcot for BC) then some of the insecure people that own elsewhere have this need to bash that resort - sort of in retaliation. "Oh it's not really that good."

I'm a new owner at SSR which of course has extra years in the contract. I am certain that when it opens there will be a certain subset of people who do not own there who will feel compelled to bash it to pieces. Who cares. Let them rant.

Okay, I'll take a guess at way people argue about their home resort. When you buy into DVC you invest a lot of money. If a resort is bashed, people may feel that their decision has been attacked. It is comparable to when you buy a car and someone always says, "You could have gotten that car for much less if you had ______." (fill in the blank) It makes you feel stupid. When a home resort is bashed people get defensive and want to defend their reason for buying that particular resort. This is just my 2 cents and I could be totally off base.
Personally, I don't think that anyone who bought DVC has much to worry about. So far I have stayed at HH, OKW, VB, and BWV. These are all wonderful resorts with their own special "personalities." I feel very fortunate to be able to afford DVC and be able to stay at all of these resorts and also for the vacation trading possibilities. We all have a win/win situation no matter what home resort we bought into.

I view this so-called bashing as good humored ribbing. No different than you'd do with sports teams or that you might do with your best friends on just about anything. There are so many more important things going on in the world, that to get emotional that someone said their DVC home is better than mine is a big waste of time and energy. And, bottom line, Disney and each of the DVC resorts are awesome.

Besides, you could look at it that if my preferred resort is viewed as inferior, it should be much easier for me to get reservations since some people will use this to make their decisions.

We own at OKW and BWV, and have also stayed at HH and they are all great.

If we really want to bash, just think what we could do by comparing DISNEY to universal studios!!! No contest. Hard Rock Hotel was nice, but I'd rather stay at All Stars, not to mention the parks.

I can help you out there:

Nice pool ya got there. Might think about adding some WATER one of these days.

And the rooms...can you say "breezy"???

Don't even get me started on paint. Hard for the walls to start peeling when you don't even HAVE paint.

And what's with the the design of the buildings? That scaffolding look is sooooo 20th century.

Feel better now?

Sticks and stones will break my bones but words can (will) never hurt me.

While I don't consciously think of this often repeated phrase I do tend to apply it in my daily life. I doubt is there's anyone out there who isn't offended (mildly or otherwise) by other peoples comments we wouldn't be human if it didn't happen sometimes.

I say so what if someone thinks their "home away from home" is better than mine. It's their opinion and we all know what they say about opinions.

My wife and I have only owned DVC property for a short time, so perhaps we have not yet formed the strong bond that some ownners have with their "home". We have stayed at one other DVC resort in addition to our own (which shall remain nameless :D), and will stay at another besides our own in June. I think we'll enjoy them all equally for the variety they offer, and probably will not be able to even rank them from 1-7 if we're ever fortunate enough to stay at all of them. That said, I have a confession to make - I always read the flame-bash debates; they're like Jerry Springer or something! I know I shouldn't be enticed and tiitilated by such outrageous debate, but I can't help myself - I just have to read!! As to whether I'll ever join the fray - who knows? Perhaps the passion will well up in me as it has in others, and I'll feel such a loyalty to my home that I must defend it from the attacks of others, and if need be, cast aspersions toward them and their "second-class resorts". If you see signs of this, please "PM" me so that I can get into counseling. No offense intended toward anyone.

Too funny, SamS! Now I have to confess.............When I come on this board, I check to see if anything is new on this thread especially! I'll even admit I look for a certain poster's name because he is so argumentative! I really get a kick out of how defensive he is (or hey, "he" may be a "she" for all I know). At any rate, I don't get into the "My resort is better than yours" thing. Gosh, I own points at 4 of them so I must just like DVC. I do, of course, have a favorite, but I won't name it so as not to start anything else.
